You're going on what you know about the current FZ-07. Sure, they'll use the same motor, but it's unlikely it will be in the same state of tune as FZ-07.

I agree. Same as the Suzy SV650 and DL650 both using their V-twin. The feel is night and day different.

Would really like to see this prototype come in just like this, not some BS watered down version of it. Sure looks FUN !

They said that the prototype is 396 lbs. The video shows it WITHOUT a chain guard and other necessary trinkets, and includes some carbon pieces.

I would hope Yamaha would never fit a seat like that thing to anything but a motocross bike. Talk about torture to ride! We have guys here that complain on the 1200 Super Tenere seat! Good luck getting 25 miles out of that XT700 seat pictured without major pain. I was riding last Saturday, and a guy had a brand new Husky 701 on the road, and apparently it has a terrible seat. He never rode more that 1 mile without either standing for a while, hanging his legs out ect. This went on for 50 plus miles. Guys really want a seat like this?

The only thing that will make it from concept to actual bike is the motor, frame, maybe the swing arm.
Everything else will be geared more towards a true 50/50 light adv bike.

It's not a wr250r with a FZ07 motor.

I guess that's where my skepticism was stemming from....the seat. Great for playing in the dirt, standing up, but not for distances. A person would truly have to have an IRON BUTT to enjoy the seat.

I bet likely an FJ-09 based on the current Euro MT-07 Tracer for us this fall. A T7 will likely be a tough sale stateside in numbers justified to ship here.
We already have an FJ-09, why would they want to sell us another? Anyway, I do agree with the previous comments regarding price targets. Sales targets for "success"? I don't know how many that would be, and goals like that seem to fluctuate with the wind, phase of the moon, and orbit of galaxy within the constellation.

Something that does not get much air time, is the politics of these "toys". I noted the EPA has been giving the EU companies the bone lately, stalling approvals across many small and large EU manufacturers. For some known and unknown reasons, the EU imports have stalled. This will make market demand higher for the Japanese products, and I am absolutely certain they are willing to take advantage of it.

Lastly, the Japanese have once again taken the brunt of crippling storms and natural disasters. I do not know if, this year, this has affected Yamaha plants, but if yes, then it would behoove me to note how tough and resilient these people are. They continually amaze me in this regard, and make me want to wish to never have another war with them.

Enjoy your machines. We get clean air, and the EU gets more expensive beef. What a trade.

Everyone here seems to replace the seat anyway. The aftermarket will catch up.

Well ... We have the FZ-09/FJ-09/FZ-07. The FJ-07 would appeal to many.

The stock seat is always the first thing I fix on any of the bikes I have owned.

As much as I am intrigued about a baby Tenere, I still want the S10 for the shaft drive for gobbling highway miles.
The 700 might be an option for a 2nd bike in the future.

::026:: on that. Although I'll be pleased to see a new Yamaha around, it won't make me "downgrade" :) or I would've choose an Africa Twin when I decided on the S10 - Shaft drive and cruise control and cargo capacity and torque and so much bike ::001::

The 700 Tenere was just introduced at EICMa and it looks really good. It clearly is in production form. Unfortunately, it was introduced as a prototype, NOT as a machine they will produce this year. They intent is to ride it in various countries and take it to shows to generate reaction and interest, for the final changes to be built as a production bike. Here it is while Nick Sanders introduces the 2018 1200, which we've already had folks purchase.

I wasn't going to rush out to buy a 700 anyhow so, whatever...

the 1200 Raid Edition.. who cares. crap lights, crap skid plate, high screen and new panniers. oh ya.. BNG. ::) get a regular Super Tenere and kit it out better yourself. the (only?) good thing about the factory panniers was that they didn't have a big rack attached, but these appear to.

The XT700 looks good, but Yamaha needs to figure out how to get bikes to market quicker. It is just ridiculous that they are taking as long as they are.
