While you are fiddling around the windshield area…..make a shield to prevent the windshield (like the VStream you and I both have) from acting like a magnifying glass and melting your instrument surround or face. This happened to my 2015 S10 and the shield I made for my ‘21 just had a hole burned through it on my last trip while parked without damage to the instrument panel. I am going to start putting a t-shirt over it as I used to do on my Honda ST1300 (burned a hole through the dash with the stock windshield).
The pictures show the hole burned by the VStream and the trustworthy t-shirt to prevent this while parked.

Wow, I have never seen anything like that before. Not even on my ST1300 with a stockshield and I did some desert riding at over 110°F. A T-shirt looks great. Have to stop by Salvation army tomorrow and get the right size. That will also make it easy to get the frost off on cold mountain mornings in the late fall!

I rode it to work and then left early and went for a 250 mile ride. Gravel roads, paved and roads that switched back and forth, some curves roads too. Those MotoZ Tractionator GPS tires continue to impress. Easily doing 45 to 50 mph on gravel roads with lots of looser gravel still. Even was coming down a hill in gravel and saw a stop sign at the last moment and pressed both brakes and stopped just as I came abreast of the stop sign. Abs is working!!! It held straight and didn't wiggle. I used my battery set up for my Bipap last night. I needed a long ride to see if the bike could charge that big battery up. Just after start up it was at 12.8. Uh oh! Mile down the road up to 13 volts. Then stayed at 13.2 most of the ride. The last 30 minutes it started climbing. And got up to 14.0 volts. Battery must be done! I got off and went inside and hooked it up to the charger. It charged for maybe a minute then full.
NW ILLINOIS is green and beautiful with plenty of rolling hills. 80●

Where in NW IL is that? I'm looking to check out something new and semi-local. I get down around Galena/Freeport from time to time, but haven't poked around too much.

BTW - did a ride to Rockton WI last Sunday for barbeque chicken. County T out of Barnaveld and the highway 56 out of Richland Center were great. Highly recommend to anyone. Really the whole ride was great, but those two sections stood out. Rode them before, but it had been some time and I'd forgotten how good it was.

I really like County T from near the river to Barneveld. Pavement was getting rough last time I was on it. My grandmother lived just West of Sauk City, WI. I've wandered all over that area. The American Legion in Richland Center has very good burgers.
Here is a link to my ride. I have been playing a bit with Rever. Most of the pics were from Dixon to near the Mississippi River. That section between Savanna and up through Galena then to Scales Mound on the Stagecoach Trail is one of my favorite local rides for curves and scenery.

Rough pavement on T is part of the fun!

Fortunately have never experienced any dash melting issues but if need to park in bright sunlight I usually try to cover the gauges with my jacket or a microfiber towel.

Not on my CBR.
I was in Rockton last night near the end of the ride as I stopped by a friend's house. I will have to look up that BBQ place.
It's the Rockton Bar, just off 131. They do their barbeque on Sundays from May through October. Tends to be a Harley-oriented crowd, but generally biker friendly. Had a nice chat with a few members from the CC Riders club from Madison this past Sunday (they had a whole bunch up there). Not sure I'll go again on the weekend around the 4th of July - it was really busy.

We came across it a couple of years ago while doing the southern end of the Trans WI Trail. A good stop for lunch between Black River Falls and Prairie du Chein. They even welcomed us on our 250s and covered in dust from the dirt/gravel roads.

That has to be a different Rockton then. I was talking Rockton IL just south of Janesville. 131 is another nice road!

Rockton bar is usually packed on Sundays during summer, they sometimes serve over 1,000 chicken dinners, they like to have folks call ahead to let them know how many are coming, without a reservation you might not be able to have grilled chicken but they do also have other good food. Seems like there are also quite a few car collector groups there. I would say whoever runs the place is a very good business person !

LOL. Yes. I forgot about Rockton IL.

And calling ahead for chicken seems odd, but a good idea. We ran into that on Sunday, but they still sold us two tickets, which was nice. Wasn't necessary our prior time there, so it caught us by surprise.

Mostly an excuse for a nice ride, so I would have been ok if we'd have had to find somewhere else for lunch.

Ok, I lied... it is not ready to go!! I ordered a 2 gallon rotopax fuel can and mount. It fits perfectly between the passenger grab rails. I have an idea on how to mount it. I will post when I am done with it. I ordered a compact tripod and something to hold my phone up to my spotting scope. I want to take some pictures up there. Today was like Christmas. The gas can, cargo nets, motion pro bead breaker/tire irons, and My Medic first aid kit came in. 20230708_182554.jpg
So this is the view off my deck. Taken with my phone and there are some cattle down there. That barn is 1/2 mile away or 800 meters.
20230708_182602.jpg
This is fully zoomed in with my phone.20230708_182505.jpg
This is at about 35x with my scope. I can go to 60x.20230708_180948.jpg
My son messing with it and brought that barn really close!

Changed the oil and rear differential oil too. Made video of it as I have the T-Rex Racing Bash Plate. So now you can see how it is during an oil change.

Well, I made my gas can holder spacer and mount. I had two spacers to choose from 3/4" or 1/2" as I had The Metal Supermarket cut off some 4" aluminum round stock. I chose the 3/4" one. Could have done the other one. Ah well... drilled it then countersunk the heads. A friend had an 11/16" bit that allowed me to use a socket to tighten it up with as I had nothing that big to use as a countersink. Painted it then cleaned the backside of the spacer and the top box with Brakleen then heated the spacer and stuck on some 3M Extreme tape then added a layer 90° to the first for thickness and mounted the holder to the can and then stuck the mount and spacer to the top box. It doesn't move. I was yanking on it to see if it would come off. I had to stop or else any harder and I would have pulled the bike off the centerstand! So I have a 1/2" spacer slug if anyone needs it!
Since I bent my left pannier when I hit something with it it isn't waterproof anymore. I got it bent back close but it is still off. So I put a big bead of caulk on the pannier and then laid saran wrap over it and closed the box. Hopefully thst will make it seal a bit more.
Now for the bad news. I just had a back molar shatter on my lower jaw. I have to get that fixed before I can head to Alaska! I am not happy!@!!!!!!#^@&$&$^@20230711_192806.jpg20230711_192808.jpg20230711_201859.jpg

My wife was very skeptical but it isn't moving!20230711_203522.jpg20230711_203555.jpg20230711_203612.jpg20230711_203701.jpg
Tomorrow I will trim it up... unless I can get into a dentist!
