You have to push the spring tab at the bottom of the case fully closed, and hold it firmly fully closed to remove the key, whether mounting the top box, or demounting it.

Generally the key and lock thing is a pain, but workable.

It was pushed in. Forgot to put that in first post. Trying not to remember. I think my blood pressure is going up again.
Oh, well, that is bad then. Sounds like they will straighten things out for you. At least they admit there is a problem and they are working on it. You have no idea how refreshing that is.

ive now built three sets of bags for customers and not had a problems myself, also taken the time to show the customers how the latch and mounting systems work and everybody so far seems happy enough and nobody has broken anything yet

I know I'd be distressed if they hadn't worked out the bugs after 2 years.

I had extra keys made especially for the luggage since the original keys are long and will flex and eventually break.

So I went to a key shop and had new shorter keys made. These do not flex and will not snap.

If you are having to work the keys anywhere near that hard something is wrong. See your dealer.

I agree! I lubed mine with chain lube when installed and they have worked perfect so far. I am happy with them. They hold a lot more than you think they would.
We have the liners too and they work great. About the same as our FJR. ::008::

Blue, an observation - I just have the side cases and like you noticed that I was having to force the key/locks(s) open and that the long skinny key was bending, I put some graphite in the keyhole and it helped. somewhat. ::002::

But, as someone mentioned somewhere previously, if you push down on the top of the case it will take pressure off the lock j-hook and they will open/unlock Much Easier. Also since there is a Very Good double-pleated wx strip in the cover, and it is a real-nice-Tight-fit, pushing down first on the cover, relieving pressure on the wx strip and lock-hook did the trick for me and there is no longer any resistance on either of mine, and/or bent keys... ::012::

As you, I did get a new key made, just couldn’t imagine that pre-bent thing snapped off and stuck way down in the ignition on some outtatheway trail somewhere!

Thnx, d ::008::

Just a data point. Rode 558 miles through regular rain and part of hurricane Lee with all three cases fixed.

No leaks, No drips, no nothing... Wish my new helmet was as water tight.

I installed the side panniers yesterday. NO problems with the locks at all. I had to make a sears run for the tamper proof 97mm torx bolt, T handle torx #45.The dealership made me another key and I haven't had any problems with the locks. It is just frustrating because, the panniers are a lot of money. If they were having problems in Europe, they quickly could have made some changes before the bike and accessories got here. But, it’s too late to wine now. I have them. I'm keeping them. And hope to get a lot of miles out of them.

Yeah, I know that one should push down on the top of the cases, my dealer instructed me to do so, and I do that. But still, the long key is vulnerable to twisting. Many others have the same experience here in The Netherlands, so I did not want to take any risc and had a shorter key made. Just like you indicate, I do not want to end up stranded somewhere with a snapped key.... :'(

I'll spray some silicone spray in the lock and see if it helps a bit. But I hardly ever ride with the panniers, so it's not a big thing for me.

I agree. I’ve been using the side cases for a week now and agree with the comments that the locking mechanism has a flimsy feel to it. But there is absolutely no way that my key is going to break or bend. It simply doesn’t turn that hard…either direction. There must be something with the installs or a bad batch at the factory.

I had originally thought to go OEM....and while making up my mind over six months, kept hearing so much "noise" around fit, finish, "fiddly" locks, etc...I finally decided to go after-market, Pelican Storms and Hepco-Becker racks.

Took me three hours to get the whole thing assembled and it works like a champ....we've had heavy rains for the last few weeks and sealed cases have built up moisture starting to rust the pliers I keep inside. They are also cheaper than the OEM setup.
