Changed the fork oil, seals bushings and dust caps on my ES today. My first time working on USD forks, or electronic forks for that matter. At 72K miles the oil and the bushings didn’t really look that bad. I’d always heard these bikes were hard on bushings, but I could not actually see any obvious wear to the coatings. I compressed the springs using a standard USD spring compressor (Motion Pro) and ratchet straps, but I’d get the special Yamaha tool if I ever do this again. The MP tool won’t stay centered and creates binding when disassembling or reassembling, causing a minor PITA. Since I completely disassembled the forks, removed the cartridges and thoroughly pumped them out, I felt comfortable using the manual species volumes to refill. Hopefully I’ll go for a spin tomorrow and Rey it all out.

Wishing my, love to ride, still turn around and give it another glance when I walk away, happy to see when I open up the garage door, first Saddle Sore 1000 IBA#71196, comfortable, what kind of bike is that?, fuel sipping, twisting throttle fun (not fuel sipping), stable, 22196 mile reliable, fun, where will go today?, enjoy to keep clean and polish like the day I got it, a Happy 2nd Anniversary.

Had to take it out while the sun poked a few beams out. Tomorrow will be sunny and warmer and further. Have a great day everyone and stay safe.
Thank you for letting me indulge you and thank you all for this great site and the wealth of good information and pictures and stories and getting me through the times I can't ride.
Not sure where you live, but are you prohibited from riding?
I live in SW Ontario and fortunately there are no restrictions.. We are rather sparsely populated.. went to three motorcycle shops today for pick ups, and a coffee shop, all good, just served at the door. It's a new learning curve...sadly.
We shall overcome, and I am not a religious guy.

Minor things:

-Pulled the ignition coils to inspect them, and the EMI shields had already started to rust. The bike is "new old stock" 2019 model year, purchased in March of 2020 with 2 miles on the odometer, and now with less than 2K miles / 1.5 months after purchase. If I'd left it go another few years / tens of thousands of miles... I can see how this could become a problem.

-Added amber LEDs to the parking light location in the headlight. Instantly felt the extra 25 horsepower.

Yes I did, it was a bitch because of the slimy mud and wrong tires. Since then I tipped it over on the other side, no mud this time just snow and ice. And yes I was alone again...what a dumb arse I can be. Been thinking I should invest in a motojack.

Alexander. If I were you I would leave those shields off especially if you're in the uk. I took mine off about 60,000 miles ago and I've never had a problem. The coil sticks always come out really easy now too

Thanks -- pretty sure it was your old posts that gave me the idea to check them in the first place. And I left the shields off as you advised previously. Went for a long ride 2-up yesterday and noticed no ill effects from their removal.

Been trying to do as much "preventative maintenance" as I can. Already greased the swing arm pivot, axles, cush drive, shaft drive, shifter/rear brake pivots, and did the ignition coils. Torqued spokes and zip-tied them. Think the only thing I haven't done yet are the steering head bearings.

Good idea Alexander. I'm trying to do the same so that my bike will be ready for some big miles again when work starts
