Nothing weird about the registration system, you could have had it registered on 65 - plate instead of a 16.......
Sure, but come sale time (if i ever do) there would be much whistling through teeth and could-have, should-have's.

Had a a thought earlier, I nearly bought one in May last year - it would have been registered in Preston., Which I think would have made it a PN15 registration, much to my inner-childs amusement.

Can't ride it on the road legally for another week due to the UK's weird vehicle registration system though.

Thanks, just finished fiddling with screen / raising seat / taking photo's of default suspension settings for future reference. From a short ride around the underground car park where I live the geometry feels absolutely amazing, total confidence handling at a displayed speed of 0/1mph.

It's silver + blue, Yamaha call it Race Blu.

This is a `15 bike, but in the UK trade-in value is partially based on a vehicle's year of first registration - so registering it as a `16 makes it a "newer" bike - with the downside that it's not officially registered until March 1st.

There is more to it, but that's the basics.

Nice silver!
As CW stated, but you can have it registered any time of the year, problem being somewhat archaic, in that there are two official "1st day of registration", those being 1st of March and 1st of September, the plates /tags stay with the vehicle, unlike most of the rest of the world ::010::, so getting a vehicle registered in Feb of 2016 will get it a '65' reg number and getting a bike registered on the 1st of March will get it a '16' reg number and all the way upto 1st of Sept when it will get a '66' reg. Makes a difference on resale, as opposed simply a 2015 or 2016 reg bike. And who says the British bureaucracy have not got their heads up their (please fill in the blank)? This has been the rod-up-the-backside of the motor industry in the UK for decades.

In the UK, Government always insisted they changed the system from an anual registration identifier change on August 1st to the system Dogdaze mentions, to help the industry & to avoid a crazy scrabble for new vehicles over the summer period. Folks used to rock up at their dealer, often to quite a party atmosphere, late on July 31st & take the keys for a drive/ride away just after midnight. It was all a bit crazy.

However, many now insist the new dates, March 1st & September 1st, were a concoction by HM Treasury to max out the flow of VAT (Sales Tax) receipts. Whilst few argue against the March date, given our weather patterns, the September change brings a flood of trade-in bikes into the market shortly before the season traditionally ends around October 31st, so dealers tend towards caution in case they find themselves 'over-wintering' inventory that then has to compete with the trade-in stock the following March.

Frankly, the system is nuts & should have been brought into line with the rest of the world years ago. Still, we drive on the left too. I think the last country to change from left to right was probably Sweden, back in the 1960s - the implications of change now, given traffic volumes, doesn't bear thinking about!

Got few goodies just moment ago...

Last friday i installed the new Magura handlebar.

I'm not thrilled about it. It's about 1 inch narrower than the oem one. Quite odd at first. I found my ex Pro Taper ATV Mid much better option.

And you can get insurance without a MC license? You can't (legally) do that here in Alberta.

2012 w/ 89,000 miles: Dealer did all this - adjusted valves (1 intake was barely closing, 1 exh was barely opening), R&R 2nd Gen CCT, re-sync'd left TB to right side, new air filter & new plugs. Man, does it pull strong now. Changed to 2nd Gen CCT at 52,000 mi, but it wouldn't compress to reset for re-install. New one went in easy peazy. Dealer gave it to me for his cost. Total bill $767. incl 5.7 hrs labor. Other than maybe tires, it's ready for run to Tampa (from Los Angeles) via Overland Expo-Flagstaff in May.

You could probably get insurance but when you file a claim they would deny it since you were unlicensed.

I know that's really not the whole story, as a UK friend once tried to explain your systems of registrations, inspections, taxes, and insurance. Several pints later I still was lost.

Exactly my friends son was involved in an accident and his insurance had him still living at his parents and not at his apartment so they are refusing to pay !!

Took a two day trip to Redding CA to have a seat built by Laam Custom Motorcycle Seats. The seat it a very good improvement... more to come. Was going to be a 3-4 day trip but I returned early while not feeling 100%. If I feel better I will be off to Death Valley to try and see some bloom.
