Yes, have to pull the guts out. No real need for the special tool. You can suggest to any shop-My bike has blown fork seals since coming south on the Dalton Hwy. Cleaned everything just north of San Francisco and replaced pads. Going to blast everything tomorrow morning to get me into Idaho. So going down a BDR probably isn't wise. I was thinking of calling a place in Idaho to see if I could get them changed out. If I remember correctly you don't have to remove internals to change out seals do you? I can't remember. I have the Traxxion Dynamics suspension AK-20 kit and the stock tool won't hold the internals to tighten up the lower bolt.
I am in Fields now and it is very smokey.Yes, have to pull the guts out. No real need for the special tool. You can suggest to any shop-
turn fork upside down. Compress the for as much as you can while zapping the bolt with an impact gun. Comes out every time. No big deal. Hope to see ya !
Smokey here too. Ive did a little recon on the fires that are up IDBDR way. The smoke we are getting is from a new fire that started on Weds the "East MTN Fire" up near Cascade. We are supposed to get some significant, for here anyway, rain late Tomorrow and into Monday. It will probably hit the east side of the divide on Tues. IF we get the rain they are talking about it might put a major hurt on those fires as long as no lightning accompanies it. By the way, I picked up 2 seals IF you want to come get them tomorrow. If not Ill just put em with my spares. Where are you going to camp tonight?I am in Fields now and it is very smokey.
I am now in Rexburg at my son's house as I saw it was supposed to rain so I decided to push it a bit. Much cooler too. What town are you in?Smokey here too. That is White Horse Ranch Rd.I was going to suggest that way as it is a quick way to get to 95 from Fields and onto Boise. I figured that you high tailed it because of the weather. Smart move! Its supposed to rain for the next day or so with some possible falsh flooding but If it rains a lot it will help put out some of the fire for sure. Its supposed to be nice after that. It should be less dusty too.I've decided to head home. Been on the road 36 days and coming up into SE Oregon and then into Idaho seeing all the smoke I decided to pass. I was thinking of going from Boise to Moscow and see friends then up 12 to Lolo Hwy then down to Rexburg but not if it is so smokey that I can't even see a mile away. (That was at Fields) I View attachment 104706could see better when I took a gravel ranch road over to 95 but still real hazy. Hope the rain clears some of it out for you guys.
I'll be ready for the next go round though.
Sweet,ID about 30 miles, as the buzzrds fly, from Lowman,ID at the crossroads of the IDBDR.I am now in Rexburg at my son's house as I saw it was supposed to rain so I decided to push it a bit. Much cooler too. What town are you in?
Ah, Lowman. That's on a road I have been wanting to ride on for some years.Sweet,ID about 30 miles, as the buzzrds fly, from Lowman,ID at the crossroads of the IDBDR.
Sure,I was hoping the weather would hold out and we could ride together. I was going to suggest a ride up Banks/Lowman Rd onto HWY21 to Stanley. Id turn back and from there you could have ridden down into Sun Valley and then across the desert through Craters of the Moon and Atomic City onto Rexburgh. Maybe next time.
Hwy 21 is definitely more picturesque and twisty than Hwy20 for sure.Banks/Lowman Rd that T's into 21 at Loman is pretty amazing. Stanley/Red Lake area is pretty special. Hwy93 from Stanley to Salmon, along the river, is also really fun and curvy. Yah hit me up when you come back through. BobSure,
I've crossed from Rexburg on 20 to Boise a couple of times but I keep looking at the map and seeing those twisting roads up to Lowman. When I get a custom seat on this bike 500 miles will be no big deal. I never thought that I would say that about an adventure bike... but here I am saying it! With the winglets, the infill dash sold by a member on here and the VSTREAM windshield I am very well protected with no real buffeting unless it is strong side wind or a front wind off the 10 or 2 o'clock position. Still not bad. I was rolling 81 mph last night and wanted to roll past someone who was in front of me and going up hill. I rolled on the gas... and nothing really happened? Huh, got on it more and slowly went by... maybe 80 miles later I look at the lower dash... what am I doing in Touring Mode? All better now.
I may be out here soon enough as my son lives in Rexburg and they are going to have a baby...
Yes, an interesting loop could be made out of those and some other roads like 20 west to 75 to 21 to Lu ky Peak state Park then double back to Rush Creek road then up 21 to Banks/Lowman to 55 north then 12 to 93 south. 12Hwy 21 is definitely more picturesque and twisty than Hwy20 for sure.Banks/Lowman Rd that T's into 21 at Loman is pretty amazing. Its raining here today and the route is getting a decent amount of rain from what I'm seeing/hearing. Hopefully not too much as that can be an issue also. The fires are far enough from the route that I dont think it will be an issue. It may turn out perfect as the dust on many dirt roads gets pretty bad this time of year and hopefully put a hurt on the fires. Southern/Central Idaho gets very little precipitation from late Spring to early Fall.Hi Bob, Thanks for the updates on weather and smoke along the BDR. It would have been nice to travel the route when it's clear, but it is what it is...the plan has inertia now.
Guy. It's seriously too bad we'll miss you this time...truly. I was hoping to meet you, talk about your adventure from the last couple months. I have been following your blog and was surprised you'd even consider this trip. We'll definitely have to think about something for next time. We're not that far apart geographically, so... Safe travels, my friend.
