Replacement Handlebar Question

For those of you who have replaced the handlebars (I am thinking of using the Pro Tapers). How did you re-attach the hand guards at the end?
Is there already a fitting inside the new bars to take the fixing bolt that goes down the end, or did you need to get a replacement insert to use?
Thanks.

There is no fitting in the replacement bars to fit the existing bar end weights. I bought some off ebay (sorry don't know how to do link) Search ebay for ' Universal Motorcycle Bar End Weights 22mm - 13mm inner' that should find you what I bought. They fit a treat but are a fair bit lighter than the stock Yam one's. Having said that I didn't notice any increase in bar vibration. hope that helps

I'm only up the road from you so if want to call over to take a look at my bars and bar ends let me know ::008::

There's a thread on here somewhere where they used an FJ-09 bar on the Tenere which took little to no modding.

I don't know what you have over on that side of the world, but I used HDB inserts on my Pro Taper bars.

Here's a stupid question that's somewhat related. What's the primary reason most people trade out the stock bars? Are you looking for something with more strength and more 'give'? Are you doing a lot of trail riding? Maybe something narrower or wider or with a different bend?

Just curious. I hope the answer doesn't immediately make say 'I gotta have that' and start throwing more cash at the bike.

The number one reason is the sweep/pullback on the S10 bars is really extreme and it causes people pain in the wrist, elbows and the area between the shoulder blades after riding for more than an hour. Additionally other bar bends can be higher/lower to fit people with different ergonomics (tall/short, short arms/long arms etc).

That makes perfect sense. Thanks.

I get a 'pinched nerve' feeling between my shoulder blades just under my shoulder on the left side when riding the bike. Always attributed to just the joys of aging. Maybe I should research this a bit more.

The Ergo issue becomes.. painfully... apparent when you own or ride other bikes that just feel more "right". My cheap ol' klr650 has better ergo's than the s10 did off the showroom floor. I think it's just because the s10 is a big bike, and tends to fit big people much better. I'm 5'11, can't flat foot the bike and I was leaning way too far forward to be comfortable with the stock handlebars. I've added rox risers, had a shorter shock built, and a RDL seat installed. The bar is the last mod that should get me into the position I'm looking for. I want to take this bike on a 10 day trip through the south east in the spring.

Same here I changed mine to bars with much less sweep back. There's a database on here somewhere which shows just about every bar available for the S10 and also gives the different amounts of sweepback. It helped me make the right choice

My mid-upper back, left shoulder and left elbow began to scream after long rides and all 3 vanished once I installed the ProTapers. Low-height, ATV Contour bars on top of Rox risers will give you the "elbows out", attack position that is more comfortable than the swept-back stockers. If you aren't using the risers, I would suggest looking at the Raptors as they are much taller bar.

Not sure if you've made up your mind but these are brilliant and are not difficult to install, http://www.g2ergo.com/store/threaded-bar-end-mounts/

Once threaded and installed, you have a very solid place to attach weights and/or hand guards.

Pro taper is now making "Adventure" bars in high and low. The High is REALLY high.

31mm higher than the Raptors and 54mm taller than the Contour ATV High's. Probably wouldn't need the risers for these ADV bars.
