I know it is not yours but... wish they would have shaped the front end of the top plate the same as the rear end plus cut two slots in it for securing baggage. On longer road rides I push back on the seat to stretch. Wonder if the rider will contact the plate.

Tomatocity, I would never rely on the tie down slots in the top plate of the Rear Compartment for any large bag but would secure the bag either to the passenger handrails or the bolts attaching the pannier mounts. The tie down slots might be okay for light day luggage. Same thing likely applies to the Rear Rack, but since I don't yet have it I can't say for certain. As for whether the rear compartment will bother me on long rides, I have only sat on the bike in the garage so far and it wasn't an issue, but of course that is not at all the same as a long ride. Cheers, David

I've been kicking this tool storage problem around in my head for a while and after trying several different systems, I finally came up with the perfect answer. I now have plenty of storage to carry more than enough tools. Even found enough space for a small air compressor. The only problem I had was trying to figure out how to put the left Jesse bag back on and I finally realized, hell I don't need the bag any more. I've got a few extra tubes if anyone wants to copy this.

I was able to mount a tool tube on the starboard side using the existing mounting points for what would of been where the dual exhaust went. ::024:: I haven't really needed extra tools yet so i put a 1.5 Liter fuel bottle instead and i used my fifth or even sixth sense and was able to fit it so that my side hard case still mounts without even touching or the rear tire touching if it becomes fully depressed. ::002::

Looks like it's broke. Angle it up to match the muffler.

If its angled up the rear turn signal is in the way so you cannot pull items out and even with the side cases on at this angle you can still access it. ::021::

I tried that same green tube. While it looked great, there was not enough room for my Weber BBQ. I finally settled on this solution, which I did at zero cost using a recycled 55 gallon drum that I sand-blasted and powder-coated to match.

I've tried the mega tube and the standard tube in those mounting locations behind my givi racks, but a little more aligned with the flow of the bike's lines.

I've come to the conclusion that any legitimate off road riding will cause the mounts on the tube to start cracking. Gave up on it - now my wolfman tool pouch rotates between a tailpack or givi trunk (if two up).

YMMV, but it looks like that setup might hit the swingarm on full compression, or be swinging all over the place once the groomed gravel/pavement ends.

I mounted mine under the Altrider rack. Made some longer stand offs and a bracket or two.
Spent a few day's bouncing around Death Valley a couple weekends ago and they worked as planned

I finally got to this project, and had a piece of 14g stainless bent to match the contour of the factory passenger seat. I think 16g would have been enough, but it's plenty stout. It just took a little longer to whittle the tabs out when I got it home.

The sheet from the metal shop:

Roughed in with the tabs:

And with the Pelican 1170 box on it:

Now I should have a nice little place to securely store some stuff on solo trips, that attaches like the factory passenger seat. I'm going to try to use it for tools and items I don't feel like I'd need on my commute or a day trip, but want on longer, more remote excursions.

I have Wolfman Rock Mountain saddle bags mounted on their frames. I also had the small bags that mount in the frames when the big bags aren't fitted which are useful for my seat cover and a pair of waterproof trousers. I also had a tool tube that I had lying around from my old R1200 GSA. I mounted the tube on the Wolfman carrier by putting a 90 degree twist in the GS bracket. The Wolfman small bags mount up nicely to the frames and S10 pillion handles. Non of these interfere with the saddle bags so the job seems a good one

I'm interested in this method. Where did you get the tubes and how did you fasten them?
