Hmm , the picture shows it looks just the same as OEM. I sure would like to see it in my hand. Keep in mind that's a generic picture on the website link I sent posted.

The iridium one looks pretty flush compared to the platinum and OEM ones.

Disagree, the iridium one is much less projected, almost flush.
Cool deal thanks for the pic. Not sure but I might just end up going with the platinum plug. I've almost always used the Iridium in all my bikes so this would be quite a bit different.

The Projected tip Iridium NGK part number would be CPR8EAIX-9. It needs to have the "P" for Projected tip.
Ahh, I see. I was just going off the description of the plug on the website. Looks like Ebay has them for 17 bucks each.

Isn't this a funny thing with not only the Super Tenere but Japanese bikes in general. Here we are discussing what plug to use. Go on a BMW, KTM, or any European bike forum and the discussions are how to do a major repair such as driveshaft failure, electronic issues, etc.. LOL

I bought another set of OEM plugs from Rock Auto for my upcoming 52,000 mile service. I also replaced the OEMs with OEMs at the 26,000 mile service. I'll use these this time round as I don't really have any complaints about them and they're sitting on the bench ready to go. The first set I removed after 26K looked fine, barely worn at all. Not sure why Yamaha calls for such a short replacement interval. The Pt ones would probably last 100K!

Right on Jeff. Just for the heck of it I plan on changing mine between the 5000-12000 mile service. It looks like the Super Tenere is not much different than my Ninja 650R as far as changing the plugs. In fact it looks like you don't even have to remove the tank. I'm checking out a couple of you tube videos on the "how to".

If I hadn't already bought the OEM plugs I might go for the Pt ones. Don't know if you can change the plugs without raising the tank or not, I've only ever done it that way when I had the tank and throttle bodies out to check the valve clearances. You might be able to reach the plugs from the front by removing that front engine mount hanger bracket, but I've never tried this.

Tanks is raised but not removed (from the bike) for plugs maintenance.

Oh the Pt plugs are easier to start. The Denso Ir ones....sometimes takes 3 to 4 secs holding the start button to start. That is when I know the non-projected tip Ir plugs are not compatible.

EBay ones are more than likely a knock-off. (Fake) I made note of my ‘journey’ in my post. :)

I have to remind myself (and be reminded) that Ebay purchases can bite me in the butt. Long time ago I got some "really nice" Chinese silicone hoses for my KTM. One overheating incident and they ruptured.

I change my plugs every 25,000 whether they need it or not. Next change due at a 100k. Same with the air filter.

NGK states on their websites iridium plugs should be good 70k or even 100k km, personally never check them unless there is a starting problem.
Some people have too much time and money I guess doing unnecessary maintenance work only because manual said so :) same goes with oil, sprockets, filters etc. Motor industry obviously is happy because of that LOL

I just saw this quick video that shows that the KGK CPR8EIX is a direct Iridium replacement for the OEM plug. It has the projected tip as well. I used google translator to thank the guy.
