Question for those that have installed them…

Dan recommends some washers to keep the guards from rubbing on the fender and 30mm longer bolts… Where did you get the longer bolts?

I know there are different types of bolts like fine pitch, metric, etc… Can someone tell me what kind of bolts are these and where did you get them?

Also for those that CF vinyl wrap them, Did you wrap the "backsides", leave them natural, or paint? I noticed on a test fit you can see the "natural" backside of the guards that rise above the fender?

Finished wrapping them!

I don't have mine yet, but I imagine it will scratch the fender paint if used without spacers, like I said, I'm only guessing...

Your paint will rub off if you don't add the washers.

I went to Home Depot and got M06x1.0 30mm bolts and rustoleum coated washers.
I may look online later for bolts similar to yamaha's, maybe a place specializing in autos, but there was nothing around here that matched.

If you have an ACE hardware store nearby, I find they usually have a better selection of fasteners than Home Depot or Lowe's. Otherwise, there's always McMaster-Carr.

Thanks the bolt size info was what I needed!

I did find this website, but haven't had the time to look through it yet... http://www.boltmotorcyclehardware.com/

Sorry guys, this is the first I've heard of anybody having trouble finding hardware. I guess I need to order them in bulk and start including them. And as far as spacing them off the fender, I don't have any personal experience with running them without I just know that the set I looked at before making these had spacers behind them. I know that freak said he runs his without the spacers but since I didn't want to be responsible for somebody messing up their fender, I "recommend" the spacers. But who's really going to be taking these off anyway to see any rub marks behind them? ::003::

I think your recommendation is valid.

The only one that would take them off to see on the back, or care for rubbing scratches would be the one that install in one bike and decide to trade it for a newer and carry over the farkles, or sell the bike in "good condition"...or someone like me that even if nobody sees it, but I know there is a scratch it bothers me intensively. :-[

Where are you guys buying your CF Vinyl and how do you install it? Does it stretch or something? Someone needs to make a tuturial for installing the CF Vinyl on these fork guards.

Money sent via PayPal for a set. Now I just need to wait in line for a set to be made for me.
I posted a link earlier in this thread of where I got my carbon wrap and there are tutorial videos on YouTube for vinyl wrapping in general. The stuff I posted the link to stuck well and was fairly easy to get bubbles out of but still took a lot of patience to get it just right for this fellow first timer.

Finished Wrapping them in CF Vinyl!

Pleased with the results but have a couple questions. So this is backside. This is my first vinyl wrap also… Do I need to trip it closer to the edges?

And lastly, the envelope is like a demarcation. When mounted (I test mounted them), you could sees that much above the envelope. Now its not like glaring but at angles its easy to see it like that…. Was wondering if you guys who wrapped them put the wrap on the back or painted it or just ignored the natural finish? I'm seriously considering pulling the wrap off, painting both sides black then, re-wrapping them….

Looks great!!! ::012:: I just used some scrap pieces to cover that top of the back. I don't think anybody is going to get close enough to see that it's overlapping pieces on the inside.

I trimmed it close to the edge then sealed the edges. I then added vinyl primer and cut fitted and edge sealed another piece on the backside.

Perfect. We have the same bike. Are you keeping yours white or black? Painting or wrapping with vinyl?
I am not 100% convinced I will leave it this color, it is plastidip, so as we all know it is reversible, here's just a sneak peek, still waiting on the YAMAHA white stickers to make it blend a little more.
I also would like to ask those who already installed one of these if you also have the Altrider bars, mine at full lock on right side I only have 1/8" clearance between the fork protectors and the bar.

Nice work ::008:: I hadn't thought about that but that would probably look good on my black bike with red accents also. No Altrider bars here but my SW Motechs clear fine.

Thank you.

The OEM red decal of the '13 always make me feel that somewhere is missing, I planned on the red fork protectors to try to complement that, right now I am facing a few issues.
One is to get used to the new addition of the protectors, then I added the issue which is due to my choice of color, it now stick out like a sore thumb, I know a lot of times it's just a matter of "let it grow on you"...perhaps the white stickers will help...oh well...

Opinions welcomed.
