Mine didn't have any vibration. And yes, I have the flash.
But I changed the basket anyways because of a silly challenge.

Ok, so the smoooooth it has now, reveals the vibration folks were talking about. Or put it another way, you don't know what you got till it's gone. :)

What vibration ???

I have avc's flash, but didnt really have vibrations before, except for the clutch rattling. Maybe I'm less sensitive to it than others.
I thought the whole point of the CB swap was to get rid of the vibrations, mainly between 3-4K rpm, that were numbing some people's hands.... You did it to get rid of a rattle?

So you're saying it's even smoother than it was after the flash?

My hands didn't go numb. My basket did vibrate, even after having the oem basket re-worked. It was better, but returned. The 14 basket just eliminated it altogether. Noticed the difference after the first startup after the new basket. No basket rattling and smooth acceleration through the 3-4 k range. Semantics between rattling and vibrations I guess.

Before I got my reflash my throttle hand would go numb due to vibrations in the 3-4K range. The flash cured that and I'm pretty happy with no hand numbing at all but I wouldn't mind if the bike was a little smoother at highway cruising speeds. Does the clutch basket smooth out the engine at higher revs, say around 5K?

I think it depends on what shape your original basket is in. On my around 10k miles bike, there is a slight increase in handlebar tingle at mid range rpms with the new basket. The new basket did reduce the increasing foot peg shake in the 3k rpm range. It's still a twin.

The new basket should not be a fix to cure all ailments (especially with the riders), but it's definitely a worthwhile upgrade to an already excellent bike. The 3-4 k rattle/vibrations to me were annoying. Coming of a Vstrom dl1000, I was pretty sensitive to it. When it got noticeably worse, I jumped on the band wagon here to find a solution. I don't know how long I would've kept the bike if this new basket didn't fix it, but now I have no reason to ditch it. ;D

I've got no complaints about the vibrations in the 3-4K range currently, maybe I should save my $300, at least till I have a chance to try a '14 so I can directly compare the two...

Finally installed the new basket this morning (been sitting in the box for a month). I never noticed the vibes @ ~3200. For me it was more 4k and up. Much smoother everywhere with the new basket. Well worth the investment (and I paid full price). Thanks for the great write-up, Koinz!

Also changed the engine and final drive oil, lubed the shifter, and cleaned 'er up a bit. Feels good to give the bike some love once in a while! ;D

Been complaining long time over vibes and spend way too much money and do not feel spending another AUD$800 or whatever it cost here with installation, might not get rid the vibe issue anyway. Got big problems after I was riding the big blue a lot in Feb this year and with physio, doctor, rest and more rest plus good nutrition my arm is finally better but after riding the big beast 4 days in a row to work arm is now worse so my conclusion is the vibes causing it. My other bikes are fine, might get rid of it next year which is a shame since it is a terrific bike in all other regards. I hope there will be a XTZ847 of the extremely nice & smooth MT-09 engine.

See if there's someone local to you that would allow you test drive an upgraded basket or take a 14 for a spin.

Just curious - what is everybody doing with their OLD clutch baskets? Trash, flower planter, ash tray, ...?? Mine is still sitting on the garage floor where I left it after taking if off the bike. Seems a shame to just toss it in the trash, but gotta do something with it.

Makes a good cymbal, albeit a bit heavy.

Went for a half hour ride the morning then brought her home, let her cool and slammed in the new 2014 basket. HOLY BALLS OF FLAMING MAGNIFICENCE! My bike is transformed. My 2012 with 43,000 KM on the odo had a very bad case of chudder... I even had my basket modded earlier this year which only partially helped for a little while. Now, my bike is totally transformed.

Seriously, Yamaha made a massive design change to the basket for a reason folks. It even has more mass than the previous model. It is not imagination... the original design is flawed and the new one eliminates all of the negative characteristics so well reported in this forum. Also - this is a very easy job with the exception being getting the main nut off which can be a challenge if you don't have an impact driver. For me, I just put the bike into 6th gear, stomped on the rear break applied elbow grease and viola - off she came... no impact driver or clutch basket holding tool required!

Anyway - all this is to say that I strongly endorse this upgrade and feel that the bike now performs the way it was meant to... Awesome!

I think I need a larger shop. ;)
I also think I am starting to feel a small shudder or vibration with all these 2012 clutch baskets stacking up on the shelves. :)
