It's quieter now...no engine vibes reverberating up into my helmet:)
Haven't been on dirt since the change, but I assume that'll be quieter as well.

New rear e07 Dakar. 14,404 miles on it and the front. Front good for another 5k. Bike seems 1" taller now!

Took a test ride with the Jesse bags installed finally. Had some trouble with a few things but a shout out to Hogmolly. I PMed him a question on his installation and his advice fixed my issue.

I think it's ready for a trip now!

Well, nothing fell off! :D

You make it this way, I owe you a beer or three! And some good back roads that are not named 'Dragon' :)

Wallkeeper,

Thanks for the offer - i need to update my profile. I moved to Montana in June of last year.

I used to commute on my bicycle from Lake Calhoun to Evil Prairie every day. Good times.

I did the same a while back for my Ravetech skid plate, it does really cut down on reflected engine clatter and noise. I also figure the layer of softer material might add some cushioning should the plate ever be driven into the sump.

It almost seems quieter than the stock set up now...The extra cushion is an added bonus I hadn't considered. ::003::

Finished a floor dolly. While I really like the looks of the Park-N-Ride floor dolly, I couldn't get past the price at $200-250 shipped. I am space limited to a 2 car garage (with two cars) and a 12'x12' backyard shed. The S10 will typically stay in the shed, but getting it out requires a 180* turn in the yard. When the ground is soft, this becomes a problem. Almost got stuck in a January warm streak.
Found a more economical solution in a Harbor freight wheel dolly, stripped down and modified. Ideally, a steel channel would work better, but I had an old pair of roof racks I "re-puposed". I got the dolly with a 20% off the $90 list price and about $30 of misc hardware. It is a bit bigger than the Park-n-ride, but the bigger wheels actually roll well over some sizable concrete joins. It does not have locks on the wheels, but I don't need them in my situation. Its not pretty but it is functional. You could do much better if you have ready access to better materials and a welder.

Changed the rear pads and oil/filter etc. Actually I just watched whilst my 11 year old daughter did it all.
You should be ashamed of yourself! You must get smaller disposable gloves, how do you expect your daughter to cope with substandard equipment? ::008::

Ha-ha...very good. I thought I was extremely generous giving her any gloves. I will of course deduct the cost of the gloves from her wages!!

I had my first good look at the rear pads, this is the easiest caliper I have ever checked. TBH I am surprised that it works so well for just a single piston, not had one of those on a bike in over 30 years. The pads still have plenty of meat on them, but the piston side had a touch more wear so I swapped them round.

Performed the 600 mile maintenance work, including the oil and filter change and the rear end gear oil change. I learned the SuperTech ST 6607 oil filter DOESN'T fit the S10. This filter is listed on the recommended list of oil filters at California Scientific. The threads on the ST oil filter contacted the hex head of the engine mount before the filter gasket could make a seal. If you compare the SuperTech filter to the Yamaha filter, the Yamaha filter has a concave shape to clear the mount hex head. I used a Mobile 1 filter #M1-108, and it fit fine. Here is the link the the California Scientific site; http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/FilterXRef.html

CalSci hasn't updated that page in a while. Nearly all of the non-moto filters no longer work on the Super Tenere due to the change from concave to convex at the threaded mounting plate. The threads will allow the filter to spin on, but it bottoms out on the large nut before the o-ring or gasket seals, thus causing leaks. Sometimes minor, sometimes severe!

The Mahle OC-575 is a high quality option that is known to work and costs less than the Yamaha filter. There is even a thread about it on the forum.

Careful, I let my youngest daughter wrench on stuff with me and I ended up with a competent engineer for a daughter......now she makes more money than I do...very hard on my male ego *L* ???
