Installed ALtrider Mastercylinder and Universal joint guards on the bike....looked great and really seemed to cover over all the area more comprehensively than the stock.
I took a 600 mile ride on Saturday. took my boots off and took a big chunk out of my left inside ankle area of my Sidi boots. The area adjacent to the new guards. Right boot was just shaved and worn.....Bottom line.....laser cut steel is great but someone at altrider needs to learn to sand their product. The edges on all the "cosmetic openings" are very sharp. They are going back with photos and a nasty letter. Buyer beware. ::009::

or a phone call with an amicable mindset would work...can't imagine they had it out for you.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Take some for your discussions with AltRider and share them with us so we can check our AltRider guards so we don't end up with the same issue. And thanks for the heads up. David

Sorry can´t provide pic, (probably cause I´m an idiot) but: had a friend weld on a piece of aluminum prolonging the orig ones.ca 10 cm upwards and a little broader, slightly bent inwards. Works perfectly, no more snugged trousers. Looks fine and at a very low cost...The original ones are really a lousy construction. Had a couple of falls , allmost from standing still because they caught my leg when I needed to put the foot down.. ::26::

Your right Karson.....cooler heads always prevail.....I actuallly was going to take the guards to the grinder and sand all the margins and have them repowder coated myself. I really like their stuff but was very shocked at the cuts in my boots.

Thanks for letting me vent..

Thanks for the heads up, I went out and checked mine. Left boot is marked up, right boot is not. Lines up perfectly with the slots on the alt rider shaft guard. I don't have the master cylinder guard. That area of my boot is some type of really hard plastic. If it was leather I suspect it would be shredded. Interestingly, my pure street boots are pristine. I suspect it's the width of the Forma's that cause the rubbing. I considered the OEM guard very dangerous, it was only a matter of time until I dropped because of it. In the first thousand miles I think I ended up with the OEM guard between my boot and pants at least five times. It was just a matter of time so I picked up the Alt Rider guard. For now, I'm just going to throw some duct team around the alt rider piece to save the boot.

The issue for me seems to be the three slots on the lower end of the guard:

And here's the marked up boot, I'd say 1500 miles on it. Zoom in for detail:

It's easy to get sucked down the rabbit hole of aftermarket bike jewelry when most of the time the OEM parts function just fine.... ::008::

For me, the Altrider shaft protector was not jewelry, but a critical safety fix given that the OEM part kept catching my pants.

I ordered the DSBP alternative. Anyone interested in a well maintained, downhill ridden only on Sunday Alt Rider shaft guard? ::015::

What is the sacrilege of which you speak??

Haha, most of the time I feel the same way. I'm waiting for the OEM guard to grab my pants. So far it has not!

Go for it. I'll delete it. Unless it's as bad as I figure it will be … then I'll leave it and enjoy the ridicule. Hey, a guy has to have some fun sometime.

It's OK, guys, me and old Camshaft go way back. There can't be respect without abuse. ::025:: ::025:: ::025:: Besides, he lives in Calgary … he's used to abuse. R

38,000 km, so far so good. Maybe we're doing something wrong. ;)

And let this be a lesson to all contemplating boot guards, foot pegs and other such novelties. ALWAYS TEST RIDE BAREFOOT. And all minor flaws will be revealed.

You may be right... I've got over 38,000 miles on mine, with the stock guards, and I've never snagged a pants leg either! ::001::
