I'm debating Shinko 705 or the Mitas E-07. In order for me to get to the mtn trails, I ride 100 miles of interstate, then 4 lane road, eventually back roads. I also like riding mtn roads and don't really want to lose that tight turn ability. That said, the "off roading" I will be doing is primarily forest service roads and the occasional Jeep trail. No heavy mud, no heavy trails. But I want good traction on the forest service roads.

From your listed riding it's kinda a coin flip. I say try Mitas first, double the mileage but not double the price. Would eliminate one tire change also. If you're paying someone for tire changes adds to the savings.

+1

Both tires will do well for what you say. And it is not a problem to drag a peg with the Mitas if you want. I am getting about 5K+ more miles out of the Mitas, and even with the cost difference, comes out about the same or just a little cheaper. And the Mitas is a tougher tire.

Was on US191 in AZ today and came over a hill at 75 and find marble size hail. That crap stings!!! Slowed to 30 and it only lasted a minute or less. Was not till I was thru it that I realized the road was white but the Mitas E07 snow tires did their thing!

Since I started using tap a talk I do not see sigs and have no idea what mine is. Will have to check it on a computer.

Stopping for my daily slice of pie in NM. Today completes riding in every state of the lower 48.

Big Bend tomorrow then head north.

During last years Zion Ponderosa Rally we did a day trip to the North Rim. Very cold and rainy, we all joked we didn't know the state to the south of Utah was Alaska.

Just missed you. I passed through Big Bend yesterday on my way home from Mexico.

Update- my rear Mitas E-07 Dakar did indeed make it home before cords showed. Farthest I've taken one of these tires down and don't plan to repeat it. Even did ~60 miles in the pouring rain from Valentine to Alpine TX. Kept speed down 50-60mph to prevent hydroplaning.

What was the final mileage SilverBullet?
12,722 miles. I've gotten more miles than that before but this tire did CO passes and plenty of aggressive twisty mountain pavement this summer. Mountain riding is typically more brake use. I have another E-07 on my spare wheel in the garage with 11,562 miles on it and looks good for at least another 3,000 miles but none can be serious off road.

I thought that rear tire was worn out when I saw it in Colorado in July! Based on that the spare I have in the garage is about new. Glad you made it home safe.

Heck it was less than half life then and still very dirt worthy. I have added ~7,000 miles on it since we parted ways in CO. Ferris you want to ride in Tennessee this month. This is a primo event, I need more Tenere support in that big field of GS's.

I'm ready to buy another set of E07's. I bought the last ones on eBay at a pretty good price. Are there any vendors here that sell them?

If you DON'T mount your own tires... ask business that does the mounting what they would sell you a set of Mitas E-07 Dakar tires.
