Was just on the National Safety Administrations Vehicle Safety website (www.safercar.gov). You can download three pdf files from Yamaha. One states that letters will be sent out regarding this recall on November 11th. Another show the VINs affected by the recall: XTZ12B are #2-#971 and XTZ12BC are #7-#106.

Hope that helps and that I'm not repeating information already listed her.
Thanks. So are these the last three numbers in the VIN-?
I have looked on the net for how to decode my VIN with none found.
Thanks,
DT

Yep, and that's pretty much all of us here.

My bike is presently at the dealer awaiting the new o ring which I am told will arrive this week. The bike was delivered only last week but the last three numbers are 893

That's within the range listed above and was most likely produced at the same time as all the PDP units.

And thanks for adding your location.....

Talked to dealer, he is allowing me to bring the tank only in to do this repair. He is 60 miles away and it is starting to snow on the pass to get there.

Some reason you don't want to take it to I-90?

Mark,
I don't really know why!!! I like dealing with the owner in Cle Elum and to give him the business. I don't mind I-90 for some odds and ends. I may use them when I get around to buying and installing the PCV and Dyno-tuning is needed. When I take the tank there, I will also carry both wheels with me to change to the Scouts I have in the garage.
Do you change your own tires? This is one area I am not comfortable with.

Thanks Tony for the heads up. If this O Ring is something that needs to be replaced every time you take the tank apart then it would be a good idea for Yamaha North America to stock up on these pieces in addition to what's required to service this specific recall. Just my 2 cents.

Rojer J, This Oring doesn't have to be replaced each time the tank is removed from the bike. The fuel pump stays in the tank for tank removal.

I ordered the o-ring, pretty common yamaha part. Will do the work myself. I don't have a dealer nearby and the hassle and expense to take the bike to/from a dealer is just not worth a $20 part when I can do it much faster and in my opinion, more careful since it's my bike.

Great idea. Thanks. This will help when not having to arrange transportion from adn to the dealership.

I take nothing in for recalls until I decide what is worthy of recalling. I've got 25 recall notices on my 93 E350 van and 10 or so on my 1997 F350 truck. I read what the flipping heck the recall is and decide whether the scale is weighted in my favor, or not meaning the recall will most likely result in a fix that was not necessary and most likely cause other side effects that I don't care to have. So I decide on the Fords I'm not going to make Ford pay for some pidly recall. I won't take the Tenere in either. I don't have a gas leak. I can tell that without recall.
Ron, so what you are saying here is that you don't rely on the nanny state lawyers to tell you what needs fixing on your vehicles? ::015::

No kidding!

I actually take mine in and let them do the work. I just time it around work that needs doing for maintenance, etc. so I don't have to pay for the portion of maintenance the recall goes in to. For example, I had a warranty related fix needed for the water pump gears on my F800GS that had gone bad but were still working. Since this required the cams, etc. to come out I time it around the time needed for a valve check. Guess what, no cost for a valve check since they had to do it as part of the warranty work anyway. I just had them add a line item on the RO to ensure my maintenance was reflected as complete. Recalls and warranty can be good sometimes.

I ordered the o-ring this week and it should be here tomorrow. I'll do the work myself over the holidays. I've reviewed the great instructions and pictures on the nhsta site and will report if I have any issues for anyone else where taking it to a dealer doesn't make sense logistically.

The pump mounting looks to be pretty similar to the pump mounting on my WR250R. I have had my WR pump in and out more than one time in more than one tank. From my experience I would bet that that if you don't have a leak the first time the tank is fueled you are probably never going to have a leak. I am in no hurry to do anything with mine. YMMV

Great point... and being in TX we've exposed the tanks to about as hot as they'll get so any possible pressure - even with the breather tubes - that is going to be occurring has already occurred.

I've got 6k on mine and not a drop from the tank/pump area. I may just hold.

I stopped in our dealer's shop yesterday and they were finishing up a new floor model and I asked the tech if the O ring had been pinched and he said it was. I will take pics when they do mine in the near future. Even though it was pinched, there had been no leak.
