So today I’ve hit the 6000mile mark, and the rear OE Bridgestone is just about shot. I’ve a pair of Conti TA3s waiting to go on, but now I’m wondering how I’m going to get the back wheel off with no centre stand. Can’t use my Abba stand either it seems, although I will be having a look to see if there is any options for that. The FJR is also listed as not useable on the abba stand, but you can use it on the subframe bolts which allowed me to remove the centre stand to grease the pivots etc.
Axle stands up the footpegs maybe? Or make up a frame to locate in or around the centre stand mounts?
I’ve also got to decide if I’m gonna let the local stealer service it, or just buy a service kit from them and do it myself.

wet in wales
It was also very wet last sunday on a ride up through the midlands. By the time we got to the outskirts of Derby I was soaked and ducked out of the group; diving for cover under a petrol station forecourt. Tried to catch up once the rain eased, but no chance, so just squelched my way home from Sheffield.
I’ve bought the same side panel for mine, got some oe graphics to add to it too. And a set of pillion handles via one of our American friends, although I’ve not actually seen them yet. My son in law brought them back from a work trip there but forgot to bring them over with him friday.

I used to use the side stand and a single axle stand under the right hand foot rest bracket on my DR350 and XRV750. The XT might be a little too heavy to do that easily as you have to put the bike on the side stand and then push it over from the other side of the bike to slip the axle stand in with your foot.

Just tried it and got the back wheel up in the air. In my case the centre stand spring was a bit close so I couldn't push the axle stand all the way in, but you won't have that problem without one.20211107_221030.jpg

I also used to use a wind up stand under the centre stand brackets on my XRV750 (with no centre stand fitted). I set the brackets on the lift the right distance apart, then I could lift the bike to a vertical position and operate the lift until the bracket sat securely under the centre stand brackets. This would lift the rear wheel up. If I added a trolley jack at the front it would push the rear wheel down onto the ground and lift the front wheel instead.

So new tyres fitted this morning, wheels back in the bike before midday, and of course you have to check them and scrub them in…….. my mate John turned up and we ended up heading to Suffolk to check out a wee coffee shop085EA7B2-3F29-4E2E-A86E-FFB54EC3C530.jpeg
This shop use to be my great grandfathers butchers shop. I knew a bit about it, but had never been inside, so today was a bit of a treat. Talking to the staff they introduced me to the new owners father who then let me take a look in the old slaughterhouse in the yard.

And the old hoist and hanging rails inside

As for the Conti TA3s, wow….. they‘re certainly really lively, almost fell off it first turn leaving home, they tip in so easy compared to the OE Bridgestones. Never realised how much effort I must have been putting into the Bridgestones!! 180 miles had me getting the hang of them.

Bit of a sad decision made today. I’ve sorned my S10 for the winter. For our US members we tax our vehicles over here, either yearly or monthly. I generally do my bikes monthly, its only a few £’s more a year, and generally none are taxed all year, so I save in the long run. So when we Sorn, we notify the government that we’re not using the vehicle, and they have to be kept off road etc. No problem for a bike locked away in the garage. My reasoning is that she’s due her 6k service and atm I don’t have the time or money to sort it out, so I’ll park her up till spring and use the FJR for the occasional winter ride, including our big bike show in Birmingham next week. So I’ll miss her, she’s been a revelation this Summer, but the few months will fly by……..hopefully
And I’ll still hang out here with you guys…..

Givi pl pannier frames ordered today, xmas pressie from the wife. We have a small pair of 21ltr givi panniers that the wife use to use on her GPZ500 some years back. I’ll use these when needed, like I have on occasion on my gs. Although I have got my eyes on some 33ltr kappa panniers that look rather smart. So I might see if I can get a deal on those too. I do have rather a large collection of panniers and top boxes though. Got all 3 boxes for both the Pan and FJR, plus a spare Pan top box in candy red that I’m planning on fitting to my Blackbird project, the GS has an old givi maxia topbox and the S10 has a new maxia I bought for it. Which I think totals 11boxes to look after and store.:eek:
