What I mean is: in the radiator side the low part has no mesh and is closed. IMHO it could be sensible open it to allow more ventilation from the radiator....

While in the right side is open where all the electric parts are (2). Strange... ::005::

As you can see (1) the mesh is closed an there is a pattern witch is difficult to do home made. :(

For the moment Yamaha only sales the complete kit to the dealers. If they order a WC bike they have a normal bike and need to install the kit. So no friendship avoid the complete kit for the moment. :'(

Also when I saw a WC crash in the Yamaha WC test journey, I realized the carbon fibre sides aren't as flexible as the plastic ones and brake in a thousand pieces easily. So I prefer keep mines. The plastic ones are also more easy to paint if they are scratched (I did I one side). ::)

So... instead of pay a nonsense for the WC side pannels I did mines for very little (a big mesh cost 17€) and spend some good time doing it ::008::

You're right on CF. That material, with it's properties, has got nothing to do on any kind of off road bike.
That said, i would really like those fork protectors, even in fiberglass.
As for the kit, i was told that they could order the kit for another bike, whose eventual owner doesn't want it at all. All they need is frame number to tie up with the kit.

About the fork protectors: I prefer the metal ones Wasp did. I've found the WC ones too big and breakable for what I'm doing with my bike. If I can fix a 21" front wheel the metallic guards could be useful to rise the front guard.
As for the kit, is very nice looking but only cosmetic, I prefer some real protections.

I would really appreciate if you can post some DIY from the tail tidy job you did.
Still cannot belive non of the big co's don't have the replacement.
Ok. Here you are some pics I hope they show what I did:

The first thing is cut te OEM license plate holder. I found a used one in ebay so I can keep the OEM from my bike:

Here you can see how is installed

This is the license plate holder I modified

More detail

And this is how it looks.

I can also put some bigger license plate if I see it doesn`t protect from mud enough.

Hope it serve you ::008::

Tnx Jaime. This is great mod man, but out of my league. I don't have the tools, nor the skill to do it. I guess i'll wait for rizoma, or something.
I agree with combo...the best lookin' tenere si far.

Thanks guys!

This it was more complicated than I expected and is not a necessary mod, but if you really like it, the only things you probably must order to a professional are the three aluminium cylinders (1 to 3), and the 3 stainless steel plates (4, 5, 6) if you don’t have the material, the rest you can do it with ordinary tools.
I cut the OEM license plate holder doing holes in the plastic and cut the right shape with a cutter and the XJ6 wasn’t difficult to cut it, is aluminium.
So… it’s up to you!

Jaimie, you and Wasp are undoubtedly the two most inspiring S10 gurus out there. It's interesting to note both of you are pushing the S10 to it's mote dirt oriented side, I like it. If only my pockets were as deep as my wish list. Keep up the good work! I'm saving my pennies for a 21" front. Regards. ::012:: ::012:: ::012:: ::012::

NO WAY!! I'm just follow Wasp track, he showed me the S10 off road skills.
I know, the mods could be expensive but the bike is also very capable as it is in the original version so it’s not like other bikes you must upgrade it to do off road.
I’m very lucky with all the help I have from the different suppliers, I’m not rich, so it would be impossible to me to do all the upgrades without this help.

I’m also looking for a 21” front wheel. I love Woody’s wheels but to have one here in Spain with all the transport and custom fees is expensive, so I’m also saving money for it. This bike with this wheels could be an amazing beast!! ::008::

Re: Super Ténéré 1200 OFF ROAD preparations and experiences thread.

I was looking to protect the rear suspension “can” (I don’t know the name in English). It was exposed to water, mud and eventually rocks from the rear wheel.
Finally I did a mudguard. Then I did something similar in the other side so the pillion don't have so much water and mud from the wheel (I hope).
Waiting for rain to try it!!. Where I live is one of the driest summers from the last years.

Also I relocate the brake fluid bottle back to a more accessible place. In its original situation the bottle was behind the shock and there was difficult to access and to see the level.

This post need an update:

This is the new ACD skid plate version with new reinforced brackets

They have the first production and as you can see they are going to anodized in titanium colour.

Re: Super Ténéré 1200 OFF ROAD preparations and experiences thread.

I went to Mambatec (BM suspension distributor) to check the BM shock and fork. As a prototype for the Super Ténéré they wanted to check them are after the hard off road use I did. They have now almost 7000km but everything was ok. I'm very happy with these suspensions and this people professionalism.

Their suspensions are custom made. Before an order, the customer has to fill out a questionnaire about the type of riding, the weight is usually carried, etc. They make my rear shock with the possibility to rise the height up to 30mm so I can change the bike geometry, improve the ground clearance or levelled the bike if I mount a 21” front wheel.

They also care to detail, they have designed a specific supports for the Super Ténéré which are perfectly integrated into the bike. I've never liked to see this high quality (and expensive) shock absorbers attached to the bike with simple steel clamps.

Since I have these suspensions the bike has changed completely, despite the weight of the bike, jumping is almost impossible to reach the end, there are endless adjustments (high, low, compression…) and the performance in all areas is superior to everything I've tried so far. I also noticed a lot of improvement with the front springs and fork oil, much progressive that the standard.

So, highly recommended, if you want more info: http://www.mambatec.com/

This is the knob to tighten the spring if you carry passenger, luggage ....

And here is the bottle to regulate high and low. Normally that is fixed with clamps but Mambatec designed a support attached to the passenger footpegs

Re: Super Ténéré 1200 OFF ROAD preparations and experiences thread.

The new big change is in progress: a 21" front wheel.
After several attempts, I hope this week I’m going to have the new wheel.
Meanwhile we are trying the rest of modifications using another bike wheel. Soon we realized we need to modify the skid plate, the wheel doesn’t fit.

Then we decided to change all the brake lines to some metallic ones, the dealer decided to do it so he can commercialize them as a kit.
They look great, much smaller than the OEM ones. Sorry about the pictures!

If I had a dollar for every time I have read through this thread I could buy some more stuff for my bike. I actually have a shortcut to it on my desktop. The coolest thing is that it is not just for show. He really uses it.

True that! Not just eye candy for display. (Which would still be ok in my book)
But this Tenere gets to EXPLORE. the WORLD.

I use it for inspiration. Can't keep up on all the trick kit. But I do try to "be like mike" when the opportunity presents itself. Albeit, down a notch or 2. :)

You’re right: I use it and enjoy it a lot!! It must be ready to my next big trip in march to Morocco!!
With this bike I am very close to accomplish a dream: make my own bike… perhaps the next one??
I’m very please you enjoy it, it’s a very nice to share my passion with all of you.

At last!!
Today arrives the 21” front wheel so we can start to build the front fender brackets and looking where relocates the horn. Next monday I hope to have the new metallic brake lines (the previous ones needed to be improved) and start with the centre and side stands.
It looks great, I’m anxious to try it!!!

Personaly, i would go with a hi- fender with the 21" wheel...
The stock fender seems a bit too small...
Just saying
