No other thread but I can add details here.
First the back story. A few years ago I rode to AK solo. Did the Dalton and the manly things before my wife flew to Anchorage to join me for the touristy things. Here is a quick video. Note the 4 year old boy at the beginning.

The video shows all the highlights of the trip except for this. Trip was about 12k and this happened 100 miles from home. I had to have my wife rent a trailer and come rescue me. The final drive failed. A little wobble and then it was gone. I was so lucky I was within reach of home. Had this happened on the Dalton or up in the Yukon it would have been a
major problem.
So, back to the boy. He is absolutely animal crazy. When he saw my pictures of bears, whales, fox, musk ox, moose, caribou etc... he decided he was going to AK and started to hound me about going. Sure, ok boy, I'll take you someday. ::025:: I said that thinking I would never hear about it again after a week or so. Well, he didn't let up. After years of talking about AK and spending his free time studying wolves and asking when we would go I decided I needed to step up and take him on a trip.
Ak wasn't an option but Yellowstone fit the bill so two years ago we loaded up and head West. I knew it would be a great trip but I also wanted him to understand the scale of riding to AK. I figured that learning that our Va. Beach>Yellowstone ride was only about 1/2 the distance to AK would settle him down a bit. It didn't.
Next summer we still couldn't manage AK but we did go on a nice ride. 4 Great Lakes and Michigan's UP and into Northern Minnesota to the International Wolf Center.
Another great trip. He was even more excited about going to AK and I am out of excuses.
I decided I was ready for a change and a big dual sport was going to be a better choice for the two up ride. I loved my Feej but my knees are feeling old. I loved my GS but it's failings and the failings of many others just like it crossed it off my list.
The FJR was rock solid so deciding on an S-10 was natural.
more about the bike later.....
