I've used this little Cortech magnetic tank bag for years, transferring it fro FZ1, to various sportbikes to my current VStrom.

Magnets aren't crazy strong like my Nelson-Rigg, but it's never been close to coming off. And even mild attention keeps any scratches from happening.

It's big enough to keep small essentials - water, sunscreen, cap, etc, but not so big to be annoying. My major gear storage goes out back.

It's so handy and I like it so much I haven't even thought about an upgrade. That says a lot, since I'm always looking for reasons to buy more MC stuff. Always.
+1
I've never liked tank bags but recently picked up this exact bag lightly used for only $40, so decided to give it a try on the Tenere. Perfect size IMO, doesn't get in the way when filling up and doesn't need to be moved, removed or unzipped, nada. That is the main reason I stayed away from tank bags previously. But still enough space inside to carry all my essentials plus some.

when the magnets fail at 120 and you're wandering down the highway picking up your stuff,
then you will realize the value of a tank lock system...

when you figure out the cost, effort and time required to polish out the scratches or repaint,
then you will realize the value of a tank lock system...

when I say I have been there and done that,
then you will know why I have a tank lock system.....
I've been using the same magnet mount Cortech tank bag for about 15 years and maybe 250,000 miles, on 4 different bikes. I've never once scratched any paint, or had the bag come off unless I was removing it. Just because some tank bags suck doesn't mean the entire concept is flawed. then again, the fastest bike I used it on was only a CBR1100XX for 60,000 miles, so I guess it's never been used under truly tryijng circumstances. :) Also, when I tour I load it stuffed full, and it's huge. I'd say nominal touring weight is at least 10 pounds.

Anyway, I was super happy to discover that this bag works great on the Tenere, even though this is the first time I've had a newer style angled tank to put it on. I thought about buying a new bag when I decided I needed a powered solution, then I saw the absurd money people ask for a bag that has a power lead and a box in it. So, I added an SAE purpose-built tank bag plug setup that I bought for about $20, adn bought a large project box at Radio Shack for $6, and some velcro, and Bob's your uncle, as the Brits say. I run the power right to the OEM lighter plug below the seat, and have a 3-way lighter splitter with 2 USB ports on it that came from Pep Boys ($8). I"ve got an Amplirider amp/mixer in the box with the splitter, and have the audio signal from the GPS/XM unit and my radar detector going to it, as well as a usb cable exiting the box to charge my phone. Then I just stuck the hook side of the Velcro to the bottom of the box, and it sticks to the bottom of the bag no problem. All looks finished, works great, and cost under $35 including all of the wiring.

$375 for a powered RKA bag? Completely ridiculous. It's a standard tank bag with $20 worth of electrical wiring and a flat piece of sheet metal. They make nice stuff, but that's highway robbery.

I was going to spring for a City bag but my old Cortech magnetic works fine. I don't use a tankbag much anymore with my tail trunk. The Cortech worked fine on my FZ1 and sems to fit the S10 better than I imagined.

I had the actual Yamaha Tenere bag on my first Tenere and liked it very much. Always seemed too big with the small pouch that attached to the rear of it, so I never used it.

Since then, I have got hooked on the Givi TankLock system and have used it on all my bikes over the last couple years - and now on my new Tenere.

Like my Givi bag with the cool snap ring, but the map pocket steams up anytime it rains even just a light rain, never had a map in there when it rained but if I did I'm sure the map would get ruined.

My givi has the overlap map pocket I always use. I noticed on recent trip to big bend that overnite if air was cool and moist, moisture would condense inside the overlap which I dried up before hitting road. If I covered it with the rain cover this didn't happen. Same thing with my seat, started covering that so there would be no condensation on it in the am. Have a good trip.

Givi tank ring thingy, second bike with it on.
I have 2 tank bags, a small semi rigid one that will take my wallet, phone, and a few odds and sods. As well as a much larger one that's used for longer trips.
Both have withstood torrential rain but only with the covers fitted.
Have tested the bigger one at speeds up to 120mph! But I did have the safety strap on for piece of mind (it goes round the head stock).
