I logged 350 miles behind the new VStream Touring windscreen this weekend. In short, I am extremely pleased with my purchase. Now for the full review.
First, Revzilla sells the VStream screens $20 less than National Cycle; a fact I didn’t know until after I made my order. I usually shop around, but in my excitement, I wasted $20.
What I was looking for: I’m 6”1’ with a 33 inch inseam. I stepped off my Harley on onto my Ten about 6 weeks ago. High among my reasons was the noise. I loved my Harley, but could not stand having a headache and ringing ears every time I rode. I always wear hearing protection, but the thing was too damn loud. When I made the switch, I wanted a quite bike. Not “quite for a motorcycle”. I wanted complete, and total, hear my stomach growling at lunch- time silence. My expectations were completely unreasonable, but I tend to shoot for the stars and settle for the moon. I knew the stock windscreen wouldn’t work, and after reading every review on every webpage about every windscreen, I made up my mind and placed the order.
What I got: I ordered the Touring screen. NC promised shipping in 48 hours and delivery in 7 to 10 days. I ordered on a Tuesday and received it on a Friday. I notice many companies are shifting their delivery model to “under promise and over deliver”, and they seem be following that trend. In any case, I was extremely happy to see it arrive before my trip.
What I found: It’s big, but not as big as the pictures make it seem. When you look at pictures posted by others, they are taking pics of the screen, so that’s what you see. When mounted, it is much taller than stock, but is not as bad as I was expecting. Does it look like a big ass windscreen mounted to the front of your bike? Yes. But I am happy to report that it works like a big ass windscreen too!!!
What I experienced: As stated I rode about 350 miles over 2 days. I mounted it on the higher settings. The first 150 miles were all highway miles averaging 80 to 85 mph. If I had mounted the flux capacitor, and my 1.21 jiga-watt battery, I could have made this post last week. The trip home was 200 miles through country back roads were I averaged about 65 mph. In EVERY case, this windscreen was excellent. I have about 2 inches of visibility over the top of the screen, so never had to look through it. Even toward the end of day two, and my posture had relaxed, I had plenty of room above the glass. The air flows just over my head, and there is no noise or buffeting. Slow ride through town… no wind noise. 95 mph… no wind noise. Merging onto an on ramp at 65 mph behind a semi (a real big lorry to our UK brethren)… a little bit of turbulence, but no wind noise. The only sound I heard was the chatter of my 1200 winding up like an angry sewing machine.
To wrap it up, I love this screen, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for similar results. It does a great job of redirecting the air, eliminating the noise and ensuring a smooth, wind free ride. This greatly improved my riding experience. My results were stellar, and I cannot say enough good things about the quality or the material and the performance.
My only disclaimer: the windscreen is only as good as your helmet. If you are wearing a cheap helmet, or “adventure” styling helmet with a visor, your results will differ. The touring screen displaces the wind just above my helmet. If I stand up, even a little, I am in the stream and get both noise and turbulence. A visor, or cheap seal will cause wind noise, so your expectations should be made with that in mind.
Hope this helps someone else with their choice, CB.
