I am guessing that the GSA has factory crash bars, skid plate, pannier racks and maybe even panniers and the Yamaha is bare. Also, how about gas? Keep in mind the GSA has a much larger fuel tank. With all the discussion comparing these two bikes, I don't think it's a fair comparison. I think you should compare the S10 to the BMW GS not the GSA. Put a fully farkled S10 full of gas on a scale sometime. I'm thinking mine would go about 625 pounds with crash bars, skid plate, panniers and full of gas.

Maybe if I get a wild hair I'll weigh both my fully loaded S10 with the 8.2 gallon tank and the wife's GSA and see what the numbers are. Have to go over to a truck scale or find something convenient. :D

yes this is with fuel ect , ready to ride, base model doesn't have rear racks and panniers and even when subtract that extra 7 liters of fuel GSA takes it's about the same weight as ST in standard configuration. Tenere has no crash bars though, still - in standard configuration it's not the heaviest adv bike anymore.

Found this pic. awhile back that puts it in a pretty good perspective. This will be the 1200 LC GSA not the newest 1250.
Rode around the US this past summer with a riding partner on a 2018 1200 GSA. It certainly has much more of a presence when parked than the Tenere. Actually makes the Tenere look smallish compared. Is mostly due to the large fuel tank and engine guards that pretty well extend to the width of the cylinder heads. The weight of the two is about the same on paper aparently.

THAT is the picture I'm talking about! They try and hide the motor, I guess, by expanding the fairing out to cover it; end result is something that look HUGE. I never looked at a spec sheet. I KNOW, by the seat of my pants which bike FEELS heavier. That's why I was surprised to find the Yamaha was heavier than the BMW.

yeah, such comments are really already boring. Probably coming from kids who cannot afford more expensive toy.

Not necessarily. Years ago, I was more than ready to pay for a Beemer. Then, I experienced the reliability of the Beemer. THAT is why I don't have one. Don't start assuming....you know what they say. ;)

toys don't have to be reliable...they have to make you smile ;)

p.s.
this is not really the point here or my intention to discuss reliability.

Boy I don’t know. I just traded my second FJR in and it is 640lbs bike and the Tenere feels a lot lighter then it. Especially naked

Also is this weight actually tested, or is it claimed weight through BMW? They lie by close to 100lb, so if it's BMW claim, that is one heavy beast, probably 650lb at least in reality.

And there lies a fundamental difference between riders. For some, it is a toy. For others, it's a tool. Mine is a tool to take me places far and wide and everywhere in between. I once used three different tow services to get the wife's BMW home when it broke down. Not a fun weekend. Then I rode my Super Ten home and drove back to get her.

Assuming the advertised weight of 573 is accurate, I figure mine would weigh about 625. I would guess the Yamaha panniers with mounting brackets add 15 lbs. The Altrider upper and lower crash bars add 10 lbs. Hepco Becker skid plate adds 8-10lbs. Altrider luggage rack add 4-5lbs. Madstad winshield bracket w/gps mount, Barkbusters, handlebar risers aux lights all add some weight.
