I keep hearing the same statement, "All deliveries finished by November 30th"......So when will they begin? What was the original "Finished By" date?

Could bikes ordered back in Sept.'10 still possibly start showing up in July/Aug '11 (instead of the original May/June '11 time frame)? With the March '11 orders showing up in November?

Has anyone's dealer confirmed that none of the bikes slated for North America have even been built yet? According to their own news statements, production has been limited but, they have been building something up to this point. Perhaps filling orders for the European market?

You really are a great bunch of guys!!

I got the call from my dealer yesterday and I let him know I was in for the duration. After all, I've researched the bikes out on the market, I really haven't seen anything that would change my mind. The Tenere is still the bike I WANT. It would be silly to cancell my order now. (Really I'm too stubborn to switch now and have talked this bike up too much to change my mind) - :))

Hold the course I say!!

I have plenty to do to stay occupied until November.

Please keep posting the valuable information. I'll be checking in.

See ya. :)

Went by my dealer today, said he was waiting for me to come by so he could "tell me about it". Odd, had no problem picking up the phone to sell me the last 2 bikes. Told him I would wait.

As I said in an earlier email I did cancel my order...but I am thinking after they get all the problems
sorted out and back into good production (and in view of all the canceled orders) they will open
up for orders again anyway....I would order again for sure ... but I like "for sure" deals...price will
no doubt go up after this first run....

Those thinking about cancelation may want to add this to their math. With the dollar plunging against other currencies and inflation starting to show its ugly head, there is no way the bike will ever again be priced as well as when those PDP orders were placed.

I am staying in . After all ,it is a Yamaha.
Just picked up a new 2009 wr 450 today . Sold my 2001 wr 426 that is in great shape ,and I was realy hard on It. I dont have anything for the street , not good with the price of gas. Feel waiting is the right thing to do, Yamaha has earned my loyalty.

I went to a number of dealers today, BMW, Triumph and my dealer that I have the XT12 on order with. I am staying the course as I believe the XT is the bike I want.
I did however test ride the Tiger 800XC and it is a great bike. I felt very comfortable on it and the motor is a treat but I am still expecting more from the Tenere. If something happens and the Tenere does not come through, I do have the Tiger on my list as next in line.

Talked to my dealer, Larsons Cycle in Cambridge MN yesterday. He has had one cancellation, and none of his orders show delivery dates. All he has is "the letter" and it says complete by November.

It is going to take some time to get the mess in Japan sorted, and the power is far from coming back up to snuff. As much as I want the bike I guess if I take a walk in their shoes there's probably many more significant needs for the limited power available than building me a new bike.

I'm lucky, I have my FJR and the Monster has not sold yet. Those that sold theirs to prepare, I feel for ya. Hit Craigs list maybe and fetch up an older UJM to get by till your new Super Ten shows up.

Dave

Also ordered at Larsons, here's the funny part. last weekend I mentioned at our weekly sunday assembly point (the neighbors garage) as the snow on the road had not yet melted, on how the s10 was everything that I was looking for in a bike, if a bit heavy. casually mentioned that i should sell the wee strom now, as this small town is a bit notrious for slow selling bikes. besides, I can wait a month to ride my new, awesome bike if I had to. it will take that long to sell anyway. next day I get a call from a guy that was taking to one of my sunday coffee buddies, and could he come look at the bike. next day after work, he shows up and offers the asking price. I mention that the gps and trunk are not included, "how much more for them" he asks. I tell him, then he offers that amount. I am a bit scared that I will not have another chance to sell, so I accept. Called Chris @ Larsons, put my name on the list. the next day is when Yamaha mails out the November notice...no bike and here comes summer, sadness.
I would appreciate if everone did alot of posting since I am not cancelling and not riding apparently, either, so I will have alot of time this summer to visit and read up on all the great and odd things that get done with this bike.

Hey, guys. Been a member for about a month now, but this is my first post. Don't remember how I came across this site (probably Googled "best damn bike in the world"). Great site, glad I'm a member. The only thing I don't like are the occasional negative (sometimes biting) remarks between members. Usually, those are due to a misunderstanding of the original post (unfortunately, that happens in non face-to-face conversations). A very small few are due to someone just being a jerk - best to ignore them (maybe the moderator can remove those posts).

Initially, it annoyed me that Yamaha didn't inform us earlier of their production situation - I detest rumor because it can be so damaging. Now I believe the reason for their delay was due to them trying to get an honest assessment of their situation and ensure they continue to delivery a quality product. I feel bad now for being so self centered :(. I cannot fathom the suffering of those poor folks over there. I recommend cash donations through the Red Cross to help those in immediate need (my employer matched my contribution).

I have been without a bike for 16 long years. For the last five I've been searching for something I liked that was affordable. This too-long-without-a-bike gap has fortunately coincided with my personal situation being one where I can now afford an upper echelon bike. Like others in this forum, I know what I like when I see it and the Super Ténéré is it.

I sat on the Ténéré at the International Motorcycle Show in Greenville, SC back in March (couldn't make the Daytona visit where I could have test ridden it). I am 6'4" and the Ténéré fit me wonderfully! (My height has prevented me from getting bikes I would otherwise like.) The Beemer also fits me well, and I really like its bulkier look (and I think its styling is a tad better than the Ténéré's). Besides a $6000+ OTD difference between the two, the most noticeable is the very low CG on the Ténéré - I was able to steeply lean the bike and feel comfortably in control, not true for the Beemer - this becomes important for those occasions when you stop wrong, or misstep off the pegs.

The stay or bail: Once I have decided I want something, I usually become obsessed with getting it (unhealthy, really, as it can cause severe bruising as you bump into and trip over otherwise unseen obstacles). I was looking forward to resuming riding this summer, albeit a month late in the riding season (May versus April). Now I have to wait until November - a whole year after I put down my deposit (sporting a big smile while doing so, by the way). Been waffling since the rumors first surfaced about what I should do (still haven't gotten my letter, but was confirmed by a dealer yesterday). Get a used bike in the interim to get my riding legs back, or bail and get the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, or more practically, the Triumph Tiger 800 XC (not available until late June - will test ride next week - gorgeous bike!).

I would not be happy with the KLR650 (or any 650) because it's underpowered. I have my eye on a deep metallic red '08 ST1300, priced at $10,600 (dragged my feet and missed out on a beautiful Yamaha blue '06(?) FJR1300), but this would require me to bail on the Ténéré - not very appealing. If I traded it for the Ténéré in November (I have a feeling that's an optimistic date), I'd probably loose $2k, which would put the OTD cost of the Ténéré at ~$18k+ (after adding the required accessories) - now I'm only $3k+ below the Beemer. Or do I climb the walls this summer and stare with envy at those who pass by me each day on their bikes? When I get my letter (next week?), I'll visit my dealer and see if we can work something out.

Apologize for this long post - just wanted to say hi.

welcome strick9. Glad to have you around. I have been on the lookout for a interim bike. I just sold my 650 DL 1 week before the notice. I held onto it as long as I thought I could, waiting for the Tenere. Not sure what I will find, but another 650 like the Suzuki would do just fine. Not sure if I want another st1300, the weight is something to contend with, but it is one the list.

Well laddy's...I too am in this for the duration.
I, for one of many, cannot get my hands around what it must be like over in the Land of the Rising Sun.
And, for me, to think that my own desire to have a new Yammy sled strapped to my butt is more important
than to show some small bit of solidarity to these hearty folks in Japan...we, for the bailers, it does not compute.
I'm putting aside my petty desires and putting these people and their heritage and their country and their focus on recovery
ahead of everything. Getting them back on their feet will only help us as a country and as motorbikers...if that means a longer wait for me, then so be it.

I can only hope many of you are with me in this thinking.

Welcome strick9.

Agree with most everything you say in your post. I find most everyone here pleasant without the biting insults that mar other forums I've been on. I agree with you on Yamaha's communications as well. They just don't know and assessing the situation is difficult. Imagine entire towns gone! Poof! Who ya gonna call? There's no phone service, cell service, mail service, roads, buildings, etc and the folks who ran those shops may be dead, in a shelter or mourning the loss of their entire family ("Hey, sorry to bother you while you're burying your wife, son, daughter, and mother, but you think you'll still deliver that ST speedo on time?")

Send that dude my way see if he wants a sweet Ducati Monster!

I am going with my glass half full. Everything known is deliveries complete by end of November. Not a word about start of deliveries. I was in fairly early, hoping for the best. And hoping for the best for the folks in Japan. Long road ahead to get their infrastructure restored. And as soon as they get a grip on it, they'll get everything revved back up, very resourceful people.

Go find yourself a cheap, old used UJM from the mid 80's to ride until your new one comes. Should be able to dump it again for little loss. And if you get one needs a little work, and make it better you might even turn a buck or two.

Fast Blue (would have picked white had it been available). Raven looks great, but too hot for a Southern summer.

Glad to have you aboard. You're mirroring the thought processes that most of us have been experiencing. Nothing wrong with any decision, either way. There is no reason this should have to become a polarizing "You're either for us or agin us" Hatfield-McCoy deal, either with respect to the bike or to the situation in Japan.

You're situation is perfect for buying a used bike to ride for the summer. Coming back to the sport after 16-years, you're going to be a little rusty and there's a good chance you might have a tipover or two before you get your sea legs back. Why not suffer these slings and arrows with a pre-scuffed model? And if you've not been doing any riding in the interim, I strongly urge you to get some kind of recurrent training this summer - believe me, it wouldn't hurt to take the MSF beginner course again and make sure good habits are reinforced. When I was teaching, I probably had 100 students in your situation and not one ever came to me after the course and said that he didn't think it was worth his time.

- Mark
