I know it's been discussed before but I can't find it....I'm looking for a tool storage tube to mount on the bike. So before I build one from PVC, I'm hoping to get some advise from those who have already set one up. I'm interested in where to buy one.

Thanks in advance.

Agriculture tube mounted on inside of pannier rack. So when I wanna ride without cargo, my tools are still there.

With panniers, easy access.

+1 easy & cheap. Mine had a drain hole that I had to fill with a small screw not big deal..They also fit fuel bottles perfectly 32oz I think??

I have a set of these Mega Tubes mounted on the AltRider engine guards. Right side holds a tool roll. Left side holds a can of spray cleaner or rain suit or ...
I've taken a spill, and while the tube got scratched, its mounting was not affected. The mounts are made from Kydex sheet and are loose fitting. I never notice them rattling. While my shins can make contact, that hasn't been an issue.

Search "Tool Tubes", you'll get results.

Put a small Pelican case #1120 behind license plate, with the SW-motech pannier brkt there as well it's very sturdy
out of the way, waterproof & totally accessible.
After I remount the license plate you will hardly notice it

I had these installed but removed them because it would be difficult to add oil but they hauled tools and tire repair gear very well.

I now use a measured funnel/on-off spout/capped tube purchased from Walmart.
Remove the Tool Tube cap, which lets me access the oil fill cap. I carefully hang the funnel from the handlebars so that the fill tube just reaches into the oil filler hole. Then I can meter in my 3.6 US quarts of fresh oil.

Doesn't that push the license plate out far enough that the plate light won't illuminate it?

That wouldn't pass inspection around here and the cops favorite probably cause is plate light out....

Other than that nice idea ::008::

Not really as issue where I live :)) Only lots of front light so cagers see us
Would't be hard to extend the miserable stock license lamp if required though
I still like this better than the tube I used to run, could never fit what I wanted in it and then had a hard time getting anything out.
Then I lost the tube & $100 bucks worth of tools  . So I'm going with this ::013::

Good to hear that works for your tube. Mine were mounted lower since I used what was available; 3/4" x 3 1/2" x 12" wood mounted with stainless steel / rubber P clamps and stainless steel bolts, nuts and washers. Was easy to work with and inexpensive but the thickness of the wood pushed the tubes lower and in the way of the oil cap.

I also purchased the tool tube liners and tool wrap and they work very well. The tool wrap is very good. When it is loaded with tools and wrapped it fits in the mega tube plus I can store towels, gloves, etc in the cap. The liner for the tool tube holds the tire repair tools+ and can easily be removed from the tube. Keep tools from rolling into the depths of nowhere.

In the beginning I tried to get sheet aluminum cut to 3 1/2" x 12" (Givi Engine Guards) but was unable to to get that done before leaving on a trip. Time to get the aluminum cut and the tool tubes remounted. Thanks Boondocker.

Thanks for all the responses! There are some great suggestions. I jumped the gun and went with one of these (agriculture tube) like the one on snakebitten's bike. It looks good but it was cheap enough that I will not have a problem abandoning it if something better comes along so keep the ideas flowing...

Did you pick it up locally? If so where did you get it?

Farmer's Supply and harbor Freight both usually have the tubes. You can also check local welding supply companies, they usually have a tube like that to contain welding rods. Any of those options are cheaper then getting them online.

Even Home Depot has the welding rod tubes....The advantage to the welding rod tube is they are water tight and a bit bigger than the AG Tubes but they don't have the convenient mounting tabs...

I ordered it directly from Agri Supply. I looked around locally but did not find anything (did not look for welding tubes). Figured rather than drive around I would just order. Shipping was pricey though.
