Now your all getting things all out of whack! The comparison was to the RIGHT side only, saying that, a quarter turn spin X 4 takes max 30 seconds, as compared to taking the same panels off on the left. But it's all fun anyhow! A bad hour working on my bike is better than a good hour at work!

i think its all relevant since the left panel will probably hardly ever have to be removed and right panel has a bunch of stuff you may need to get at on a regular basis hence its easier to access ::008::

I can't believe anyone would complain about this. The right side comes off in about 30 seconds. The left side takes about twice that long. Boo hoo! ::002::

You don't have to flex anything, or work anything out from under any hooks, or slide things through flimsy plastic channels, or anything. The screws are all the same size allen heads and the two plastic rivets are easy once you know about pushing the centers to release them. There are a couple of peg-in-grommet things but they pop out with no scary prying or twisting, and when you put them back in you don't even have to look, they just slide into place. It's incredibly straightforward and looks like it will be robust over time. It's the easiest bodywork I have ever removed, and when I took the panels off I didn't even have a manual. Try pulling the side panels off a V-Strom, or a Honda NT, or even a 1992 TDM, and then see if you still want to cry about this one.

Now, as noted up thread, you do need to take the whole left side panel off as a unit, both the black part and the blue part come off as one piece. Don't try to disassemble it while it's attached to the bike. It makes sense that this could cause some angst, but once you know this, you don't need any other secret ninja tricks.

obviously, nobody is reading the damn post, cause that's what I was doing taking it all apart, completely , all the sections, and , I was not complaining, just noting. And I've pulled dozens of bike panels off in the last 40 years, including the ones you named. But IF you read the post it says AS COMPARED TO THE RIGHT SIDE!

it's a shame people are so critical, no it does not matter, who cares.

while Yamaha did a nice job on the right, I can't belive the same people designed the left side. I would hate to get into it on the road. Reminds me of my DL with 17 different sized bolts and those pesky little plastic rivets, the ones I lose in deep dark places.

Wow, somebody posts a few musing lines, only to be turned into an unsuspecting whipping boy. The seagulls come out in droves with full dissertations as to why a given panel on this bike is beyond reproach. "Mine, mine, mine...gimme a piece of him...mine"

::021:: ..and hate less ::26::

Yeah, I don't think you're an evil person, Clem. I have personally stepped in and intervened by recalling Vinny and Guido. Bet you never thought you'd stir things up like this, did you?

I was gonna point out what a pain in the @$$ it is to have to take off the SW Motech skid plate to change the oil filter but .... I don't think I will after all. I might get my pee pee whacked. Now that I think about it, I actually ENJOYED having to take that skid plate off. Oh, yeah. It was fun. And putting it back on was even better. It was almost as much fun as shovelling snow.

Speaking of snow ..... yep. All the local mountains have a nice white topping on them. Might go for my LAST RIDE OF THE SEASON today.

Don't like that 4 letter word? I took a nice 325 mile RTE yesterday to Leadville. Some nice autumn colors are starting in the high country. The SuperT felt good, except for the saddle which still sucks big time. I need money too for a new saddle....

Quick ride South! The riding here has only just begun! The roads are flat, but the weather is great.

Rod, I should have mine this week. I have been purposely holding back and it's been a long month on that foam. Then off to the v strom rally at Ironhorse, a little cool but the mountain roads and setting is second to none for riding on the East coast.

I know you've seen, heck you might even own those tires with studs in them. Those are made to help you get here. :)

I think I will need to use a piece of sheep skin to cover the saddle for my trip to Texas in 10 days. Even with the mod done to reduce the forward tilt, the saddle just plan sucks. Way too soft and the texture limits almost all movement. I fear that even with large amounts of GB powder, I will be hurting by the time I get back home.
