Sorry I did not respond earlier. Excess lateral run-out is side to side movement of the rim. It is corrected by pulling the rim back into alignment by loosening spokes on one side and tightening on the other. Since the spokens are cross laced you have to recognize the direction of pull and adjust accordingly. I worked the two pairs on either side of the "out" spot. You need a wheel stand and a measurement tool, although you could do a quick check on the centerstand with the front wheel elevated and a screwdriver or punch held against the forks.

I made slow incremental changes. Just tweeking it a little bit at a time. I rechecked all spoke torques in the end.

Today's long ride was SO much smoother. No shakes. At speed, if you lay your hand on the handlebars with fingers extended, they were very steady. Before they would shake a lot. The other thing I noticed today was less vibration in the mirrors. Much clearer rear view.

Many Thanks Mr H……very helpful. I will be adding this job to my winter service list.

Installed the winglets. Second thing I did was replace the plastic M5 fastener. Noticed the instructions said to torque to 4.4 in lbs so thought I'd try it, didn't even know if the torque wrench would register that, but it did. Couldn't get the plastic screw to hold the phillips head. Tried the JIS driver and regular driver, couldn't figure out what type was supposed to use. Anyway, never did make it to 4.4 in lbs., after that switched them out for metal and used common sense. Appears they do smooth the air out, never noticed there was so much air coming up from below til they were installed. So it's official, I now have a STOL motorcycle.

Cruising down the highway at about 85 indicated, thought it would be nice if there was a convex mirror in the center to look out for the blind spots. Did some searching and found there was one made by Riderscan. 180 degree view. Looks like it might attach to the crossbar behind the windscreen. Anybody every try one and like it? I see reviews all over the board and looks like china is the only ones making them now.

Installed an Outback Motortek rack so I can add Mosko Moto Backcountry 35L pannier set of two. I'm going to order the Panniers on Monday. Only a few more things to get my bike where I want it...for now :)

Left side

Right side

The rear

Mosko Moto suggested going with the 25L left pannier and the 35L right pannier to make it even visually but the left side rack is only 1" wider and I'd rather have more luggage space so going to get two 35L panniers.

I’ve had my Mosko Backcountry panniers for a while now. I’m well impressed. I went for the offset option (25l on the left 35l on the right)

Glad to hear that you are happy with the Backcountry panniers. Do you lock them to your bike and if so, do you use a padlock or the cable locks that Mosko sells? Thanks.

Winglets… are you referring to the clear plastic bits near the screen or are they somewhere else?
If somewhere else, any chance of a pic?

What sort of revs is the bike doing at 85? I assume that’s mph which works out to be about 140kph for me & that’s up around 5,000

I’m wondering if we get different gearing here in Australia….

That would be the two clear plastic pieces either side of the cowling below the windshield.

My bike at 84 mph indicated, would be about 75 actual taking into account the 10% error in the speedo I'm guessing, pretty close. All the gadgets and readouts on this bike and I have to rely on a bar graph to read rpm. The rpm at this mph looks like about 4500. I've noticed the bike is pretty smooth up to 70 mph, which is about 4000 rpm, above that it starts to vibrate. After I got back I checked the front tire for balance and it didn't change any, just moved the weights a little, same amount. Yami must have tuned the vibration for below the 4000 mark. I think a bmw with the inline 6 would be a cruising machine.

Right. I have those & they’re great.
As for the speedo error, I can thoroughly recommend Speedo healer although you do need to cut into the ABS harness but the instructions are very clear and’s precise.
It’s needed here where governments rely on the revenue from GREED cameras with them, in some states, set to tag you if you go 1 kph over the limit.

I just got some of the cheap ali xpress winglets. They are thinner than the Yamaha ones. The windshield brace for the Madstad puts a lump in the middle of the winglets. I guess I gotta get some rubber washers and try to shim it. I've had 2 oem winglets crack on the middle mounting holes

Wow that’s the first time I ever heard of anyone having cracked the OEM winglets ! Mine have 110,000 miles and absolutely no issues.

Re the riderscan mirrors, I mailed the guy selling them on ebay, and asked what the difference was between what he was selling and what amazon had listed. Here is his reply. I ordered a couple. I figure I'd rather look down at that then have to turn my head when I'm really moving down the highway. I'll report back when they get situated. Has to be cheaper than radar.

HI Mark, this is Mike. Yep, this is the orignal product, I purchased manufacuring rights from the inventor, Stephen Hunter who lives in Scotland. Fortunately, the cheap knock off's are not made to the same quality. I've purchased them myself and they are slightly smaller as well.

I took a trip this weekend to the tail. The Mitas E07s I got on didn't do to well. Saved her a few times from the front tucking under me. Guy on a CBR600 I think was fairly impressed. More so when he saw the knobbly tires.
Maybe more of a "where you took your Tenere"?

I'll have to look at my receipts and dates but this is the 3rd air filter change in 48,000 miles. So, it'll average about every 16,000.
Anyone gone to a reusable filter like K&N?
I went to replace mine & discovered that a previous owner had put Yamaha race pods inside the airbox so I left it like that.
