I just replaced a set of these with K60's, plenty of life left in the front, but the rear was done for in the middle at 4500 miles. Not too bad considering the price.

Ok...After 10k+ miles on the stock battlewings, I finally got around to spooning on the new shoes. So far, the only thing I notice is that steering input is a little slower and heavier than with the battlewings and there is a slight vibration on decel below 20MPH...I'm going to play with the air pressure and see if that lightens up the steering a bit. If I can get 8K of of these tires I'll be happy. More updates to come.

Yea, at that price, AND if the design was just a bit more off-road worthy, the Heidenaus might be in jeopardy for me.
I'm a bit tire research weary right now. I want more dirt prowess than the K60, but need a real 4000 mile lifespan.
Is there such a tire?

Wish the 150 K60 could be purchased with the 140 tread block.

I'm a broken record. Sorry guys. ???

I have a 140 in the garage that my wife will probably never use. I was just planning on tossing it on the S10 eventually. I don't see any problem with doing so. If you want the 140 tread pattern and are ok with perhaps a little less tread life, go for it.

Good point Eric. So just for my unlearned understanding, if you have 2 identical tires, but one is a 140 and the other is a 150, what does the rider actually experience differently with the smaller tire?

I assume the smaller radius would give a quicker turn-in, which isn't the aim I have, but it wouldn't bother me much. And it would look a little funnier I guess. But i lost my vanity a loooong tome ago. So what else?

If it isn't anything more than that, I might actually get what I am asking for with the 140. A bit more dirt worthiness at the minor expense (to me) of a shortened life span. But still not the quick death of the Karoo and TKC.

I think I will give it a try. Thanks!

I was curious too if any tenere has had a 140 rear. I"m coming to the Colorado gathering and afterward plan on riding the Colorado BDR. The broken tread block would be a plus where i intend to go. I'd need a tread life of 5000 miles or so to make the trip. Its getting about time to be ordering. 90 days till Colorado still waiting on forks, need tires, just bought a Garmin Montana($), need to buy a spot device as i may be by myself on the BDR. I can see why the boat is going when i got my S10 it made the 5th bike in the garage today there is 2 and 1 is going to be sold. The tenere is staying !

So which one of us (3) is gonna be the guinea pig? :)

Tell ya what I really am going to do. I'm mounting a Big Block Kenda just to tear it up and say I did it. I'm gonna try to get 1000 miles out of it. Then I'm gonna give the 140 a try. I too am going to Colorado and I want to be done with my research before then. However, I'm gonna probably play it safe for the trip because I am 2-up and not likely gonna be 100% off road. The normal 150 Scout has been the perfect tire for that. (unless the 140 proves better)

If I was going solo in Colorado, I only had one mission. Mount DIRT teeth and go find Tabasco and get in his way. Block him, shunt him in a corner, whatever it took to put a scratch on that over engineered machine of his. That beast is worse than crack to me.

I dont ride much in the rain(the great south west)the times I have the shinko's did Okay, not great but okay. but really what should you expect from
a semi knob tire?
I ride like a insane maniac and get 4-5k miles out of the rear. but for $150-$160 for a pair who cares? ::026::
I too ride quite aggressively and have found that the wet weather traction is excellent on the 705 radials. I have been very happy with them and plan to put another read on when this one wears out, 5k and the front still looks quite new. Rear is just now showing some wear. I drag pegs on the pavement and ride pretty hard and fast on gravel and dirt. Hey and the price is right!

I sure can't claim to be an expert. I mean hey, I was running a car tire on the FJR for 75k or so. O:) I suspect that the actual difference you can feel is going to be very minor. I have not checked the specs to see what the over all diameter difference is, but there may be enough to alter the speedo slightly, but not enough to get worried about.

Seems like someone on ADV already is or has run a 140 K60 on either the S10 or a GS. IIRC, no issues to speak of.

I vote for Eric he already has one in the garage. Although he did give a disclaimer of running a car tire. Just kidding Eric. I looked up the ratings and speed and load ratings are the same. If i read the chart right the 140 is narrower and a tad taller. I should be talking to Jaxon soon I'll see if he has any 140s in stock. I don't care if they wear like the 150s i'd like to have some better traction. As long as i can get to Colorado and back. I need more than 3000 mile tire.

Greg what kind of mileage did you get out of the 140 k60 you ran? Have they changed the compound since then or just the tread? Sounds like you'll have a good ride in CA.

tell you the truth, I do not know, since I sold the tires with my old bike.
I did run a kenda big block before those, got a staggering 1500km out of the rear before it was done ???
I'll keep you posted on the ride/wear of the rear tire

A little less, 1600 kms is closer to 1000 miles.

I probably won't get a chance to try the 140 width until mid July. I have a set of PR3 Trails on now with only 5k, and will be returning to the K60 in the 150 width in June for the IBR. Not sure if I will need an intermediate tire between now and then, but might just use that 140 width K60 if I do, but likely won't wear it out.

ya pretty much 6mi=10km roughly, so really 900 miles.
terrible wear on that tire. Granted I wasn't easy on it, but that's bad.
as i said, i'll kepp all y'all posted on the new mitas.
Loading up tonight, heading out tomorrow.

Even after hearing all the short life reports on the Big Block, I still ordered one real cheap from a family member so I would have something to mount at my 24,000 service while I decide on my next tire. So now I just need the Big Block to last for a couple of weeks while a 140 K60 gets here.

Like I said, I'm not gonna try to get any life out of it. Gonna treat it like a red headed step sister and maybe set the record for the shortest life span. ;)

I'd say twisty asphault would be the shortest life but be careful. If i was mounting one I'd find some sand and mud and go to school. Enjoy it and of course abuse it!

I'm gonna put a 140 k60 on for Colorado. Half inch narrower, half inch taller which would raise the rear a quarter of an inch. I doubt i'll feel any difference.

I can't remember if the brand is the same but I had a set with the same tread pattern on my old KLR and they were terrible off road. The front tire had zero grip and would wash out from under you on sandy and gravel roads. Be careful off road. They did work well on the street.
