Yamaha OEM Heated Grips

Some of you had inquired about the Yamaha heated grips, specifically the control unit. I had them installed yesterday. Yes, they are pricey but my dealer gave me a nice discount, probably because of the incredible human being I am ... or perhaps not. Anyway, they are super warm. Very nice. Here are a couple pics of the control unit in the more or less recommended placement. Hope I'm not duplicating, but I don't remember seeing anything like this posted. Here you go .... R

Thanks for posting pic rem. I will be installing those in a few more months when it hits me that it's actually cold outside. Still 90 here today. Hard to think of grip heaters in this oven. I don't like the Yamaha controller location but I know they are of good quality. Wasp has a relocation bracket or I may do something similar.

Looks good Rem, gotta like the variable temp control and fit and finish. I cheaped out and put on the oxford grips-they are like me cheap, not too pretty but get the job done

These boys really put out the heat. I priced out the Wasp bracket. Was gonna be about 70 bucks landed here, and that's an estimate. There are probably options for locating this one, but this will work out fine for me. Really easy to fool with while riding if necessary. Anyway, nice unit. R

Yikes $70 bucks well that order is cancelled. I will go with the mirror stalk mount. I am cheap.

I bet you could find one of those inspection sticker plaques they used to use on cruisers that had no where else to mount them. IIRC, they had an extended arm with a hole for a bolt and enough room you could mount the controller. I've not seen one in a long time though. Machine shop could do a small one easy I betcha too. You could mount it in same spot as Greg's.

Wasp Mount does mount the controler in a perfect place. I wish someone in the States would produce it so we would not have the crazy shipping cost. THey shipping makes it unreasonable to purchace it.

Not only is Yamaha's intended location convenient for making regular adjustments which I have found is invaluable in practice, but the OEM bracket comes complete with vibration damping grommets. I bought the Wasp bracket thinking I would use it, but as soon as I had installed the grips I quickly realized I would not use it. Anyone want it I can let it go for 10 US plus shipping, since it is just lying unused in my garage. I am in Sweden. PM me if you are interested.

Yes, it does. Thanks for that. It's a very nice set up, and I personally don't have a problem with the location. I don't think it's gonna bother me at all.


Something else I forgot to mention ..... One of the SW Motech crash bars had to come off for completing the wiring. Not sure which one, but if you do this yourself, you'll save yourself some labor time at the shop. Rick (mechanic) had never done one so he didn't realize this was necessary. Anyway, just a head's up. Take it off yourself and save some bucks. I don't know about the other brands. Maybe that was because one of the panels had to come off. I'll have to ask him. R

Rem, you would likely need to pull one bar to access elctrical on right side of bike would be my guess. To install the oxford set up, I needed access this way.

One benefit of the OEM crash bars is access. I am not too excited about the look and lack of upper cosmetic protection. But, they cetainly do protect the engine but in my opinion are a little fugly

i just installed my OEM heater control last night using WASP bracket. What a grat location to keep the extra junk off of the handlebars. Now, If i can just have a few more hours in a day to finish installing the grips themselves, I would be all set.

BTW, I like the look of the controller location with Wasp´s controller mount and great that he has provided that product and gives people a choice according to own preference. My only customer feedback to him is the absence of vibration damping grommets. If that really is an issue or not for the longevity of the controller I really don´t know for sure...

Thanks RMAC. I am getting closer with the farkle installs. The bike should be together by Friday from the painter and all. I know the WASP decals are going to be easy, but still I can screw something up for sure!!!

RMac, what was your primary concern regarding using the Wasp bracket? Just curious. R

Another cheap guy here, installed my Oxford grips last night and will wire this morning. If I knew they were going to be 3/4" shorter grips I would have gone OEM. If they give me the slightest hicup I'm going OEM.

I am assumeing the OEM heated grips comes with a throttle tube as the Oxfords are super glued to the tube and thus will never come off.

Got the OEM's. They are hot and a great fit. We need them in Canada. I'm happy with them regardless of the cost.

Yes OEM come on throttle tube. I instaled a couple shims I bought from a mountain bike shop and it looks better, covers up the white. The shims are black and used to raise lower gooseneck.
