So today was mostly about giving mine a full 12k service. Started with the usual oil n filter, decided I’d do the final drive so I know its done, well glad I did as its pretty obvious that neither of the two dealer services I’d paid for had done it. Filthy grey slime and quite a lot of gunk on the magnet. I will admit that this is one area BMW are better at….. putting their filler upwards so you can just pour oil straight in
. I swapped the fill and drainplugs for some nice stainless ones my mate Charlie makes and had donated me. Shame he’d run out of vent caps though. Cleaned the front brakes, then lifted the tank to check the air filter.

Decided that 12k was enoigh for the OE one, and as I’d bought a new one I might as well fit it.
But first I pulled the air box, pulled the plugs out, but just cleaned and gapped them. Find it hard to believe they need replacing at 12k. Gonna let them do double that unless things play up. Greased up the coil packs, although there was no signs of water ingress.
My mate Charlie swears by Throttle synching, so before dropping the tank I had a play with my Carbtune gauge.

Close enough. Just couldn’t quite get them spot on, but this is way closer. They were around 20-24 before adjusting. Test ride tomorrow will decide if its any better to ride.
There is a bit of concern about fuel supplies in France atm, so Charlie decided to mount a 5ltr can on the pillion luggage rack, and after he supplied a duplicate of a fitting kit he’d made I’ve bought the same can.

So after seeing tha Arrow can for sale on ebay, the Wife offered to buy it, so I thought ‘why not?’. So that went on next.
I’m planning a wee ride in the morning to try the exhaust, but I’m not convinced I’ll keep it. I use the panniers enough to worry what the exhaust heat will do to them aimed directly at the mount. Monday or Tuesday I’ll whip the back wheel out to take to my mot man to fit a new TA3 for the upcoming trip. I’ll give the back brake a clean up then, possibly new pads, they do look a bit thin. And I’d bet I’ll be refitting the OE exhaust too
