When my Big XT1200 comes in one of the first things I am going to do is apply this stuff (ACF-50) to the spokes. I have learned my lesson.

One day of riding close to salt water with a mist and wind or on salt sand it will do its thing to your spokes and bolt heads before you get home that same day. Trust me, I know and was a sad puppy on a new bike. :( :( :(

Once corrosion hits it is way late. It can turn a new bike into a 5 year or more old looking bike in one day.

Aircraft stuff and it works great on spokes. Works very good on dirt bikes and helps remove some existing corrosion on older bikes.

It says 'Our corrosion inhibitor is clean, free of toxins and safe" It also says DANGER HAZMAT PRODUCT ??? Wonder if it is safe or just because it is an aerosol chemical it is deemed a hazmat product. Have you use this before?

I use ACF 50 on my bikes. It is good stuff. Unfortunately, if you are going to use the Tenere as it's intended then corrosion protection won't help very much. I've kept mine pristine for the first six months but now is the time when I sacrifice thebike to whatever nature throws at it.

Swagger Why wouldn't it help much? Do you just have to keep reapplying it?

Not sure why but you pay extra on shipping due to Hazmat. My can has not arrived yet so I do not know what is in it to be listed under Hazmat.

I have not used it, but a friend does and his spokes look like new. Mine on the other hand is a different story after one day 5 years ago on a coast road in a salt mist fog off the water. I washed the bike as soon as I got home............too late! The rest of my KLR now matches my spokes. :))
Many riders use this stuff and love it.

I have read good reports on ACF-50 and after reading your post and thinking back to a warm winter day a couple years back, I decided to order some. I am in IL, far from any oceans, but they do spread a lot of salt on the roads in the winter. One warm winter day a couple years back I decided to take my KLR out for a ride. It was an enjoyable ride after not being able to ride for a long time, so I may have ridden about 100 miles. I came home and parked the bike in my garage. On the next warm day, I decided to wash the bike, and to my dismay, found the spokes on the rear wheel were corroded. I cleaned them as best as I could, with an SOS pad, but they never were the same. The same thing happened to a 2004 Gold Wing I once had, the rear alloy wheel got corroded from riding on winter roads with residual salt. Since then I refrain from riding on warm winter days, at least until we have had some good rains to wash the rain off the highways. I will put some ACF-50 on my new Super Ten when it gets here and hope it helps to avoid those problems.

BTW, the shipping for a$12 spray can is $13, just a few pennies more to ship two cans, so I bought two.

Are the spokes stainless steel or just plated??
I think they are steel with a coating on them like most others. I saw a photo a while back of a S-10 with nasty looking spokes because of corrosion. :'(

I tend to clean my bike thoughly once a week. I do use them in all kinds of weather and do circa 400 miles per week minimum. I tend to re apply the ACF 50 every couple of weeks to ensure that everything is coated. I do know of people that have had the product applied and it's lasted all winter but then they've not cleaned the bike in all of that time.

The spokes are plated steel and are basically crap. Mine dulled off after a couple of sessions in the wet. If you show 'em salt the plating disintegrates and delaminates.

How about replacing them with stainless? Or anodized?

One of the UK? guys on advrider did replace his with stainless after his originals corroded. I think Yamaha replaced the set under warranty and he then had a stainless set made. I recall that he said you could replace them without taking the tire off of even taking the wheel off the bike.

That's correct. It was Ray. He got S/S spokes but the spoke nipples were plated. Yes you can relace the wheel without removing the tyre as the rim is flanged.

Swagger, do you use this everywhere or only on the spokes and wheels? I use a Maxima silicon spray everywhere and seems to help but this seems to be a better solution. Never had experience with it though. I will have to order a few cans and give it a try.

I liberally coat the power train and everything that sees any aggressive elements. This stuff doesn't leave the nozzle in a conventional way. Something like WD40 can be sprayed in a reasonably consistent manner. ACF50 is viscous and appears to react as soon as it touches anything ... it's pinkish and frothy. It does do its job well. It sticks like .... well you know what it sticks like .... you know the expression sticks like ... arrrgghhhhh nnnnaggghh .... can't say it or I'll be forced to redact my own post :D

Thanks for the great report on this stuff. I had never heard of it before, but will give it a go...
As Fred said, the shipping is cheaper on more cans, so I ordered 3. Should last awhile..

I bet those wheels would look super cool if you had the spokes black anodized. I wonder if it could be done, and how durable it would be. Would look especially cool on the Raven model.

i thought the Stainless Spokes that guy in Europe had for the Tenere were really cool. I bet those could be powder coated.
