Great Phil, watching for pictures.

I got my new Arai XD3 in yesterday. Very snug (tight fit) for a large which is what I normally wear. Checked out the smaller cheek pads, $54, YIKES! Standard is 20mm and you can purchase 15mm or 12mm. Course you guys know I am a DIY kind of guy, so out comes the cheek pads and covers off, electric filet knife, presto about 5mm off both sides. Good to go. Now I have $54 to spend on something else, LOL.

Pics coming. They were so easy to install and, wow, do they ever look fantastic. I am very, very impressed. The back end looks so finished now. Took lees than an hour total time to open, unpack, inspect, and then install the racks and both cases.

I still need to install the lock sets on the latches and slid the inner liners in but I'll do that tomorrow.

So glad I went this route!!
So if one wanted to remove the racks temporarily for whatever reason, how much time and effort would that entail?

I did (drum roll): absolutely nothing to my Super Tenere today...... same as yesterday and for the last two-plus months! I would have been just as well off to ship it south (like Rem) for the winter. Started our next remodeling project Monday of this week and don't have much time for forum-fun......

:(

Not hard but relatively involved. Both grab rails and the right passenger peg mounts will have to come off.

Sorry, my "model" wouldn't get out of the pictures I took last night. ::013::

I'll get more out in the open today.

Ok, ya got me. Why would you want to remove the racks temporarily?

I take my racks off anytime I remove the panniers, just cleans up the look. Course, I have the Sw-Motech quick remove tabs, so we were curious if his will come off easy also.

Nice panniers, AND model!

Ah, ok. I just leave the bags on all the time. Even day rides can result in flats... ;)

The model is doing a great job! She might be more secure in tbe right side case with the lid removed.

Thanks for the info and pics.

Yeah, I had envisioned removing the side cases when not on long trips, but once I actually have them installed I might decide to leave them in place. The Touratechs are the cleanest looking racks, IMO. Further, the side case size combo he is using, should make lane splitting a non issue.

Regarding the tank-bag question from earlier: Another big + from me to the BagsConnection (SWMotech) bags that TwistedThrottle sells. I had a magnetic bag on for a little bit and no matter how clean the pads are, it still scratched the clear coat a bit (nothing a little polishing can't fix, but still) so I wanted a bag that didn't touch the tank much, and the City bag is it. It's perfect, the locking ring is SOLID, and I couldn't be happier with it. I plan on running my own power to it simply because I couldn't justify the added cost of an already expensive bag. I'll run my own wires ::008::

The City is the perfect size for me, it can hold my DSLR no problems, a pair of gloves, my garage door opener is in a side pocket, there's even some stretch straps for documents (I assume that's what the stretchy straps in side are for, I have my registration folded up and tucked under them) My only gripe is the rain cover, and the fact that the plastic cinch things rub on the tank, minor gripe, IMHO.

Today got my Caribou Panniers Installed. Roger at Caribou was very helpful all the way and if I knew how to post pictures from my Droid I would do so! Just take my word for it, the Pelican Storm 36 L bags look good and are of very high quality. Thus far I have installed Altrider crash bars, skid plate, rear rack, side stand thingy, and a motocentric tail bag-cutting that puppy dog's tail off a little at the time!

Now what's next? maybe a bags connection tank bag, either the "city" or the "GS", a larger tail bag from wolfman, bags connection, or twisted throttle stackable.Give me some help here. also thinking about a larger windshield to handle the mastad mount for GPS. Now do I get a garmin 550,650, or one of their cheapos that seems to work in my car just fine? any advice would be appreciated. ::021:: ::022::
Sounds nice Riversong.

And although the advice you have gotten on bags from others is all good, don't leave out consideration for the Aerostich MotoFizz tail bag.
Although not considered waterproof without the rain cover, the bag was designed for exactly the purpose an adventurer needs it by folks who are adventurists. And it shows when you get your hands on one.

With the 4 quick connect straps and the Altrider tail rack you have, it mounts and dismounts in seconds. And it is fastened so sturdy that the wife uses it confidently as her back rest. Amazing bag, really.

Note: I don't really use the rain cover. Instead, I have a waterproof bag I put the really important must-stay-dry stuff in. Then stuff that bag into the MotoFizz. So far, very pleased.

As far tank bags that mount on the gas cap ring, I like the looks of the bags connection city bag much more than the Coretech ring mount bag. But I ride in crappy weather often and the Coretech is waterproof without the rain cover. Looks a little silly with the downward slope of the tank, but functionally superb!

And finally, there are lots of windscreens available. And wind management can be very "personal". But for a 6'1" 34" inseem rider with seat in high position, the cali-Scientific "Large" is spectacular!

Best of luck with your finishing touches!

Oh, and since this is the "What did I do today" thread..........

I went to work late, and left early, so I could take the longest routes possible on this gorgeous Spring day in coastal Texas.
Browsing my "Ride Texas" volume 1 now so I can plan an entire weekend of S10 adventure riding while this Gift from God (weather) lasts.

Need to end up around Baffin Bay some time so I can drop a pole in the water with my son. Might surprise him!

Removed F.O. (rag) left behind from the recall. I had the recall done just before the end of the year and since its winter here I trailered the bike back and forth from the dealer. A friend and his son stopped over last weekend to admire the beast and offer some ideas on my passenger backrest set up. I was telling them about the air screw adjustments and what needed to be done so my friends boy is ready to start dissassembly and he is looking over the situation with the light on his phone (he was looking for the thorrtle bodies with all the covers in place) and proclaims there is rag under the tank! I had to tell them I had not even been in there yet so it had to be my dealer. Maybe the mechanic was thinking about hanging a banner or some holiday lights, this was my first time in this shop I suppose I should give them 1 more try maybe.
Which dealer? If you have any more problems, take it over to Moon, ask for Earl. Top notch ::008::

Hey Coastie,

Could you show where you tied the supply wires to your fuzeblock from? Esp the switched wire.
I don't see any extra wires from the battery for the un-switched power. Did I miss that?
