Just received word from my dealer (Bay Area Yamaha in Coos Bay Oregon) that letters have gone out from Yamaha stating that delivery has been delayed until at least 1 Nov due to unforeseen problems with suppliers. Ron received a 3 page letter from Yamaha USA in Cypress, CA a few minutes ago.

I don't have a copy in hand but I should receive it in the next day or two. I believe everyone who has placed a order will get the letter. There is also a claim form to receive back your $500 if you no longer want the bike.

I am not surprised with the supplier issue after the devastation that has taken place in Japan. I will wait for my bike. My dealer said the other 5 folks who have XT1200's on order from him have told him the same.

I believe the bike is worth waiting for!

If true, my order stays in place. This is the only bike out there that has me tempted to switch from my Vee.

Don't quote me... I said "IF" true. I know nothing more than a few internet rumors so far.

But if white is available I'll also make the switch. That's pretty sharp looking.

I was looking on the Yamaha site and could not find any information about delivery via PDP program or anything else.

Fine, it is what it is. I'll just ride my other bikes. Good I didn't sell any of them!
I can wait, but if it really does get shoved off to November, I'm going to ask for a March or April delivery, as I'm not interested in storing a new bike right after I get it; that would be beyond silly.

It would be nice for us northern folk if we could defer delivery until next spring.

I agree, why waste the warranty time just sitting.

Northern folk, Hipshot? Oh, please ..... ;D But seriously, folks ... I agree. And I'm sure that will be the case. I plan to have my dealer hold the bike for me over the winter. Even get access to it at some point to install panniers, etc, so it's ready to ride come spring of 2012. I'm sure they will be most cooperative on this. Gives me a whole extra year to save the money, too.
For those of you who sold your only bike in anticipation of the Tenere, I truly sympathize with you. You have a decision to make. I'm staying put. I'm in for the long haul. I'll just have to stick to the pavement for this year. R

If the Nov. delivery date is true this is not a suprise as Japan is in bad shape. Honestly I think it will be amazing if we get the bikes this year. No matter what happens i'm in. I'm fortunate to have other bikes to ride.

Believe me, if it was coming from anyone else I would not believe it, but Ron is a straight, stand-up guy. If he says it, its gospel.

I'm hoping it's not as long as November, but it is what it is. Compared to what the Japanese are going thru, and the destruction on such a massive scale as to be incomprehensible to most of us, I'll be glad to wait.

I just wonder if it will really need headlights at night ::)

Based on this sentance in the letter, the early order numbers might be a little sooner:

"Based on the most recent production and supplier updates from Japan, we expect to finish
deliveries of Super Ténéré PDP orders by November 30, 2011."

If they intend to finish by Nov 30, the question is when will they start.

I'll be waiting for it. But since I sold my bike already and have none to ride during the summer I guess I need to buy an other bike to hold me over.

Hey I am in Japan for the next couple of weeks. I am in Osaka now and will be in Nagoya in the next couple of days. I then will be in Chiba. Does anyone know where the factory is located? If close I will run up and see what I can find out from this side of the pond. :lamp:
