RonH: I don't think there are too many people that use their bike (frequently, that is) bone stock. On the other hand, buying a bike and throwing out everything but the VIN plate and starting over is sort of silly. Somewhere in the middle is the place most live. Both of my recent Yamahas have different seats, since that's what seems to be lacking for me, and the WR250R has the most mods, primarily to make it more dirt worthy. The road bike has very few mods: seat, bar risers ('cause I'm a short guy) frame sliders (unused) and add on soft luggage. And probably something I've forgotten as well. Point is, unless you're the mythical size they make these bikes for, and I'm certainly not, you'll no doubt have to do something or suffer quietly. Nothing fits me. Good luck in your quest. However, think of this as it is: an enjoyable pastime. If it isn't that for you, you may want to consider looking for something else as a source of entertainment. Seriously: life isn't going to get longer so you can find happiness.

That said, there really is too much negativity forming here. Over on TT, we were blasted by a young guy that thought we were giving him the run around, when we were merely attempting to find out what he was asking. I finally told him to either become civil, or take his insulting, bullying ways elsewhere. We haven't heard back, so he probably did. I sincerely wish him success, but I am doubtful his methods will make him welcome anywhere. We may want to consider refraining from those tones here; we're all (mostly) over 30, supposedly mature, and we should be able to be civil.

Nice DR! A coworker had one and was quite pleased. About four years ago, I was at my local addiction parlor (Motorcycle shop) where they had a used one for sale. It had sat there for a while, but that saturday, a german woman came in and bought it, was loading it ( and I mean loading it, looked like one of those cartoon loads with stuff hanging everywhere) for her next leg to DC, BRP, south, across the west, etc. Have to hand it to her, big plans and a good start.

Regretably, I cancelled my S10 order and bought this little gem. The Tiger was on my short list right after the Tenere. Still plan to buy a Tenere if and when it gets to the US market. I'm betting they will be on dealer's floors as stock in the spring of 2012.

Thanks for all the well wishes guys. I have my heart set on the S10 no doubt about it. One thing is certain the delay will only make this bike more mysterious to the masses as word about it gets out. I could have given up and bought a brand new KTM 990 Adventure for a reasonable price from my Yamaha dealer. I said no to that offer. I stared at the specs for hours and said to myself no way that KTM is the standard of the Yamaha. All my riding buddies are amazed at my patience for waiting on a bike I have never seen in person or ever rode. I have been riding my whole life and have that so called gut feeling about certain machines and this one gives me that feeling. As for the DR its not money wasted I have always wanted one and for some reason love the simplicity of the thing. I'll use the hell out of it this summer. As soon as my parts get here I am hitting the road. With gas at $4 plus a gallon these days it will be used to get to and from work. I set cash aside for the S10 once I sold 2 other bikes I had so I am good just waiting on the call from Yamaha. I have not bought one thing for the S10 and I won't until I get it. By then the parts should be plentiful in the pipeline. Till then let's continue to talk positive stuff on the S10. I am certain its going to be a great bike.

I am really looking forward to when the Tenere gets here. In the mean time, it not getting here isn't going to put the slightest damper on riding fun for me this summer. Went for a 260 mile dual sport ride yesterday on my trusty old do it all KLR.

Over the next few weeks before it gets real hot in Texas, I am spending a long weekend in the Texas Hill Country with Linda on my ST1300, followed a week later by a week in North West Arkansas on my WR250R, home for week then taking the mighty KLR on a week long couple thousand mile ride that takes in the New Mexico portion of the Shadow of the Rockies trail and most of the Oklahoma portion of the TAT.

To cool off in July and finish off my vacation time for the year Linda are spending a week in Norway on a rented BMW.

Have a safe fun summer riding everyone!

I will be at the same event! I attend it every year. My 05 ST will have 86K on it when I get there.

Yeah, I've been to a few of Dave's "CheapSTOC" over the years. I try to make TexSTOC every year though.

We can kick tires and tell lies about everything from the ST1300 to our furure SuperT!!! Maybe even KLR's a bit as well!

I've ridden thru Pinnacle ridge tunnel on my bicycle when you couldn't see 5 feet in front of your face......it can move in quickly up there.....our favorite run is to park at Grassy Ridge Mine overlook and run up to Richland Balsam, then back! :)

............. Another reason why I'll wait is that if I bought another bike now I'd be kicking myself every time I saw a S10 on the highway. My KLR will do just fine until then. My # 2 choice would be a Tiger. 8)

I am staying in.

Talked to my dealer, Larsons Cycle in Cambridge MN yesterday. He has had one cancellation, and none of his orders show delivery dates. All he has is "the letter" and it says complete by November.

It is going to take some time to get the mess in Japan sorted, and the power is far from coming back up to snuff. As much as I want the bike I guess if I take a walk in their shoes there's probably many more significant needs for the limited power available than building me a new bike.

I'm lucky, I have my FJR and the Monster has not sold yet. Those that sold theirs to prepare, I feel for ya. Hit Craigs list maybe and fetch up an older UJM to get by till your new Super Ten shows up.

I just got the word that November is probably my delivery date, if not later. Now I'm attempting to find a way that the dealer doesn't get it before Feb-March, as I'm not interested in payments on a stored bike. If I have to, I have to, but would rather not.

It seems that Yamaha's suppliers are the hold up, not Yamaha.

Spoke to my dealer a few minutes ago. He's talked to most if not all of his 9 buyers and none have cancelled. The idea of cancelling because of an extra few weeks of delay is unthinkable to me. It may make selling my Vee a bit harder due to the time of year, but I can always sit on it again until next spring. We'll see. I'll just be happy when Yamaha is running at full swing again and can deliver my bike and the marketplace gets back to normal.

I had a long discussion with my dealer: It is difficulties with suppliers which is holding up the bike.

My dealer also sells watercraft and for that division, a number of component suppliers are in towns that no longer exist. The town is gone! The supplier buildings, gone! Employees and manufacturing machinery, gone! Workers homes, gone! Workers in shelters or, .....please forbid, gone!

I'm ok with the delay...when I put it in that context.
