I will admit that I'm curious about the electrified bags with the quick release rings. At the moment, I use an Amazon rechargeable USB battery inside the Wolfman to charge my electronics (I'm a wimp about the power port on the Tenere in the rain). I haven't been able to use it on the bike yet, but it will charge my iPhone, Sena, and GoPro from 0% to 100% battery twice over without a recharge. As a result, I'm not sure if I actually need the powered bag.
I too ran a Wolfman bag before I wanted the RKA InCharge bag.

I don't use the Tenere accessory stock power port at all. Wires are small just don't trust them with much power.
I wired an FZ1 fuse box and so run everything through it. It's cool because just by moving the fuse you can change a circuit between switched power and not switched.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful replies !!! I have used a few different magnetic bags in the past on different bikes and one thing I did learn there was there is a big difference in magnet strength, had an old Honda tankbags and the magnets in that bag made the other brands look pretty weak but that was more than 20 years ago. Found this magnetic bag on the Yamaha website https://www.shopyamaha.com/product/details/tank-bag?b=Street+Motorcycle&d=28%7C28&f=2013%7C65
Looks like this bag has flaps loaded with magnets kind of like another bag I used to own, the Honda bag I had didn't have those flaps but the magnets were way stronger and that bag never moved around like the one with flaps sometimes did. Still not sure if I will be going the magnetic route , those ring mount bags sound interesting but I will have to wait until I actually see one close up.

when the magnets fail at 120 and you're wandering down the highway picking up your stuff,
then you will realize the value of a tank lock system...

when you figure out the cost, effort and time required to polish out the scratches or repaint,
then you will realize the value of a tank lock system...

when I say I have been there and done that,
then you will know why I have a tank lock system.....

Lol sounds about right !!! But I've never had a tankbag fall off any bike. had the wing showing 126 on GPS but without a tankbag even if it would have a tankbag there's so much wind protection I can't imagine it flying off, I would probably never hit 100 on a Tenere, never seen one of those ring lock bags up close but I plan to be checking them out closeup before I buy anything. The magnetic tankbags do seem like they would cause paint scratches but I never experienced that with any of the tankbags , but then again I never had a dual purpose bike that runs in pretty dirty conditions .

I used my Wolfman magnetic bag on my VFR for about 17 years, 4 or 5 days a week commuting (except the month or so a year of rainy California weather, back when we used to get rain). I had no scratch problems at all. The tank looked like new when I sold that bike.

Yes I do use a tank bag. I use an RKA Communication tank bag. http://rka-luggage.com/A02%20Tankbags/2012%20INC/170YINC%20Build%20Sheet.html
I ran it on my 2012 and now on my 2014ES I quite enjoy it.

It's a great tankbag!

It's the 17 liter 3 point Tankbag.

Tell Richard and Kathy I said Hello!
::026::eek:n the RKA tank bags. I have 19 liter one and works great and has a nice size map pocket to stash my forest pass in for the MAN to view when parked. I use the bag to keep my notepad, extra gloves, ear buds, maps, flashlight and snacks.

I've had magnetic bags before, but after getting blasted by intense side winds in eastern Oregon on a couple rides and having to now hold the bag on also while riding that was the end for me.

I've used them since 1974 - the first one being a 36 liter Vetter tank bag that snapped to the inside of my Windjammer II fairing. Today, I have the Yamaha factory bag on my S-10 and it works just fine.

I use a Givi with the lock ring since I like the simplicity and ease of attachment. It is not waterproof (needs the cover) but the lock ring has never let me down off-road, even though the whole system feels kind of flimsy. I would get it again

I also have a Givi bag that locks onto the ring attached to the fuel tank cap. This bag is semi rigid and relatively small, but sufficient for everyday runs. I also have the Yamaha tank bag for the S10, which is much larger; I use this only when going on long trips.

I have a Givi tankbag with the locking ring, kinda impressed how nice the lock ring works. I didn't know it earlier but the tankbag was included in the purchase.

strap on tank bags a fairly secure but will scratch the paint.... magnetic are grab and go , easy to keep base clean so less damage to paint ,not as secure... tank ring bags don't scratch the paint and seem fairly secure ( have yet to try one ) but owners seem to love them... just ordered my third bag in 6 years , texas sun just kills them ... going with a strap on again , waterproof bag.... not a fan of rain covers, they blow around act like they might leave the bike at any time and are a distraction in riding... I love the usefulness of a tank bag and have yet to find one that really works the way I want it too.... it cant be that hard to build one that is fairly secure and water proof that has great and easy function , and that will last....

Yes mine requires a rain cover if it rains much, seems kinda foolish to make them like that, so far I'm quite impressed with how easy it is to use the snap ring

I've used this little Cortech magnetic tank bag for years, transferring it fro FZ1, to various sportbikes to my current VStrom.

Magnets aren't crazy strong like my Nelson-Rigg, but it's never been close to coming off. And even mild attention keeps any scratches from happening.

It's big enough to keep small essentials - water, sunscreen, cap, etc, but not so big to be annoying. My major gear storage goes out back.

It's so handy and I like it so much I haven't even thought about an upgrade. That says a lot, since I'm always looking for reasons to buy more MC stuff. Always.
