Dry river beds and rutted 2-track are about my limit on the Tenere, and that's 2-up with luggage. I have smaller displacement dual-sport bikes that are better suited to dirt due to having longer suspension, higher ground clearance, and lower weight. I usually ride one of them when dirt is the target and I'm solo, but they won't haul my preferred payload nor are they preferable for long-range adventures.
I continue to be impressed and a little surprised at how well the Super Tenere goes in the rough stuff. It has tractor-like qualities that propel it with more ease than expected and where you think it might not go. You still have to be mindful of the ground clearance limitation and the weight penalty. Sometimes I have to give it the leeway to go where it wants to go since I'm only an average-skill rider. For the most part, it's pretty forgiving when I can't keep it on the preferred line. Just remember to set traction control back to TC2 when you start up off pavement.
