I stopped in our dealer's shop yesterday and they were finishing up a new floor model and I asked the tech if the O ring had been pinched and he said it was. I will take pics when they do mine in the near future. Even though it was pinched, there had been no leak.
Wow, am I glad mine was leaking when the dealer was performing the PDI...............it is all smooth sailing from here. My dealer was really on top of things!!

I am scheduled to go in this wednesday for the recall, but I have no leak at 9500 miles.

Update: Was able to reschedule for today, they got it done in 30 minutes plus gave me a couple gallons of gas. I ran it to the fuel warning, so only had 1 gallon or so, thought it would be easier for them to handle.

Got the recall phone call from the dealer today. No leakage in 5000 miles. The problem is I bought it 260 miles away in Boise and I have no interest in driving that distance in winter weather. Temps in the teens, ice, snow, no thanks. Told them I'll come by in the spring.

My dealer, Destination Cycles, called a few days ago to tell me about the recall and had me in and out of their shop in under an hour! The O ring looked fine and was not pinched.
Then today, I receive the recall letter from Yamaha. ::001::

I have my doubts how they Yamaha can be so exact in knowing where it started and when it ended. Do they add a few numbers to cover themselves-?
What I mean is my bike is just a few spots outside of the recall.
I see nor smell any leaks in 550 miles so far ...

Letter arrived today, and also coincidentally stopped by the dealer and asked them about the process. They said they've had the parts on order for a few weeks and will call the owners when the parts come in. They anticipate having the owners in and out in about an hour as well.

Do we have to rely on a dealer to do this fix or can owners do their own fix?

I guess a better way to ask this is will Yamaha provide owners the parts so we can fix it?

I think it against Yamaha policy, but some dealers may do it as a courtesy. The only way you can officially be in compliance with the TSB is to have the dealer do it.

The o-ring is probably a few bucks, so there is nothing stopping you from just buying the part and doing it yourself. I haven't seen the TSB but I don't think there is anything more to it than removing the tank, unbolting the fuel pump assembly, pulling the old (possibly pinched) o-ring out, and reassembling.

My dealer is mailing me the part so I can do it myself. They are 2 hours away. All he asked was that I mail him back the old o-ring because they are supposed to hold onto it for 90 days.

From looking at the instructions on the nhsta site, it looks like you can tell if it's pinched once you remove the ring holding the pump to the tank.. I'll do that and see if the o-ring is equally exposed all the way around and if so, button it all back up.

I just pulled my tank and took a look at my o-ring. It did not look pinched at all. So, I pulled it out to examine it and compare it to the replacement I purchased to see if there was any visible pinching damage.

'Pinching' doesn't quite mean what most of us are probably thinking in this case. Instead, there are some small tabs on the o-ring and when you install it those tabs need to push into the fuel pump housing, if they don't then they stick out above it. The groove is small and the tabs are too so when re-installing you need to just take time to make sure the tabs are flat and into the groove and not sticking up.

I can also see how you might have one pinched that may never leak, it's such a small part of the o-ring and I think you'd need a couple tabs out of the groove before it would leak - just guessing here, I have no experience.

Anyway, I reinstalled my old one and put gas in it, no leaking. I'll take a couple rides this week to make sure I didn't add any leaks.. LOL fingers crossed.

I have a copy of the tech bulletin . It is 9 pages long with pictures and shows dealer cost for O ring to be $8.84.

Went and had my perfectly good o-ring replaced today. Not a total loss as I got to meet Japako. He's not as bad as you all have been telling me ::005:: Had a good visit and talked about us Texas Tenere's maybe doing a hill country ride, (back on topic) with our newly installed o-rings. They were unloading an S-10 while I was leaving if anybodys in the market. It's at Burleson Power Sports, they're great people to do bussiness with.

Got my recall notice, the tech bulletin on the install procedure and replacement o-ring in the mail today.

I sent a pdf of the tech bulletin to Venture/Chris to post on the site, showing the procedure on how to replace the o-ring, and more importantly to check if the o-ring is installed correctly. Hopefully Chris will post it.

The dealer closest to me had the oring in stock so I took it in yesterday and they took care of it while I waited. The tech did not think it was bad but I don't like taking chances especially with a potential fuel leak.
