Just completed a 4000 mile trip from the UK to Greece riding every type of road from motorways to badly surfaced Greek mountain roads at a variety of speeds, usually in Touring Mode. Computer is claiming a average of 53.4 miles per UK gallon for the trip.

My mileage computer consistently reads about 10% high. My calculated mileage is 50-52 mpg consistently. Seems to be getting better as I put miles on the bike; I'm approaching 5000 miles.

I just figure 40mpg and know I can reach 200 miles on 5 gallons. Lowest I've actually crunched numbers on was 36mpg, highest 47mpg. Totally different styles there. My computer average is always 10% or more optimistic. Your trip odometers should be about spot on mileage wise, it's the speedometer that reads off.

2012 with 10,500 and the bike says I am getting 54mpg I think I need to fill it all the way up and check it manually. I have only had the bike like 9 months bought it new leftover. 80 miles a day I would say 90% highway but I do get stuck in rush hour traffic a lot.

3 to 4 miles an hour under?
Every bike I have owned was around 2 to 3 Mph under, my Tenere with the big 21" in the front runs 4 Mph under.
After I reinstalled my ECU back from Ac gas went up to 51mpg at 70mph, we will see how it does when I load the bike up and hit the road within the next two weeks.
The flash is the next best investment besides the clutch basket on Pre 14 Tenere's.
Most bikes I had were 6-8 percent over. The tenere is only a couple miles an hour over at interstate speeds, but at low speeds it can be as much as 10mph. Had I not seen someone else post the same I would have thought I was crazy. ::025::

I had no difference in Mileage according to the Computer two up and loaded down. It is to note that I have lots of passes here so that would effect over people living in the Midwest or someplace flat.

Why would that be. In the old days the odometer was just so many turns of the speedo cable per mile and the speed was how fast the cable was turning. But they would both be off the same amount. The easiest way to know how far off the speedo was, when on the Interstate when the mile markers were 0 check the odometer. When you hit mile marker 100 what was your odometer. Difference was the percentage you were off, high or low.

On my Stratoliner both the speedo (as close as I can tell since it is a dial) and the odometer are off about the same from my Garmin GPS.

So how on the S10 do they separate the speedo from the odometer to get a different percentage error?

Don't know the specifics. One might be that they're both digital. Another is the law says the odo has to be right. Can't read high because it rips you off for warranty, can't read low because it rips off the buyer.

I spent last weekend following a KTM 690 for about 1500Kms Dirt, Rocks, hills, Sand and road, I was very surprised to find my fuel economy was about the same as the 690, I used a little less off road and a little more than him on the road, that's not bad for twice the Engine ::012::

I really never check the milage. I just fill it up when the gauge gets low. Regardless of whether it gets 14mpg or 99.3...you need gas! I will say that since they started selling high test , without ethanol, I did notice that the gauge does not drop as quickly.

When I manually calculate my fuel mileage it is about 2mpg lower than the dash calculation. A recent 900 mile trip riding two up my manual calculations were 49-52 mpg. I was in T mode and going fairly easy on the throttle with wife riding pillion. Usually get up to 90 miles before the first fuel bar drops off. At highway speeds my speedo is about 1.5-2 mph higher than my gps. I also noticed that after about 900 miles my total miles for my trip was about 12 miles higher than my gps. The higher mph vs gps seems to go along with the higher total miles vs gps.
Of course YMMV

My last fill up was yesterday at 264 miles and it took 5.39 gallons which equals 48.98 MPG.

This tank was mostly 2 lane roads at 55 to 65 MPH. Thats a little better than I normally average here in Kentucky but I can do much better when in Colorado and Wyoming the MPG will go up over 50 doing spirited riding in the mountains.

With stock Metz on a 2012 was getting 40-43 no matter what @ 10k miles. Now I fight to get 40 and hover at 38 mpg. Assuming US G's, Premium gas, I have a E07 Dakkar rear now though. Also, I reset the "Average MPG" each time I fill up. Not sure if anyone else does. Someone mentioned "Lifetime gallons" so that's probably a non reset.

Something I noticed.. at exactly 80 MPH, my average starts to drop. I think the injectors start pumping more gas at that speed. I can literally increase or decrease the "current" average by ridding 79 for a couple miles then twist a hair more at 80 to impact the other direction.

Someone mentioned the speedo being off. I'll search for a thread a on that. My GPS always is exactly 6 MPH slower than my speedo. The GPS speeds feel more accurate..

There's no doubt about it, your GPS is correct and your speedometer is wrong.

There are a number of threads about speedo and do accuracy. The first gen Teneres had speedos about 8-10% high and the do was fairly accurate. The new gen of Teneres have speedos within 1-2 mph.
