sat in a restaurant after work this past Friday... had the place to our selves . first time we were allowed the choice in Texas to be a free citizen since February . the tab came to 30 bucks added 20 to the bill for a tip. remember these workers have been shut out mostly as non essential workers and need money , so when one does get to eat out in a restaurant be as generous as possible . just my thought ..... can't wait till they lets us get haircuts again.

I have a dentist appointment on May 14th. That business will have a new normal. I would expect to have my temperature taken when I enter the office. If not I would wonder about their thoughts on self protection and that of their patients.

I live in a small county in KY with a population of 40K. I can tell you from being here in the middle of a covid hotspot how dangerous this stuff is. We had a church that went against the recommendations on mass gatherings and went ahead with a revival they had planned. One person with covid came from out of state to attend the revival. Over twenty church members got the virus and six are dead. These were the first covid patients the local hospital had seen and before they realized it was covid they were dealing with, several nurses got it. An elderly patient got the virus from the hospital and took it back to a local nursing home where over thirty residents and five employees got it. So far twelve of the residents have died including a husband and his wife. As of now we have 169 with the virus and 19 dead. I know three of the ones that have it and three that have died. The stories of what the families are going through is very heart breaking. Their mothers, fathers and grandparents are dying and they can't be with them.

I have tried to keep my distance from people for the last six weeks, but because of being over 65 I had a covid test done yesterday, just in case. While the test isn't anything you can't endure, you're damn glad when it's over. Results: negative!!

Here's a newspaper story on how one of of my friends died. https://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/2020/04/09/coronavirus-kentucky-woman-not-allowed-to-return-nursing-home-dies/2970848001/
Really sorry to hear how bad it hit your little county. We are in the suburb north of DC and while our rate has flattened, it's still 150-200 new cases a day! My neighborhood has a lot of police (we are the furthest from the big city) and of the 462 county employees alone who've gotten it, nearly half are police/fire so at least one family has it right here on my own street.

What surprised me is that nearly half HALF of the people getting COVID19 are in the 18-49 age group. My micro-biologist daughter who is in this up to her ears and in that age group says that people in her age range are not dying like us old farts but something not really reported is that a lot of people in her age range will have breathing issues for life. So for more than half of our little YST forum group, unless the case is minor the issue is about getting scar tissue in the lungs. We played around with the numbers and she said that if you take the total number of cases, multiply roughly times 20% (one out of every five people) because 80% are minor, then subtract the fatals, the answer will be how many will probably be an additional burden on the hospital system for the rest of their lives and probably lose years of life in the end. For the US that resulted in:

1,184,248 Total known cases
68,286 Known fatal
168,564 The 20% survivors who likely will be affected for life.

On related notes to share:
#1 is that she is really bothered by how many of the testing safeguards are being skipped and especially outside of the US. For you Brits she did mention the UK, because companies already pushing into Phase 2 testing on people are using the 3rd world as guinea pig subjects. Sounds cold but it isn't the first time and the idea is that any improvement is more than the number of people who would be lost anyway.
#2 is that companies and Governments anticipate going into production before they have significant data beyond immediate efficacy. In other words they may have data to show the vaccine can prevent COVID19 but will not have had the time to really watch for and understand potential side effects.
#3 bottom line was she thinks that while vaccines should be OK when they do become available in the West, her advice to me was to not be one of the first to get a vaccine when they come out.

I live in a small rural town, right on the state line. In My county in Idaho we have no positive tests. Across the border there are around 60 known positives in a three county area.

It seems here that in town is as busy or busier than ever. Home improvement stores have lines to enter, drive through eating places have lines.

The Covid-19 virus is starting to hit hard here in Wisconsin. The meat processing plants in Green Bay (Brown county) are seeing large outbreaks and some have been shut down. There are some outbreaks starting to show up in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Many of the "essential" businesses that stayed open are seeing outbreaks. Wisconsin is setting a record almost daily for new cases. The CDC was here last week setting up drive through test sites in Brown county. Most people around here were of the opinion that the virus would just skip this part of the world. Wrong, it's here and it will get a lot worse before it's over. With winter finally over, many people are going about their business as usual, ignoring the precautions. I think we are 4-6 weeks behind some other parts of the country.

The governor and the Department of Health Services have extended the Safer at Home orders until May 26. Of course the State legislature has seen fit to challenge this order in court. Governor is a Democrat, legislature is Republican. The State Supreme Court will rule on the challenge this week. The legislature wants to reopen the state in spite of the increasing spread of the virus. Many large events have been cancelled EAA, Country USA, Summerfest, parades to name a few. EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) is a huge annual event that was scheduled for the end of July. Unfortunately, the politicians have turned this pandemic into a political issue. I understand the importance of a healthy economy, but at what cost?

We have been having our groceries delivered and have only gone out when absolutely necessary with masks and gloves. I admit, I have gone for short motorcycle rides. Wisconsin has 72 counties and 34 of those do Not have any ICU beds. Eight counties don't even have a hospital. Just because you live in a rural area doesn't mean you won't see Covid-19 cases. The first case in Brown county was diagnosed on March 18, now they are looking at 1,400 cases and this number will undoubtedly rise with the increase in testing. I live in a nearby county and we have about 70 cases. Too many states are jumping the gun here on reopening, they don't even meet the requirements set by the federal government. Not one state has seen a 14 day drop. Enough ranting, be safe.

IL, the land of straight, flat, boring roads
Our youngest son lives in Green Bay and is still working as a director at the NBC station. Reporters are working from home, but directors and engineers are working at the studio, so he has to go in. They are wearing masks at the studio and so far, so good. They did change work schedules to 4 days, 10 hours so they only have to leave home 4 days a week. We are 7 hours south in IL, so are concerned with him getting by if he gets sick, as he lives by himself.

Good luck to you and your family Fred. Hopefully the CDC and the state Department of Health Services gets this virus spread slowed down soon. With the limited medical facilities in north eastern Wisconsin a surge in cases will quickly overwhelm them. The counties in that part of the state and parts of Michigan's U.P. usually transport patients to the Green Bay hospitals. This includes Door county, a big tourist area. Most of the county health departments have issued letters to discourage tourists from visiting. This includes people with cottages and cabins in northern Wisconsin. We'll see what happens when Memorial Day weekend gets here. The start of tourist and vacation season.

It’s all good, free people expressing themselves. Where ever they live. Some times free people do silly things that make us wonder. Better that than no freedom.

By the way I need a haircut and the politicians say I don’t need one . Barbershop and salons have to follow health guidelines but some how we can’t trust a barber

When national pride is stroked, right or wrong, and you have a number of people here from different countries, everyone is going to start swinging their d***. Nothing but unsolvable arguments, and belongs in the debate section.
