Have we bought tickets to the cheap seats?

Seems like the biggest point of contention is the seat. Most BMW riders change that out the first chance they get. I doubt they consider buying tickets to the cheap seats.

Personally, this bike is on par or better than bikes I have ridden in the past.... Oh, and a hell of a value.

I find the seat comfortable when my posture is correct. Unfortunately I am lazy.

In my case, I'm not fond of the gripper cover. Fortunately, this bike is so easy to ride standing up, that I make that transition when I can. I will most likely either change the cover material, or add a Bead Rider.

biggest difference is having ridden many many years on many different bikes in Europe and now over ten years here riders there don't seem to want to change out the stock seats on anything they seem happy with whatever they come with, i think a lot of guys here just wanna change things for the sake of it and there's nothing wrong with that but just admit you change stuff coz you want to not because the stuff you have is shite!

just tell yourself the seat is ok and you,ll be fine
Ah, so it appears I was incorrect in thinking that perhaps our arses were different than the Euro ones. Sounds like it is the other end that is different. We are more picky, er, I mean discriminating. ;D

I would say the same for Australians - would never have occurred to me or my mates to change seats... but since I've been here (about the same length of time as you) I've had the chance to FEEL the difference. One of the bikes I bought had a Corbin. Next bike was the V-Strom. Thirty minutes on a stock Vee seat and I knew I had to get another Corbin. Maybe I'm getting soft...

Perhaps we in America are more sophisticated than we thought, after all? ;)

I just got off a 700 mile ride and find the seat an all day great seat. I did the slant fix.

I'm not sure that will work for me, but I plan to give it a try. Simple, quick and reversible.

Does anyone really believe Yamaha painted the US bikes in a different shop? Or gave the factory guys different instructions to save money? We can quibble about the seat, electronics and what-not but I doubt if the paint was on the list to reduce the list price.
Yes, sounds a little far-fetched to me that Yamaha would be downgrading things like paint and seat foam. It appears they've decontented the electronics on the bike somewhat to meet a price point (immobilizer, flashers, etc.), but I don't think they've substituted cheaper materials in the construction.

Personally, I wish Yamaha had charged another $500 and given us the immobilzer, flashers, a knock sensor, an electric adjustable screen, an ABS switch, a BMW/powerlet compatible acc plug, a true outside air temp sensor, and a gear indicator. But I understand why they feel meeting a price point is more important than these features.

Every new vehicle I buy, I monitor the forums for people's issues, both before and after purchase. If there is anything that is absolutely universal is that regardless of the vehicle, there will be some folks who think the paint quality of the vehicle, the windshield's resistance to chips, the seating comfort, etc. is subpar compared to the competition. It's just par for the course. I think it is just inherent in human nature that on a new vehicle, we pay a lot more attention to minor irritants that later will not be noticed.

There was some talk about cost-cutting measures on the US bikes VS the rest of the world. Paint was mentioned, imobilizer another...
I'm not seeing any issues with the paint. In fact, I'm finding the overall fit and finish of the S10 to be exceptional. Of course, time will tell how well the paint holds up to weather, offroad use, etc.

The dash and cockpit area of my 2002 Goldwing looks cheap and flimsy by comparison....

I don't know if Yam changed things, but I certain could not have logged 4,500+ miles in two weeks on the stock seat. Had to use an Air Hawk to go more than an hour or two on the thing. The stock seat is not "broken in" or better after all those miles. Air Hawk is not a good solution, but it made the ride possible. Looking forward to someone starting to build a worthwhile aftermarket seat.

RE: flashers. Anybody know if it is possible to swap in Euro flasher relay or left side switch pod to add flashers? I would consider it if it were plug & play.

Compression Shorts? Wouldn't they raise your voice a few octaves? ::015::
Sorry, couldn't resist.
