Ive never been one for the atgatt but im feeling older and wiser and am leaning more towards it. But wasnt willing to sell the left nut just yet for a fancy jacket. We'll see how it goes.
Worth your while to be ATGATT and with good gear. My wife (an experienced rider) totaled a new bike (405 miles on the odo) on Monarch Pass a month ago when she got surprised by gravel in a downhill curve. Her arm is still bruised from when she low-sided but nothing was broken and she is hiking, biking and we rode part of the Alpine Loop on our motorcycles today. You never know when you are going to get surprised and go down.

This bike is the only one I have had difficulty bleeding the clutch on. A stubborn bubble at the slave cylinder just wouldn't come out with vacuum or pressure. I had to use the old trick of tying the lever to the bars and letting it sit that way over night. Was fine after that.

But your symptoms do sound like air in the system more than worn disks. The tiny reservoir doesn't make bleeding any easier.
Hm... Second time was done the right way for sure. Last 7tmls or so, is gradually degrading. I bought the kit already, so we'll see. I hope they gonna hit me with the 30 bucks basket too. :)

Except that you're talking about the clutch. You can't cook the DOT fluid in a clutch ::)

(unless you just mean it might be old and dirty, but cooked, no.)
Interesting point. We'll see soon.

my son and I drove up to Bixby MO. to join some ADV riders on the SMART ride, I rode 140 miles on dirtroads, forest roads, old logging trails and ATV roads. did 11 river crossings. stalled it out in the river, plowed into a pile of sand/P gravel and dug it out myself, took a wrong turn and dropped it in the mud , only to drop it again 20 yards later in another mud hole.lifted it back up both times by myself, when I finally found hiway 106 I bolted to VanBurean to join back up with my son and riders.
Sounds like fun.

I want to find some mud. The bike looks so much better with a bit of mud on it. Sounds like a blast.

hi - does the "tying lever back with cable tie" trick work with a clutch? - i know of it (and have used it) on brake lines - bt assumed it needed something to "push" against, you know for pressure - you don't really get that with a clutch system do you?

also - is there anything that can come to harm by having the clutch lever held in for a number of hours?

@scott - good catch! I just meant dirty or frothed from hard use. Not really enough heat transfer to cook the fluid like with brakes.

@geekay - it worked for me. Soft lever and clearly not getting full disengagement after flush /bleed. I've got more than a little experience doing the task too. I use a commercial vacuum bleeder. In my case, I just left it over night. I do not believe there is any potential for damage or harm doing this.

Relocated clutch and brake lines in anticipation of ROX Risers being ready soon for the 2014. Plain old block risers would do but Yamaha screwed that up when they angled the OEM risers.

Blew a gasket. Not the bike...me. Since I got it it's been in pieces. Wheels off, side cover off, forks off etc., just making it mine. Finally starting to get it all back together. All excited. It's a really easy bike to work on except for...the seat.

What? The seat? Yeah, the seat. Wobbles like a loose tooth. Can't get it to set right. Worst design of any motorcycle I ever had evar. As soon as I think I got it it pops loose and wobbles like it's on marbles. Put a scratch in the tank with the metal tang (small, but I know it's there), put little cuts in my new Seat Concepts cover (thankfully on the underside, but I know they're there) from trying to force it into position. No good. Wobble. Mocking me. Blow gasket.

I give up.

Turns out, previous owner had a Touratech saddle. Just mailed it off to a happy new owner. The PO didn't like it so he put the original seat back on. Guess what he didn't do when he put the OEM seat back on? Swap over those rubber bumpers on the underside of the pan. Had to order all new bumpers because my bumpers are somewhere in the pacific northwest connected to the Touratech saddle I sold. lol.

I just got humbled by a completely low tech issue. Ugh. At least I figured it out though.

Once you get the parts correct, the seat is absolutely simple to put on and take off. Easiest seat of any bike that I have ever had

What did you do to your upper triple? Looks all one piece from forks to bar clamps. ::008::

Just got back from a 5 day, 1300 mile, 2-up trip with the fiance on the S10. NY to Niagara Falls, to Toronto, south into PA to ride around Allegheny National Forest / Sproul State Forest, and then back to NY.

The good: the Tenere handled the trip with no complaints lugging me, my passenger, + all our crap in the sun and rain, on twisties and on the highway.
The bad: my hands are still a bit numb from the vibes. My 2014 clutch basket needs to get here ASAP. I might also need to look into new handlebars with the same height as stock, but a little more pullback.

Have you thought about something to open the wrists up more? Or, in other words, what makes you think more pullback would help? IMO, the Tenere stock bars are awfully swept inwards, not conducive to long distance or offroading...

Ergos are different for each person. The width and angle of the stock bars don't line up to where my wrists and arms naturally want to rest. I feel my shoulders tense up because I need to move my arms and elbows outward to line up with the bars.

Corrected an improperly installed headlight bulb. Got the idea from another thread with a photo of the headlights. Will be testing them tomorrow night.
