I never visit the Guns thread. I’m not interested in guns but I am interested in the reasons for gun ownership. But I wasn’t allowed to ask questions there so now I ignore it.
Now Matt, tell the truth. You were active in thee gun thread. I answered your questions, even provided links. In a thread about showing a picture of your gun, all you wanted to do is discuss your opinion of why guns were/are evil.

Yeah we should have a poll about getting rid of the gun thread next
Again please be truthful. There was a poll about removing the gun thread. You just didn’t like the results.

“An "Internet troll" or "Forum Troll" is a person who posts outrageous message to bait people to answer. Trolls delight in sowing discord on the forums. A troll is someone who inspires flaming rhetoric, someone who is purposely provoking and pulling people into flaming discussion.”

Is this political? I don’t know.

LMAO Those were my exact same thoughts after reading many of the posts in this thread.

I'm not a fan of arguing about politics, but if it's contained in this thread and doesn't migrate elsewhere I think it's fine to keep it. It takes zero effort to ignore this thread. I disagree with a lot of people's political stances but would never hold that against them as a fellow rider or human being.

Thanks to the moderators for keeping it reigned in here, I know people get fired up and it can't be easy to maintain a sense of sanity!
Oh, get out and ride! That's why we're really here, I hope.

Again I'm really very baffled by those that voted to remove this thread but continue to post their views and opinions.

So I am genuinely curious and asking for honest replies. If you voted against this thread to remain, please tell me why you continue to open thread, read and post here?

Anyone who expresses a view contrary to one’s own risks being called a “troll”, although it’s lazy to just label people who express opposing views; a counter argument is more constructive.

Ok let’s be truthful. I don’t know anything about guns and have no experience of them. So I couldn’t really join in the conversation about performance or carrying them etc. What I was curious about was why you felt the need to have them. It has come at a terrible cost to your society but the strength of feeling for them is overwhelming. I better stop there or this will turn into the gun thread. By the way, it wasn’t until recently when someone on here showed me that I found out you could vote via Tapatalk

You cant compare America with other countries. They are reletively a very young country and it was only a few generations ago they moved to big cities from rural areas. Practically everyone had a gun in their house and habits take time to change may be they never will but i wouldnt try to get my head around it.

Masochism...? :D

On a more sober note. There are are those that, rightly, feel it is their place and should be allowed to keep it in the order to which the want it. And then there are those that, rightly, feel we all live on a tiny island called the world and we should all have a say on how to conduct activities.

The safe area is probably somewhere approximating the vanila area of the perineum and the safe word is "banana"....

Fair enough. The argument there is after quite a while you notice trolls are only posting controversial, argumentative, posts that divide members for their entertainment.

This is a motorcycle forum. What conservative posts has one posted that pertains to motorcycles and even more specifically the Yamaha Super Tenere?

That would work for an excuse, except it says poll in the thread title. You must realize that Americans value very deeply our Constitution and bill of rights.

You are not going to change anyone’s political views or convictions on a Motorcycle forum. Let’s face it most here are 50+ years old. We all have a long history that has made up our opinion and values. We come from diverse backgrounds.

If one is attacking something one holds very dear, it’s only natural to respond. Unfortunately trolls use this as a form of entertainment.

Why no answer? I was and am 100% serious. If you want this thread to go into the trash bin why continue to open it, read posts and comment?

Wouldn't the appropriate and better action be to just ignore the thread(s)? I do that with many threads that do not interest me. Why desire to restrict others that have interest in a thread and care to share/interact?

Why have any rules and moderators at all? Would it be prudent to have a Porn thread? Just don’t open it. How about an Abortion thread? A thread on Religion? The argument to just not open such threads is weak.

If you want to look at pornography there’s plenty of places to do so. If you want to be anti (insert religion here) there are plenty of places to do that.

But as a small community and forum, having threads, especially at a raw time in politics, is a bad choice.

I’ve had members state their reluctance to come to a Super Tenere rally because some troll wants to stir up “discussion” on a subject that doesn’t belong here.

We’ve had members leave and delete all their post history. More than once. Enough times to have to limit the time one can edit posts. Sad to see some of them leave. It erodes at the community.

You asked: My opinion.

I hope this is not taken the wrong way. In fact, I hope it is taken as a positive.

I used to love guns. In fact, I joined a club and started competitive shooting at the age of 16. A short while in I had to tell myself, "this is not for you and walk away". Walk away from something I was getting good at and loved.

I will not go into the details of the situation that caused my decision, suffice to say I was a squeeze away from shooting someone in the head. On realising what could have transpired I made the gun safe and walked without looking back. The shot would have been possibly lethal, the intent of the shot 100% innocent.

Until this day I dislike guns. You know the reasons automatically.

Now, to this forum. There is a gun post:
a) I read the preamble, took note of the guidelines and avoided it. No harm, no foul.
b) I saw a post in the last week that caused me to visit the gun post and, to my surprise, it was an eye-opener... I enjoyed it... However,
c) there was a vote as to whether to keep the post, but because I had read the preamble I had no vote (having said that, I would have voted to keep it - with moderation)

So, to the topic at hand. I held back on my vote and later voted because:
a) it is not my forum. There are many long term members who I respect and understand (but on occasion disagree with) that have built the site to what it is...a great site
b) I then decided I should have a say as everyone's view should be expressed
c) if the topic is not for you then do not get involved. I like that we have differences - I'm not in favour of certain things that happen as a result, but I hope that we are mature enough to place the differences to one side (including mine, if that's ok, as I am an opinionated wanker) and move forward.

So, get involved if that is your thing. Be nice. Give it a pass if it is not for you... now, or in the future....

That is odd. Gun lovers have a gun forum... There are plenty of them. Not that I am against the gun bits, but if the guns then, yes...to the Covid, politics, Yamaha Tenere and other adult threads...
Avoid clicking on the ones you dislike, yes?
