Man oh man do you have mad skills my friend. I wish you were in SoCal as would love to put your fabrication skills to work on my other toy.

Are you going living it bare, or hard anodized black?

Looks good Jaxon! I wish I would have had more time on my recent trip to TX to stop by your neck of the woods. Would have enjoyed meeting you face-to-face AND seeing some of your work in person.

Has anyone though about adding a UHMW (plastic) plate layer to the underside of any of the alum skid plates?

I know a lot of offroad guys using sheets of the UHMW (1/4" thick), heating it, and molding it to custom mounts as skid plates on rock buggies. A friend builds these buggies for competition and uses plastic often. It is fairly light, flexes rather than cracking or denting, and slides over obstacles easily. You could probably find a cheap cutting board the right size to fit the ST at Wally-Mart.

Sure, those are the KRIEGA covers... www.kriega.com The covers are a transfer coating that looks like carbon fiber with auto clear on top of it.. We offering the process, I don't have it on the web site yet www.rideonadv.com Real carbon is to rigid for this application. There are some real carbon out there but IMOP these side covers need to flex. I will take some nice pictures of them when I pull my bike out of the rack this week... If you have ANY questions feel free to let me know know. Thanks ~ Jaxon

If I understand you correctly, IMOP, this still runs into the same issue. Your allowing the brunt force to be delivered though a cast aluminum oil pan... Don't get me wrong, this sounds like a really cool idea, and im sure for the occasional rock or something it will be protected im sure. But if your miss judged a ledge, or your front wheel slipped off of something off road, 1/4" of plastic is doing about nothing to protect a 575Lbs oil pan from getting damaged. *For me* im still thinking in the back of my head, if im 200 + miles away from civilization off on a jeep road out in no where and I whack the pan hard I have a REALLY good chance of getting back... I want that reassurance !!!!

Woooooooooooo Hoooooooooooooo....... yippy !!!! YEA........ Wooooooooooooo Hoooooooooooooooooo Im back on the beast... Ive had it up in the rack for a few weeks now... ::010::.... Well, its done and I LOVE THIS BIKE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here are a few sneak peak pictures... Ill get the rest up when I wipe the bike down and have some sun, its been raining.....

Side shot.. Its not just flat up the side.. Lots of strength and crush zones around the water pump and 02 sensor...

Oil filter cover... No need to take the whole unit off.. Just take the two bolts out.. The rivets hold two stainless steel backing plates that have stainless nuts welded to the backing plate. This is how I have the stainless bolts fasten the cover on ...

This is the rear of the skid plate up side down. These are the three counter sunk bolts that are holding it to the mounting bracket to the frame... You might also see the in the picture the new mount for the two vent lines that now exit the rear. They are held in place away from the exhaust. Better pictures to come.

Ok, Ill post all the full bike pictures really soon.... ::008:: Thanks for looking !!!! ::26::

Awesome mate! Now you should enlist stevepsd as a tester...

Get me details and pics when done and I'll add to the blog.

Looking Good - hope you didn't loose too much on the ground clearance. I know it may be too early to be on your website but when will this work of art be availble for us to get a hold of ::012:: ::012:: ::012::
Thanks... Ground clearance was important. In looking at several others, I noticed that they where sitting quite low below the pan... That really chews up ground clearance.... My bottom plate is 1/4" 6061... and it is sitting 1/4" away from the bottom of the pan..... My unit verses a bike with out any protection is 1/2" loss in ground clearance......... ::008:: It probably has the most ground clearance with a skid plate VS the others on the market....
They probably cant use 1/4" plate up that close to the engine because its much stronger and is connected to the oil pan. It wouldn't give that easy and destroy the engine mounts that the rest of the guys use... They use thinner material farther away from the case. Its so the bottom material will give, and when it does it wont poke a hole in the pan.....
