It's in the Debate Room so let's see how long this goes before it turns into an "us-them" left/right attack.

A synopsis of the basics about January 6 is in this link and less than 5 days later there is a LOT still to be figured out, let alone where it leads to.

Bottom line is that while still being unorganized fringe groups, the following shows how the US has had an increasing right wing domestic terrorism threat since 9/11 - this was NOT just about wanting to contest the November election.

While not everybody present was an extremist, these groups rallied to calls to come protest the January 6 Electoral College count. Look at photos and you'll see a shocking number of people who intentionally brought guns, pitchforks, hatchets, molotov cocktails, pipe bombs, gas masks, body armor, fringe flags, etc, which illustrates how many were fringe in this crowd and came for trouble. A short guide to the groups seen is at: https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/09/us/capitol-hill-insurrection-extremist-flags-soh/index.html

We in the DC area are very nervous about the inauguration in less than two weeks and my guess is that there will be a LOT less tolerance for trouble makers. None of us in the Capitol Region thinks this is over. I personally know Capitol Police, Metro Washington Police, FBI, MD National Guard members, till recently had a Secret Service couple next door, and the kid who grew up across the street and was in our Boy Scout troop went into the Secret Service after the USMC. Our NTSB and FAA friends where Karen and I retired from are in buildings overlooking the National Mall. We've done 30 years of lunch walks past the Capitol, so this hits too close to home for us.

I would just ask that people posting in this thread CHECK into things they want to repeat because there are so many which are either false, with the basics misconstrued, or just meant to be provocative.

All I want is for everybody, red & blue, to have play by the same set of rules, and standards. (The Lady Justice is blindfolded for a reason) 'Cuz, from where I'm sitting they're not. . . . but, for CW's scissors sake, I won't pick sides.

so Matt ask a question and you checks wrecks have made it political ( your blaming right wings groups and us on the right see left wing terrorism ) all those so called peaceful riots that burned down downtowns ,killed people and just trashed cities this past summer was not right wing ...
I think your a basically good guy but you are biased , we see it , read what you just wrote .... I am not alone in noticing your bias . now for me to continue will not serve much but to aggravate you. you're human as I am we all have our biases .
MattR , no simple answer , but all nations over time have these periods of strife that test us all . USA is no different , infact because of who we are and what we mostly believe has the world watching as never before .... I'm not sure what's going to come of all this , im pretty sure it will not be good (history lesson , no one party system with no checks a balances has ever turned out well for the people of that country , and as of today we are a one party state ) (another history lesson , democracy democracy that's all we hear from some politicians , we are not a democracy and have never been one ..... a democracy is majority rules , you have people voting , but majority rules even over a minority, we are a representative republic . ) . time will tell and I Pray freedom remains part of our lives ....

Well to make a long story short, our president held a "rally" for his supporters on the day the election results were to be ratified by the congress. The president, his sons and Rudy Giuliani stirred the crowd up with their gaslighting tactics. They had convinced their followers that it was possible to reverse the results of the election. This is not possible under the terms of our constitution. The "rally" goers then went to the capitol building where congress was in session. They overpowered the capitol police and entered the capitol to try and disrupt congress. As Checkswrecks stated many had weapons like guns, knives, pipe bombs and moltov cocktails. I saw video of one guy with a handful of ty wrap handcuffs, you can guess what those were for. Reinforcements including the National Guard were called in and the police gained control of the building. 5 people were killed including a police officer that was beaten and bludgeoned with a fire extinguisher. The FBI and other law enforcement agencies are now looking for and arresting many of these perpetrators. Many of these terrorists had travelled from all over the country to participate in this "rally".

we all saw that .... but who were they really , antifa plants to stir them up . but in any case the individual is responsible for his actions . I can hear rants all day long and im not going to break the law . not yet anyway. there is something about a large group that can take on a life of its own , passions are running deep , and I believe those who broke the law will have to give an account for their actions . and they will.

Things are heating up and the country has double standards. Plain and simple.

You have one group that is all about exercising their rights by burning down buildings, torching cars, closing freeways, assaulting cops, burning American flags, etc, the list goes on. Never once was it called a riot. It's been called "peaceful protests". Everyone just stands back and lets them do destruction and mayhem.

Now you have another side of the country that is sick of the voting corruption and has great love for our flag and freedom. These citizens started off with chanting USA USA and waving the American flag. They were met with confrontation by crowds of Antifa and law enforcement and then all of the sudden called a riot.

BTW, I have been to DC. If you notice the cameras never once pan over to the Southeast side of the building very far. All that area is no better than skid row in Los Angeles. I had to go through that rat pit to store generators in the Navy Yard to prevent vandalizing and theft. My point is a lot of the problems came right out of that part of the city where the Antifa crowds live that began the confrontations.

Burn the American flag and you are patted on the back for a peaceful protest. Wave an American flag and complain about government corruption you are met with confrontation and violence. The main stream media was disgusting. Every other word out of their mouth and plastered on TV was RIOT RIOT RIOT!!! This was sickening to see.

This whole thing was blown out of proportion and nowhere near the destruction that happened everywhere else in this country. Sadly a young women was gunned down for no reason other than holding a flag.

Reporting the facts is not being biased. In the riots that occurred this past summer in Kenosha, Minneapolis and even Green Bay most of the people arrested were from outside of the area. They intentionally travelled to those cities just to raise hell. Most were right wing extremists. Just like the recent events in Washington DC. Why would these people bring guns, pipe bombs, moltov cocktails and hand cuffs to a political rally if they didn't plan on using them?

The political climate in this country is getting more toxic by the day. The 2 political parties used to be able to work out their differences through compromise...not anymore.

deep breath , aaaaaahhhh, better . bias is part oh who we are as human beings . bias shapes our lives . the car you drive , the motorcycle you ride . the color of your wife hair ( if you like blonds you go blond ) .... things that effect our bias is just simply life experiences good and bad .
read enough history and you will see that what's happening today has always been there ,like a volcano , most of the time dormant then big eruption . run and hide we are all going to die .
these are serious things that will effect all of our lives for good or bad , we will see . till then lets ride . or talk about riding . bias even affects our riding , some ride slow other fast. some take chances others no.
just read magic post , with respect magic that's your bias . we don't know who any one is in any of this , yet. rush to judgement time .
conservative people are not right wing extremest ,they are conservative . those people who burned down your cities are not right wing . they are terrorist , not one that I know of was arrested and tried for their crimes , if so we would know if they were left or right . kinda convenient left wing politicians let right wing terrorist burn down their cities and no one was arrested or tried for their crimes.
this is what is making people crazy , no one really knows who pulling the strings on this stuff , we think we know but do we .

Backpack on, breaking out windows and trying to climb in a window at congress with a bunch of nut jobs ain’t to smart. I don’t condone her being shot but I wasn’t there. I imagine a lot of crazy shit was being screamed through the window. Get a group and go to your local courthouse. Break out the windows and try to force your way in.

Reuters news is the international equivalent of CNN. Reuters fact checking is a crock of crap. Of course the FBI is going to say no indications of ANTIFA. I'm sure they are investigating it and the public does not have the "need to know" on what or who the FBI is targeting.

The most unbiased account of what happened is by watching a bunch of YouTube videos taken by private citizens cell phone. Not just one but dozens to get the real story on what happened. Only then can you draw an honest conclusion of what happened. Remember the mainstream media has its own agenda that is almost 100% fake and phony.

This whole thing amounted to a very small group of freaks that made it look bad for the rest of the peaceful protesters. Unlike what happened in Los Angeles when huge groups were marching onto freeways, burning the city, looting, etc...

I saw video after video of people marching and chanting USA USA and proudly holding the flag. This crap all started when they were confronted by whackos screaming in their face, snatching the flags, and baiting them. Of course the media wont show that. They just show the short clip at different angles of one window being broken, one person falling off the scaffolding, and other bits that amount to almost nothing.

Our current President and Commander In Chief is doing nothing more than what the law allows for the appeal process. Just because no other president has done this does not make it wrong.

Let's face it, there is a huge part of this country that cannot stand our Commander And Chief. Almost 100% of the mainstream media is in that group. So why would anyone watch and take as truth anything the media has to show or say.

We are going to find out at 1200 hrs January 20th who the president is going to be.

Wow! Thanks guys. I can see this is deep rooted and has been bubbling up for years. One question raised on UK media was when BLM held a demo at the Capitol, they were met by a wall of military that left no one in any doubt “you ain’t going in there”. But these Trump supporters seemed to be able to just walk straight in to what I would have thought was one of the closest guarded buildings on earth. How could that be? I suspect that if it had happened in London the SAS would have been sent in.

Matt you have a point about the Capital Hill police preparation differences between the BLM and Trump rallies but the answer is very simple. BLM and Antifa groups and the left have shown themselves to be extremely bad actors when they get together. They have caused America to endure billions of dollars in damage to government or personal property and disrupting many cities and lives. Nearly every state in our country has been terrorized and impacted by these "peaceful protesters". Conservative and Trump rallies on the other hand have a reputation for behaving well and leaving political rally sites in very good condition. I think the Capital Hill Police force were caught off guard by poor planning, preparation, and simply lulled by the typical non threatening behavior at Conservative and Trump rallies.

If you watched the news before election day, you seen how most cities had hardened their public buildings, businesses, and stores. They prepared for rioting, looting and burning in the event of a Trump win as they seen the behavior of the left after the 2016 election and expected it again. Because of a Biden win, we never seen any of those preparations used. Even though many Republican or conservative voters had no faith in the results of the election and had many reasons to believe they had been cheated, there was no rioting.

So why did things go so wrong Wednesday? I think it's been a combination of events and actions throughout the last four years that finally hit its culmination or flash point. Wednesday was when many finally understood the fact that all avenues of righting of an election that millions felt was stolen from them was not going to happen.

The scary part is it might not be over. Conservatives are being egged on since Wednesday by talk of impeachment, invoking the 25th amendment. We are also watching big tech censoring us and kicking our President off of Twitter, Facebook, Youtube. As conservatives attempt to move to more conservative friendly social media platforms we watched today as Apple and Google removing them from thier app stores. As the Conservative right keeps getting kicked around like this, things will likely get uglier.

Wow! Talk about going where angels fear to tread.....! I feel it was almost inevitable that something like this would happen. Trump’s targeted audience responded to his call and a shameful, chaotic event ensued. I have followed the events on BBC News channel and they have had a wide range of analysis and opinions from both sides, but there is little doubt in my mind that there was “an incitement to root”. Even NATO Secretary-General has spoken about it, an unprecedented step Which I have pasted below.

Many foreign leaders - and especially Washington's allies - will have watched the events this week on Capitol Hill with amazement and alarm.
Nato Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg was one of the first to respond, tweeting "shocking scenes in Washington DC. The outcome of this democratic election must be respected".
Who could ever have imagined such a comment, coming from the alliance's top official addressed to its leading member state? It is the sort of thing you would expect Mr Stoltenberg to be sending to a Belarus or a Venezuela.
The episode says much about Washington's standing in the world after four years of the Donald Trump presidency.

The incident has appealed to our modern sense of collective outrage and indignation - the media has fallen over itself to be more horrified and offended with each passing day. I’m saddened that the death of George Floyd (a known criminal) sparked a world wide movement, yet here the press didn’t bother to name Ashli Babbitt, an Air Force veteran. It seems that white womens’ lives don’t matter.

From where im sitting the only winners are China and Russia. More time spent fightng each other domestically in the States can only be good for them. And its pretty well documented how far they have both gone to distrupt the States through media accounts etc. If you want to make America great again you dont have time for this shit.
