Hi Carrot, I mounted it at the same spot as the stocker. I did have to file a half round notch in the PIAA bracket because there is a nipple on the bike mount that prevents the horn bracket from rotating when tightening the 10 mm nut. The stock horn bracket also has this notch!

Added plastic tie wraps to the rear wheel spokes .... just in case

Anyone ever break a front wheel spoke on the S10 ?

Seems most break rear spokes only?
I checked the tension in the rear wheel spokes this afternoon. I check my spokes more regularly than I should after having one come loose which resulted in a bent spoke some weeks ago. I wasn't impressed about having to spend $120 AUD for an entire spoke kit. The cable ties seem like cheap insurance.

What's the purpose of the ties? Keep several tied together so if one breaks it doesn't fling all over the place?

Not several, just two at the cross over points. Yes, to keep them from "flinging all over" and simply from being lost. With our spoke design, if the nipple unscrews, it will fall off/out and the spoke can then flop loose.

Don't tighten the wire tie against the spokes, just not quite against them. You don't want to place tension on the spokes with the ties, just retain them if one comes loose. As was said, cheap insurance. I did this long ago and during the initial 6k routinely found spokes a little loose, usually not more than a 1/2 turn, more often less. I checked them often at first, now every oil change.

I took my Yoshimura RS4 slip-on off and went back to the stock muffler. It's not that the Yoshi was overly loud, I just prefer stock and quiet. At some point I'll probably decide the stocker is too quiet and go back to the Yoshi.. I guess I'm just OCD or something.

Spooned on a new set of tires, changed the oil, and mounted a pelican case for a tool box. Ready to roll out to Romney.

Changed the coolant. Very, very easy, if you haven't done this on your S10. Probably even easier than an oil change.

New spark plugs, tires and air filter at 24,000 miles. Plugs looked fine, and the filter was cleaner than I expected. The plugs probably could have gone a lot longer before needing replacement.

Hi Steve,
When you say "spooned" are you talking old school DIY with 3 tire irons and no other special tools? How easy/hard was that?
I once changes a front tire on a 650 V-Star that way and breaking the bead and getting the thing off was pretty hard. The rear was impossible and I ended up taking it to a shop.
And how do you balance it?

Put on my new 24" Calsci screen Thursday ::012::, finally got to go for a quick test run this morning....... OH MY GOODNESS! First, what a noisy piece of metal we ride!!! Second, so glad I can do away with earplugs and have the visor open. I guess aftermarket screens are a double-edged sword, however, on my V Strom the Calsci worked fantastically well. May have to ride with the earplugs, if only to block out the clatter of the engine....... hey ho!

So are you saying the harmonic waves that are now dancing in your ears, unimpeded by wind noise, are not pleasantly symphonic?

It'll grow on ya. Hopefully. In a diesel kind of way.

I used to change tires using a milk crate and tire tools until my wife bought me a Cycle Hill tire changer for Christmas about 6 years ago.
I use the tire bar to take tires off but I always reach for my tire irons to mount tires. With a little practice it's not hard at all to mount even real stiff tires.
I balance the tires with a Marc Parnes balancer on a home made stand.

I've driven diesel cars for the last 20 years... and they are getting very quite......however the clatter clatter of this box of loose spanners is not what I'd call 'harmonic'.....but then I am tone deaf :(

Felt the same way on my first ride with the XL Parabellum - first tine I could hear the engine at interstate speed and it doesn't sound all that great, but overall still a huge improvement!

I inherited my Dads bike just over a year ago and the only thing I've added was a Kaoko Throttle Lock, extra brake light to the top box, and a Tech Spec tank grip pad combo set. I finally made up my mind and pulled the trigger on a bunch of stuff that came in while I was out of town.

Today I installed a Madstad windshield bracket and after it cools off I'll install Off The Road bar risers and Lucky Bike mirror risers. I received my Eastern Beaver PC-8 and a China made voltmeter/usb/outlet set, but will wait until my dash fill in panel gets here before I start getting electrical. I guess I decided to move in and move on.

Next splurge will be GPS.
