Are they covered by the warranty/YES warranty if the owner installs them?
I think I found the answer to this question, it seems OEM accessories are not covered by YES.

Brntrt,

I have extra 3 and 4 position female connectors coming. You could make it so they would snap into the factory heated grip or light plug. Pm me for the klr price. :)

Hopefully I will find out this weekend, as I have both the OEM heated grips to install and a Vista-Cruise. In just looking at it, I might have to slightly move the heated grip over a slight amount on the throttle tube which might b a little bit of a pain, depending how well Yamaha glued the grip onto the throttle tube, but a bit of compressed air will usually take care of that.
The OEM heated grips will not work with the 'normal' Vista-Cruise..... :(

For $35 the Symtec grip warmers work well. I have a lot of miles on bikes with these grip warmers with no problems.
If the hi/lo switch doesnt provide the temperature control that you are looking for , try the Heatroller grip controller from Warm-n-Safe. It provides precise temperature control for about 70 bucks.

Yeah, I'll have to admit the price gave me pause at first, but after examining what you get, I laid out the $$. The darn things come mounted to their own throttle tube, which is the biggest plus in my book ...and they fit the bars like a glove (no gaps). The fact that they are infinitely controllable, but roasty-hot when need be just seals the deal. Oh, and my dealer in installing them 'on the house,' which is the least he could do after I shelled-out big bucks for this bike ;)
Never paid much more than 10K$ for any bike.

OK call me cheap, but I just can't justify the Yamaha price. Here's the KLR approach.

Installed my Yamaha heated grips today and finished off narrowing and raising my bars. The grip kit is first class and well worth the expense IMO. Well designed and executed. Everything that you need including the zip-ties. Absolutely plug and play. I flipped the controller bracket over to lower the controller on the bars. this may contact the tank if your bars are as stock, I have raised my bars with 2" Rox pivot risers. ::014::

Hey Troll, after your 2" raise, does all the cables and stuff reach okay lock to lock? I may raise my bars also.

I took all the cables and hydraulic lines out of the stock retainers so they could float more freely and I narrowed the handle bars by 3/4" on each side to facilitate moving the clutch and brake perches in board. The hydraulic lines are right at there safe limit at full lock both left and right. I have the risers pulled back just a bit and the bars rolled back as well.

My goal was to raise and bring the bars back. This bike has a long cockpit for me. I like what I was able to achieve and the riding position while standing has been improved for me as well. ::012::

Killer deal !

Ive got the factory heated grips on my FJR and LOVE the heat and control.. What I dont like is the factory grip it self... If im on the bike for 8-10 hours it has no 'grip'... I have a feeling that the element is molded into the rubber grip and there is no way I could get it out.. On the ST I have dirt bike style grips that I really like but need to retro fit a heating system to work under the dirt bike grips that has the same heat and quality of the factory set up...... Is there such a unit? Maybe on that is mentioned above?

I have used this kind before with much success. You can use any grips you want over them. They only have a low and high option, but for me I only ever used low except if I was riding in temps <30F

Unlike the the POS Yamaha top box, the Yamaha heated grip kit is really good, hate it or like it with location of the controller. I like it, very convenient to use and with vibration isolation for the electronics. Plug and play with an existing wiring harness plug. The new throttle side cable housing and new throttle tube/grip is one of cleaner installations I have seen of the wiring into the grip, blows away any of the less expensive do it yourself kits. The kit works fine with my Kaoko cruise control once I added a couple of washers to space it out slightly.

Since the OEM Heated grips will not work with the Vista Cruise, I have decided to part with the OEM Heated Grip Kit for $285 shipped :( :( :(
