I always base my gas consumption on the first bar drop, this time it dropped at 83 miles!
Reserve popped on at 204 miles!! ::012::

Now I am seeing a change in MPG after Ac's flash and I have come to the conclusion it's due to no Engine breaking, it was eliminated.
If you think about if that breaking is going on even at acceleration it could be dragging down your motor all the time thus giving you poor gas mileage.

Umm? What? ???

I just woke up haven't had coffee yet .. ;D

Just throwing that theory out on the table..

My riding style stays the same mid to upper conservative and my gas mileage went up by about 5 to 10 mile according to what I am reading with the flash.
I have to fill it up today so I will see how much gas is left in the tank at fill up, trying to bring it close to 250 miles before I do that.

There are a number of threads about speedo and do accuracy. The first gen Teneres had speedos about 8-10% high and the do was fairly accurate. The new gen of Teneres have speedos within 1-2 mph.
My 2014 runs about 4-5 mph fast at 40 - 60 mph.

As for fuel consumption I reckon I'm averaging about 48-50 mpg, BUT have achieved 60+mpg when just running slow on Touring and in Eco Mode ....I alway reset the trip after each fill and then I know that approaching 200 miles she's due for a drink

I recently fitted an Akrapovic end pipe which has noticeably smoothed the bike out especially at 2000 4000 RPM

My 2014 model is always 5mph slower than my gps (which of course is correct ) and my 2011 model was exactly the same , i have not noticed any improvement in the 2014 clocks ..However i do think the 2014 av fuel gauge is more accurate. My 2011 was very optimistic. ..

Your 2011 fuel gauge was optimistic .. as in, you had less fuel than indicated?

My theory on what engine braking is, is different than your theory, that's all. ::001::

What is your theory?

I filled it up at 234 miles took under 5.20 gal, I am guessing I would have pulled 260+, maybe?

Right at 45mpg, awesome. 260 miles would have been fun with a liter of fuel in a saddlebag. What did your dash say you were getting?
My theory on engine braking is that it's the compression of the mostly empty spaces in the combustion chambers as you decelerate with the throttles closed that cause the feeling of engine braking, or decel. Me, I'd like a little more engine braking, I guess you could ramp up the advance to just short of pre-ignition to get more load on decel.
Anyway, under acceleration, friction and enertia are pretty much the biggies for slowing a motor down, no braking per-say. All the empty spaces are filled with a 14.7 to 1 ratio of air to fuel just waiting to go boom.

So filled up yesterday, on par with what I've been getting. 18.7 litres and 362km, or 19.05 km/l or 53.2 mpg (imperial), so at 4 litres left in the tank I think another 25 miles on the safe side.
I only use basic octane here (93) and average altitude of 460 meters. Mostly mixed riding T and S modes switching, high speed, hard acceleration to rambling up and down mountains.

That is a better theory.

Could be now that all the factory restricting programs have been dumped I am pulling a few extra miles out of the tank?
Highway speed 70 to 75 mph Dash is showing AVG 49 to 50 mpg, reserve hits at 204 miles now.
Before the flash it would show 39 to 45 mpg, reserve would pop on at 177 180 miles.

It dose not need much twist of the right hand to get it to move along now, in S mode if I wanted to and hit it from a dead stop I can feel it would easily pull the front end off the ground.
After over 30k on the bike I need to change my riding habits, it is like another bike now needing to use the front pads more. I am glad I have a new set of EBC's hanging on the wall.. ;)

I have to admit I miss a little engine break, but she sure is smooth in T mode on flat road S mode pulling up hills in the mountains is stunning.
I am running stock I can only imagine what it would do if it had unrestricted flow!

Now we will see how this changes next week (if Mr weather is forgiving) when I load it up with all my travel gear and hit the super slab, planing on Ouray 550 then Grand Junction I-70 to 128 to Moab. :-\

Ouray is a fun place to try to park a bike, the whole town is tilted. There's an MC friendly KOA a few miles north of town. You'll love 550. Wow, 128 looks like a blast. Gonna be able to catch any of the parks?

Been up 550 and Ouray over a dozen times, it's my go to for short trips.
I try to find a spot at the Amphitheater CG when I can, camp site 11 if it's ever open. :'(

I took my '14 on section 1 of the WABDR last Saturday and on about 110 miles of off road, it got 50.8 mpg. Not bad for putting it through hell!

Weather is SH*t this weekend in CO, taking next week off starting Tuesday!!
If I can get a unreserved site I am staying in Ouray and venture off a bit.

On my 2013 Super Tenere, I average about 45 MPG, although I rarely pay any attention to MPG, instead simply filling up when I need gas.

Because of this thread, today I paid attention. I filled up, and rode 197 miles. A little on the highway, a bit at a spirited pace, and a bit at a touring pace. 3.5 hours of riding, so averaged about 56 MPH in all. Filled up at the end of the ride, and put in 4.2 gallons. Even used the same pump to fill up both times to keep things as accurate as possible.

So ... 197 miles / 4.2 gallons = 47 MPG

WIND ...makes a lot of difference to the S10 mpg ..it has a massive frontal area , ive noticed when riding into a strong headwind the fuel consumption drops like a stone .
