Have we bought tickets to the cheap seats?

There was some talk about cost-cutting measures on the US bikes VS the rest of the world. Paint was mentioned, imobilizer another...

I'm wondering if we got cheap seats? We've not heard to many complaints from the rest of the world about the seat, but a painful butt been a fairly consistent theme since the US bikes were delivered. Some unkind person - not me! - said the seat was designed for svelte, Adonis-like European riders, and doesn't work for fat American butts. But that theory doesn't hold water, 'cos it also hurts this Aussie arse (which is merely ample).

It would be interesting to compare to the Euro and American seats to see if there was a difference (apart from the cover). If yam were looking to cut corners, the seat would be a good place to do it?

At the moment this is only a 2-hour seat for me. Given the bike has a range of 240 miles or more, and I sometimes want/need to ride tank-to-tank, it needs to be a 4 hour seat to work for me. Corbin's have worked for me on the last few bikes I've had - on the Strom and Concours I'm nearly as comfy at the end of the day as the beginning. Not quite so much on the Corbin on the KLR, but that's a different beast. Not seeing anything from them yet.

It is something to think about.. I can't say I'm happy with the seat, paint, and a few other things I can't remember. lol

But, and this is a big one, we did not pay what the people in Au and Eu paid.
So all said, I think I got a decent deal, and can fix the stuff I'm not happy with. jmho

Just to add, I'm really more pissed at the after market companies that did not get it right and still took my money... Argh..

i wasn't expecting much from this seat since my rear end has yet to meet a stock seat it likes. the seat would be a helluva lot better if it didn't have the tilt and the material allowed your butt to slide a bit. as it is, i'm leaned forward and the crotch is giving me a bad case of cameltoe. i start squirming pretty quickly. i wasn't planning on turning the tenere into my LD ride - that's what the ST13 is for, but i don't see any 1K days on this bike until the seat is resolved.

I've yet to hear anyone praise the stock seat on any brand of bike, so I think our's is on par.

With regard to the paint, I would have to see a Euro one and USA one side by side for comparison to see if there is any difference. I stared at a blue Euro one for 5 days when we had it in our showroom in January and from what I can recall, my Impact Blue looks the same.

I know that there are different part numbers for the Euro seats and our seats, but they have two tone and we have single color.

Yeah - I'm not complaining. For what we paid vs the rest of the world, everything's good! Was just wondering why the difference in reports about the seat from elsewhere.

I like the seat.

I can't see how they could save money on the seat. Does it actually cost any different to build a good or a poor one? I think most of the seat thing on moto's in general is personal seating preference.

I use the seat in the low mode, and it seems reasonably flat to me. When I stick my butt back for aggressive riding it has a slight forward lean that puts me into proper posture, e.g. rotates my hips slightly forward.

I like the deep firm gel padding. I like the relatively narrow front contour that allows me to get my feet down. Frankly, I just like the seat.

My paint is fine too, though I doubt it will stay that way, and I would have preferred a non-metallic tank.

I am a little bothered by some minor things, like the lack of emergency flashers, but generally I see this as a very solid bike with huge positives. I don't feel I am losing anything at all against my RT for street performance... yes I do lose some comfort with the electronic cruise control and electronically adjustable windshield (and would have done so with a GS as well)... but performance wise the bike is all there. Then I can go on dirt with it... :) I think the suspension is far superior to BMW stock suspension, the handling and weight distribution are superb. The electronics are superior.

I really hated BMW vario cases, the Yamaha's are at least light, even if the locks were designed by a control freak.

For me, on the whole, I'm thinking great bike so far and excellent value.

i envy folks who can ride a stock seat for long miles. i've had two wings and both seats turned into day-longs. i asked them to move me back 3 inches and up 1.5 inches. ahhhh... seat nirvana.

To me, the BMW800 is one of the worst out there. Rock hard, awkward shape, and super tall. Who thought that was a good idea???

Anyway, I ought to be near a French Yamaha dealer the week after next and will try to compare. I'm guessing they just got a different seat cover.

I should add that even though I have modified my seat and will eventually replace it, I still think it is the same seat as the Euro bikes, but with a different cover. I think the only difference is our arses are different. ;D

I don't buy that.. :D The whole time I was researching the bike, I never heard one person complain about the seat. That was another reason why I ordered. Now that it is in the States, many are complaining. I don't think our arses are that diffenent. ::025::

Jason.....I did the seat mod and put Beadrider beads on it and it is much better. I still would like a little less forward tilt. I haven't done any full day rides on it yet. That will be a better test, but 200 mi. on the original stock was painful, 200 mi. now is not.

I'm dissapointed in the stock seat as well. From all reports this was supposed to be an all day saddle. It's not. I'm squirming after a 100 miles and ready to get off after 150 miles. Yes I have done a 500+ mile day on the stocker and was in pain. The Russel Day Long is in my immediate future.

biggest difference is having ridden many many years on many different bikes in Europe and now over ten years here riders there don't seem to want to change out the stock seats on anything they seem happy with whatever they come with, i think a lot of guys here just wanna change things for the sake of it and there's nothing wrong with that but just admit you change stuff coz you want to not because the stuff you have is shite!

just tell yourself the seat is ok and you,ll be fine

My paint looks great. Does anyone really believe Yamaha painted the US bikes in a different shop? Or gave the factory guys different instructions to save money? We can quibble about the seat, electronics and what-not but I doubt if the paint was on the list to reduce the list price.

My sentiments exactly!
