I hope this is not taken the wrong way. In fact, I hope it is taken as a positive.
I used to love guns. In fact, I joined a club and started competitive shooting at the age of 16. A short while in I had to tell myself, "this is not for you and walk away". Walk away from something I was getting good at and loved.
I will not go into the details of the situation that caused my decision, suffice to say I was a squeeze away from shooting someone in the head. On realising what could have transpired I made the gun safe and walked without looking back. The shot would have been possibly lethal, the intent of the shot 100% innocent.
Until this day I dislike guns. You know the reasons automatically.
Now, to this forum. There is a gun post:
a) I read the preamble, took note of the guidelines and avoided it. No harm, no foul.
b) I saw a post in the last week that caused me to visit the gun post and, to my surprise, it was an eye-opener... I enjoyed it... However,
c) there was a vote as to whether to keep the post, but because I had read the preamble I had no vote (having said that, I would have voted to keep it - with moderation)
So, to the topic at hand. I held back on my vote and later voted because:
a) it is not my forum. There are many long term members who I respect and understand (but on occasion disagree with) that have built the site to what it is...a great site
b) I then decided I should have a say as everyone's view should be expressed
c) if the topic is not for you then do not get involved. I like that we have differences - I'm not in favour of certain things that happen as a result, but I hope that we are mature enough to place the differences to one side (including mine, if that's ok, as I am an opinionated wanker) and move forward.
So, get involved if that is your thing. Be nice. Give it a pass if it is not for you... now, or in the future....
