You may be right... I've got over 38,000 miles on mine, with the stock guards, and I've never snagged a pants leg either! ::001::

Happened to me...once. I usually have riding gear on and it is never an issue. The only time it happened I was wearing a pair of jeans. Just another lesson to wear proper gear I guess.

With my MX boots, very likely not an issue, because my jeans are inside the boot, and my riding pants are pretty snug around the outside of the boot.

With street boots, I suspect it's my Darien riding pant that catches, not my jeans, but I didn't dig into it very far, I just got the Alt Rider part.

Well, that's a good point...

Except that 99% of the time I'm on my Super Tenere my riding pants are jeans - Diamond Gusset "Defender" Kevlar-lined Motorcycle Riding Jeans to be exact - https://www.americangusset.com/defender_page

They're terrific, and treated with a bit of NikWax they're damn near waterproof. I wear 'em *OVER* my Gaerne Balance Oiled Trials boots (http://www.atomic-moto.com/Gaerne-Balance-Oiled-Boots_p_79.html), but thanks to the cool little velcro strap on the Diamond Gusset "Defender" jeans that allows you to cinch down the leg openings tightly around the boots there is no problem, ever, catching the jeans on any of the stock OEM Yamaha Super Tenere guards.

Just FYI...

Hey guys,

I wanted to provide a little insight on the Rear Brake M/C guard and the U-Joint Guard. Most of our parts go into a large hopper that vibrates and deburs all edges that are laser cut. We spend a lot of time on each piece figuring out exactly how much time is needed for that process, what size/type of media is put in the hopper and the magnitude of the vibrations. Each part is different based on the thickness and material.

However everyone has their own style of riding and their own way they sit on the bike. Some guys grip the bike with their knees and leave their feet far out, others use just their ankles to hold on (that's how Jimmy Lewis rides). That's why you'll find some variation in people catching/rubbing on our guards. If you guys have any other questions or issues give us a call at 206-922-3618, or an email at info@altrider.com and feel free to mention this forum in the subject line.

I have a inexpensive (cheap fix) for hanging your pants leg on the mastercylinder and u-joint guard. Mind you this is patented and you will need to send me $25 before using it, because I have and Uncle with the goverenment and he will know. His name is Sam. Anyway back to the fix. Drill a small hole at the highest point of the each guard, chanfer the hole, and then run a plastic tie through the hole and around the sub-frame brace and snug it down. Pant leg can't go behind it now. 8) ::024:: Today only special is half price. :D

Installed ALtrider Mastercylinder and Universal joint guards on the bike....looked great and really seemed to cover over all the area more comprehensively than the stock.
I took a 600 mile ride on Saturday. took my boots off and took a big chunk out of my left inside ankle area of my Sidi boots. The area adjacent to the new guards. Right boot was just shaved and worn.....Bottom line.....laser cut steel is great but someone at altrider needs to learn to sand their product. The edges on all the "cosmetic openings" are very sharp. They are going back with photos and a nasty letter. Buyer beware. ::009::

Ok, I know I'm new here but you have to be kidding me!! Almost every aftermarket metal piece I have ever purchased gets a touchup with a file. That's just common sense. Of course if it was mounted by someone other than yourself it's not your fault. But If you were the one that took it out of the package and bolted it up, then shame on you for blaming the company for not deburring it for you.

I swapped out the OEM pieces for the AltRider parts and have experience no problems. Checked it out tonight and there are no sharp edges, thought it to be a quality product.

The 2 Smartest solutions IMHO are
1) Tie Back the part ( i prefer wire )
2) wear real boots with your pant leg inside them.

This thread feels like one on the Orange Crush on AVD rider. Those KTM guys love to reinvent the wheel

While I love farkling, I'm po'.

I just vise/rubber hammered the original guard in a couple of spots. Now, I have an almost wrap. I had to repaint - no biggy as that's what I do.

Never had my pants catch before, but reading the thread about it scared me enough to do something. I haven't had to pick up this beast...yet. Don't really ever want to.
