Rode my S10 around some buildings at work, where the pavement was free of snow/ice. I couldn't really shift above 2nd gear, so there wasn't a proper shakedown, but did notice there was more torque on tap from lower RPM range on. Also noticed that the front wheel lifts off the ground briefly in 2nd as the RPM passes though midrange...no coaxing, no snapping the throttle.

I think I just turned a mild-mannered mare into a 'tail shakin filly!' 8) ...or maybe it changed gender to 'Italian Stallion.' :D

One additional note: I noticed during slow-speed manuvering that when you're at very small throttle openings there is a point where the injectors drop to fuel delivery for engine idle kinda suddenly, just as the OEM unit does (S-mode). This is a good thing for me, because the sudden cut-off is normally done for emissions purposes, and Japanese bikes get a smog check every 2 years.

At my advanced age I sometimes find it difficult to keep track of the facts ::010:: (even though there's very few of them here :)) :))) sooooo here's my Q.

Have any USA ECU's been reflashed by Diapason?

I'll be in Europe for a few months this summer and I'm thinking I may want to take the S10 ECU and have it educated in Italy. ::26::

Regards, Paul

There are none that I know of, and I've been hanging out in this thread since it started. O:) The one guy that tried..is 'Sport Rider' but his ECU stayed in Italian customs too long without pickup, so it was returned to him; this after waiting close to 2 months because he sent via USPS! Yeah, if you're going to do it, I'd say hand carrying is best. It takes Diapason about 5 days from when they receive the ECU to get the flash done and get it back to you.

I wonder how different the Diapson v. ECUnleashed flash can really be?

Same thing I'm wondering. If I was livng in the states, where they don't do mandatory emissions checks, I would go with ECUunleashed. The only differece I've noted from the reviews done by people at this forum is that the sharp cut-off the injectors as you are closing the throttle at low throttle openings seems to be gone with the ECUu flash. Here's another possible difference though: Since ECUu asks for the octane rating of the fuel you plan to use, this suggests they mess with the ignition timing. Diapason doesn't ask for that, so I'm assuming they leave that alone.

Another thing to consider is that Diapason is in lock step with Yamaha Italy in much of what they do to ECUs. Tosco has indicated that they consulted with Yamaha when developing their flash. Also you can see on their website where they say Technicians from Yamaha Italia verify the ECU mapping on their R6 and R1 race bikes is compliant with race rules prior to a race. Diapason are the guys that put that flash in and encrypt it, so if Yamaha has access to their code that proves again the close relationship. It makes sense because Diapason is the authorized tuner used by a Yamaha dealer (Motoshop Yamaha).

That, to me, would mean that ECUunleash has more latitude to do what they want to do, like moving the rev limit upward and changing the ignition timing wheras Diapason has Mama Yama looking over their shoulder because they are joined at the hip with Motoshop Yamaha.

Good information/considerations. I was thinking the ECUnleashed flash was certainly inferior but perhaps not...

Just go ahead and forward the box to me. I'll pop it in my bike and give you a full report. "instant gratification"

Oh great, now I'm getting taunted by those that have it while I stare at a wheelless bike. ::)

This will be the longest week of my life.

Go ahead, rub it in. You all have a seven day pick on Pluric window. :'(

I've got a honest to goodness burning question. I'm not trying to play devils advocate here, I'm just curious.

I'm pretty happy with the bike as is right now but I'd be lying if I said more power wasn't appealing. However, and I haven't seen this brought up yet, what effect will the reflash have on the shaft drive? I mean I've heard of Hayabusa owners changing sprockets and chains as often as they change the back tire. Which was pretty often. It's a 600lb bike after all what if Yamaha purposely put the restriction in there for reliability reasons. Obviously the rear tire will give up the ghost a lot faster but I would hate to have problems with the shaft drive.

Sorry if this has been hashed out already. I just had some resevations about all of this and was wondering if this aspect has been thought about from people who have done the modifications.

With the new flash you won't need a front wheel! ::013::

Hey Tremor, great that you finally got the stallion out of the stable!

My initial reports were "objective" in nature, but as time goes on I am loving this more and more. Becoming increasingly difficult to be objective. Today I at-least twice yelled wooooo-hoooooo into my helmet as I slammed it. Fantastic feel to the engine over much wider range than before ::015::

Of course that's possible. OR maybe Diapson doesn't ask you for your fuel octane as they assume you will use the Yamaha recommended premium and they have built a map based on that, maybe including timing changes.

Or maybe not. We really don't know .

So I run home from work, slap the ECU in and as others have said started right up.
I'm listening close to try and hear any difference. At idle it had a really odd sound.

I blip the throttle and the sound gets louder and odder sounding. Almost like and exhaust leak.
I had not touched the exhaust system so I can't figure out what's going on.

I turn around to look at the back and see the problem. The exhaust is blowing a plastic bag
on every pulse. I'm focused over the front not even thinking about something so simple. Doh. ::010:: :D

Yes, just an assumption. ECUunleased also advertise that they change the timing wheras the only thing Diapason mentions is the throttle body restriction...neither here nor there though, just my assumption.

** I just sent Tosco and motoshop's 'Ricambi' address an email asking about the timing. They have already said they can't publish the fuel map because of Yamaha Italia's policy, but maybe they can answer more general questions. We'll see I guess.

:D :D :D good thing you figured that out before stripping the whole bike down :D :D ::008::
