I did not measure exactly, wasn't all that much. I had to buy a #25 pound bag, I still have most all of it. If most shotgun shells have 1 once or so how many will it take to go across? I guessing 30 ounces give or take.

Might want to try vibration gloves like loggers & construction guys wear.
Or lose the Death Grip on the bars.

Man, I read this thread and can't believe I'm riding the same bike. It was a little rough in the beginning but after a couple of thousand miles I can't belive how smoooooth the S10 is. Rear view mirrors crystal clear, no hand numbness/tingle.

I rode about 100 miles yesterday. I can say that the shot made a big difference! However I can't say that it totally eliminated the vibration, but it sure helped! I also bought a product called Go-Cruise, it is simple easy to use and helps. I have used Rockers and other throttle friction devices in the past (IMO) Co-Cruise is the best one yet. I'm going to put some more miles on it before I go any further. From what I've read on this topic it seems to smooth out some. More latter!

I have just passed 10000 km and after the service the bike changed character in a positive way, more pronounced feel of
power and the small hints of "buzz" now vanishing. It actually seems like the bike still getting better (smoother) with the miles.

I belive they sync the throttle bodies at the 10000 km service, that might has to do with the great feeling the bike now gives.

I used to be very annoyed by the vibes (at the 4000-4500 rpm band) some month ago, now it has solved, just to encourage :)

Update on vibes:

I just did the 600 mile service and still have huge vibes on the bars. If I am riding at most any rpm over 40 mph all the way to 70 or so and you put your left hand on top of the mirrors or the knuckle guards there is a super high frequency vibe. If you rest your fingers on the bar itself it is less noticeable but still there. I decided to discuss with the dealer at the first service and explained in detail what the symptoms are and that he was welcome to ride the bike for 200 miles if need be. Long story short- the dealer did the service, rode the bike 1.8 miles and said it feels like the other Teneres. Disappointing for sure as it didn't appear to be a solid effort in identifying if there is an issue with the bike. He told me to call Yamaha and discuss with them.

I did call Yamaha today and they were even less help. Flat out told me to not call them as this needs to go through the dealer and they will discuss with dealer IF there is an issue with the bike. She said she has NEVER heard of a complaint on the Tenere yet. The dealer made a note on the ticket as to what the issue is and that as compared to the floor bike there is no issue.

With that said, I don't believe there is an obvious issue like a loose bolt as I have gone through the bike and the dealer said they did. I have been doing more research into this and have come across the Vibranator device. I spoke to them today and they do not have there product made for this bike yet. I am discussing taking my bike to there shop and having them set this up. They put a device on the bike to measure the vibrations and design there product accordingly. The product is guaranteed and they were very happy to discuss the possibility of putting there product to work on my bike.

Has anyone got any thoughts on the Vibranator product? It sure seems like the answer to me. Hope this helps a bit. I love this bike and the possibilities it presents in terms of places to go ride.

Sorry to hear your bike has bad vibrations. I am going through the same with mine, so I would try the Vibranator.
I am trying to fix mine by changing the fueling. If nothing else, I'll have a cool hot rod.. ::025:: ::26::

Mark- No I have not. I tried to ride a floor model but no luck there. I am also wondering how a slip on exhaust and a Power Commander might help.

When I get mine done, I'll post and let you know. If it takes half of it out, that will be a winner. lol

Slip-on and PCV has a positive effect on the vibes, at least for me. It doesn't completly solve the problem but in combination with other small "tweaks"
it seems to be possible to get the bike smooth enough for very sensitive people like me.

This is my experience from my own bike though... The source seems to be some combustion inefficiency (the cold weather smoothness effect) but
the symptoms can be threated.

That's good news for sure. I live in Phoenix and will be riding in the warm weather at various times.I have spoken to a custom race shop / tuner here in Phoenix and he is a big fan of Arrow and is a Power Commander dealer. He also has his own dyno . I hope to do the Vibranator early next week when time allows.

Unless you specifically request the dealer sync the throttle bodies, I believe the 600 mile service is basically just an oil change.

But a TB sync should improve things noticeably. It made a world of difference on my old Ducati ST4s 996 L twin.

I'm not certain, but is it possible that too much oil in the crankcase can contribute some vibration? Maybe try adjusting the oil level up or down within spec.

My bike feels alot like my old Duc...it is smooth and the mirrors are clear...1000 miles so far...still running stock grips, but will change over to ProGrips when I install Symtec heaters.

Please post a new thread on the Vibranato review when you get it. Thanks

Who ever you spoke to was either ignorant or bull shitting you. PM me and I'll give you the name and number of the supervisor I've been working with.

Hey Jerry, I'm also in Phoenix, and I find the ST smoother than the FJR. I can feel the motor on mind, but the vibes feel more "secondary" to me. I have noticed a bit of vibration in the brake and clutch levers (I ride covering them 99.9% of the time), but nothing as buzzy as the FJR (which has never had a TB sync). If you want to try swapping bikes for a test, let me know.

Handlebar discomfort can be cause my many things including the rider, seating position, and riding terrain. The rider can grip too much if the seating position correct. If you ride a lot of downhill you can be pushed into the handlebars. I am experiencing all of these though I don't find the Super Tenere to be too buzzy and I came from a KLR.

Jerry, is the problem with your hands becoming numb while riding or can you actually feel excessive vibration in the handlebars? If it is numbness, check to see if your hands fit the bend of the handlbars. The handlebar should be parallel with your knuckles. I find my hands do not fit the handlebar bend and plan to change to a more flat handlebar to gain hand comfort. If it is vibration, try loosening your grip on the handlebars to see if this makes a difference. Lean back when you ride to remove some pressure from your hands.

I like all of the other suggestions and have used them in the past. The only suggestion I did not know was the 'too much oil in the crankcase' but that sounds reasonable and I am sure a few thousand riders will back that up. If you are changing the oil (and filter) make sure you remove BOTH drain plugs, give enough time to drain all the oil, add 3.6 quarts. .4 quart is 12.8 ounces. Get a clear container and mark it with a level of 12.8 ounces. Fill this container with oil from either the quart or gallon container and set it aside for future use (after three oil changes you will have 38.4 ounces of oil or 1.2 quarts). The remaining 3.6 quarts of oil goes in the engine. No overfill.
